The Technical Area – Liverpool’s Attacking Trio

Few could have predicted the distribution of points from Liverpool’s midfield with any confidence heading into Gameweek 1.

Some of us – unnerved by Philippe Coutinho’s absence through injury and rumours of his possible departure – even abstained altogether, writing off the investment as too much of a risk.

Yet those who gambled were rewarded with points. Goals from all three primary options in the Liverpool attack – Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino – during Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Watford confirmed the potency of the trio.

In this week’s Technical Area, we will be looking into the performance of each of these three players, analysing their goalscoring threat, positioning and chance creation potential. Though much can – and will – change as more data becomes available, here’s our breakdown of who impressed us most in the season’s opening Gameweek.

Isn't Zaha to a cheaper alternative waste of transfer? Maybe we should swallow the price drop and have 2 freebies next week. Carrol can play 1 week no? All the players as a possibility looks to me like below the value of free transfer.

    Anyone considering this strategy?

In the same boat, a straight swap to Ramsey could prove successful but may be as equally short sighted ...

Literally zero love for Mata. He's only £7m

He's good when he plays 🙂

Just a sample of players who blanked in the opening game of 2016-2017 season, all went on to have stellar seasons. Some essential to own.

    Kane
    Eriksen
    Alli
    Sanchez
    KDB
    Sigurdsson
    Zaha

I think we all need to relax a little, myself included and give the guys we initially picked a chance

He's been very poor versus Hoffenhiem tonight. Seems to lack clinical finishing and the control Mane has.

So mane for KdB? That would allow me to swap ake for Davies. I don't want to take a hit so (thinking about fixtures) what order would you rank the changes?

        Pogba-Miki
        KdB-Mane
        Ake-Davies

Yeah-I saw the hoffenheim game and he was poor. Would like a Liverpool attacker though, with their attacking potential

    Need help on this one:-

    FOSter
    Jones, Hegazi, Stones, Betrand
    Silva, Mhki, Salah
    Firmino, Lukaku (c), Jesus

    Elliot, Atsu, Brunt, Zanka

Thinking of making moves to bring in Kane or Erikson should I leave it?

Was that your team from last week?! Some points right there of it was, must be around the 110 mark?

you haven't balanced the midfield to allow for a move on a big 9.5+ midfielder. Maybe save the transfer.

Alberto Moreno is definitely the worst left back in the Premiere League. What on earth does Klopp see in him??

Zaha to Mooy a no brainer, or any better options 7 million or lower?

Why not Ritchie or Knockeart? They have so much better stats from championship and own set pieces too.

I dont know who started the Mooy thingy but his assist in GW1 is exactly the false bandwagon we need to avoid.
What we need to look at is who has the potential to score more points in the next 5 GWs and 3 key factors dictate that - player calibre, fixtures and set piece ownership (nice to have).
Atsu, Ritchie, Knockeart, Gross or even Arnatovic or Ayew.

Are BBC taunting me? They say Danilo is starting then say he isn't! Team now in real trouble with 4 non starters (JWP, Danilo, Fraiser, Hunemeir)

No Pep is taunting you, lineup just amended. Sane in place of Danilo
