The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 3 – Sunday

This was meant to be the day that would see talent from the north London clubs cause tremors in the Fantasy Premier League ranks and market place. Instead, both Spurs and Arsenal fell flat – to varying degrees of disaster.

Harry Kane had the opportunity to transform the Fantasy Football landscape. Not only could he have buried the August goal hoodoo, but he could also have delivered points for the 16.1% who captained him to capitalise on the failings of others – including Romelu Lukaku’s zero point score.

Once again he blanked. Once again the numbers he produced defied belief.

Kane had ten attempts on goal, seven from inside the box. For the second match running, he has surpassed his personal record for the number of shots in a single Premier League match without scoring.

This season Kane has fired just 25% of his efforts on target with a zero conversion rate. His rates for both in 2016/17 were 52% and 26% respectively.

According to certain statistical models, he should have 2.5 goals by now. But he hasn’t. He’s got nothing, and he’s being ushered out of FPL squads at a pace.

To compound matters, both Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata and Roberto Firmino of Liverpool provided goal and assist returns with maximum bonus to overtake Lukaku in the forward standings.

They provide an obvious exit route for those left feeling decidedly uneasy about Kane’s extraordinary three-match drought.

Dismissing talk of the August “curse”, there is perhaps another reason behind this sorry spell: maybe Spurs really are destined to struggle at Wembley.

We have just two “home” matches to go on – the first against the champions Chelsea, while it should also be noted that Spurs only edged out Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane last season.

However, there is building momentum behind the theory that Mauricio Pochettino’s men could lack intensity and that sides will raise their game on visiting Wembley.

With Swansea City and Bournemouth the next two opponents due to arrive, we will surely have more evidence soon. Falter against that pair, and our confidence in Kane and Spurs’ other key assets – Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli – will plummet.

While it’s a testing trip to Everton to come next, those forthcoming home fixtures, coupled with the unfeasible and record-breaking numbers – may convince many Kane owners to sit on their hands, even when faced with cheaper and more profitable temptations.

Spurs toiled, but their suffering pales in significance next to the cataclysmic display delivered by Arsenal at Anfield.

Like Kane, Alexis Sanchez had the opportunity to put Fantasy managers in a spin. Instead, he played a 60-minute role in a farcical Gunners performance which may actually transpire to be his last for the club.

It remains to be seen if Sanchez stays in the Premier League to be a factor in our season. For now, he played his part in making Liverpool’s attacking assets seem irresistible, as the aforementioned Firmino pulled the strings for both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to step up with further hauls.

It appears that there is still one thing we can all rely on as Fantasy managers: Liverpool will present us with the dilemma of putting many attacking eggs in a single basket.

With Kane – our most bankable scorer currently defying all odds to misfire – perhaps we should just embrace that “problem”.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ridiculous - I wouldn't say Tadic, Chic or Trip are concerns at all. A leader in many stats, 2 goals in 3, and great value option for top defensive side who may lose his place to a potentially incoming hothead.

Having said that, I wipdcarded a similar team last week. And got 15 points less than if I'd stuck

    -------- (Elliot)
    Jones Hegazi ------- (Mbemba, --------)

Which combo? (A bit concerned about Hegazi, Jones rotation...so hesitant about C)
Most answers I've gotten are tied between A and B, want some other opinions because I'm in the same boat.

Close between A and B but I think I like A. Would rather have double Soton defence than Swansea. Proven they can go multiple games in a row keeping CS - heightened by their great fixtures.

Yeah Bertrand is great but Cedric has been quite good too. He seems nailed also so shouldn't be a worry in that department and he can get down the wings to deliver some crosses so wouldn't be surprised if he sneaks an assist over the run of nice fixtures!

    Eriksen Debruyne Richarlison
    Lukaku Gabbiadini Jesus

    Elliot Mee Carroll Atsu

Will keep Jesus as after Liverpool, City have 2 nice fixtures against Palace and Watford.

Hello, I have several problems in this alignment. The highest score was 48 points on the GW2. I feel I should use the WildCard already.
                                     Courtois (Foster)
             Alonso, Kolasinac, Bellerin (Ake, Mariappa)
Willian, Jese, WardProwse, De Bruyne, (Loftus-Cheek)
                            Chicharito, Kane, Benteke

Feeling lost. Last week did Salah --> Ramsey in order to fund Jesus --> Lukaku and that backfired horribly. I didn't want to lose Salah, but I was scared of the Lukaku train and was hoping he'd be quiet against Arsenal and then Man City next week.

    1 FT, 0.9 ITB

    Foster / Elliot
    Jones / Cedric / Stephens / Suttner / Rosenior
    Alli / Mkhi / Ramsey / Willian / Carroll
    Kane / Lukaku / Gabbiadini

Any ideas? Salah seems essential and will rise soon, and one of Ramsey or Willian should go for him. Was thinking Gabbi--> under 6.0 striker. Joselu seems the best but Gayle will be back and threaten his place. Swansea and WBA barely attack so I don't think JRod and Abraham and good options. I'd love to just get Richarlison for one for them but since I have 0.9 not 1.0 that can't be done either

Hey all. I really like the look of my team but had a pretty dreadful GW... don't think I need to WC but definitely a few problems here...

    Foster (Elliot)

Alonso, Trippier, Mee (Alexander-Arnold, B. Smith)

De Bruyne, Eriksen, Pogba, Ramsey (RLC)

    Lukaku, Firmino, Chicharito

Knee jerked PvA to Trippier before the useless being went down in price...

I love De Bruyne and tempted to hold but how long can one ride this patch of blanks!?

It's exactly what I am considering on FT Fixtures are ok if you take it that they will beat the out of sorts ARS and City at home.
      Thats my thinking right now.

Morata involved in 66 percent of goals so far and previous record is tasty. At .5 less than Hazard and Hazard return can only help him you would think.

Done with City assests who says it's not Jesus warming the bench in GW4 or 5 or both.

yeh plus Morata just generally seems to be involved much higher up the pitch. jesus can be super deep depending on weather they play 2 uptop and a rotation risk.
started the season thinking Jesus would be legit captain option but never would i give it to him now

Tough call but yes Firmino is an animal. Him, Mane and Salah are working together seamlessly and I'm sure he will continue to be in the points for many weeks to come.
On the other hand Soton have some great fixtures coming up and Gabbs has shown he can be deadly when on form.

      I would get Firmino.

You've also got Kolasinac in there that could pose a problem. Wenger seems to have lost the plot. With Arsenal looking awful and him not being nailed that could be worth the transfer instead. > Jones or Trippier potentially.

Courtois Milner Surman & Gayle need to go.

      Foster for Courtois
either Jones or Cedric for Milner
      Ritchie or Atsu for Surman
Abraham or Chicorito or J. Rod for Gayle

      good luck

    How am I looking?

    Foster (Elliot)
Davies / Jones / Cedric (Hegazi, Mbemba)
Erik / Mane / Pog / TC (RLC)
    Kane / Lukaku / Chich

I'd play Hegazi over TC, but good side.

great team to have lukaku and Kane " in had to choose 100m budget"

one more thing mate" you need one of liverpool trio either salah/firmihno/mane

But how wIll you smuggle on in " go for Firmihno he is the cheapest " he knows how to get bonus points event with one assist
