The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 3 – Sunday

This was meant to be the day that would see talent from the north London clubs cause tremors in the Fantasy Premier League ranks and market place. Instead, both Spurs and Arsenal fell flat – to varying degrees of disaster.

Harry Kane had the opportunity to transform the Fantasy Football landscape. Not only could he have buried the August goal hoodoo, but he could also have delivered points for the 16.1% who captained him to capitalise on the failings of others – including Romelu Lukaku’s zero point score.

Once again he blanked. Once again the numbers he produced defied belief.

Kane had ten attempts on goal, seven from inside the box. For the second match running, he has surpassed his personal record for the number of shots in a single Premier League match without scoring.

This season Kane has fired just 25% of his efforts on target with a zero conversion rate. His rates for both in 2016/17 were 52% and 26% respectively.

According to certain statistical models, he should have 2.5 goals by now. But he hasn’t. He’s got nothing, and he’s being ushered out of FPL squads at a pace.

To compound matters, both Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata and Roberto Firmino of Liverpool provided goal and assist returns with maximum bonus to overtake Lukaku in the forward standings.

They provide an obvious exit route for those left feeling decidedly uneasy about Kane’s extraordinary three-match drought.

Dismissing talk of the August “curse”, there is perhaps another reason behind this sorry spell: maybe Spurs really are destined to struggle at Wembley.

We have just two “home” matches to go on – the first against the champions Chelsea, while it should also be noted that Spurs only edged out Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane last season.

However, there is building momentum behind the theory that Mauricio Pochettino’s men could lack intensity and that sides will raise their game on visiting Wembley.

With Swansea City and Bournemouth the next two opponents due to arrive, we will surely have more evidence soon. Falter against that pair, and our confidence in Kane and Spurs’ other key assets – Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli – will plummet.

While it’s a testing trip to Everton to come next, those forthcoming home fixtures, coupled with the unfeasible and record-breaking numbers – may convince many Kane owners to sit on their hands, even when faced with cheaper and more profitable temptations.

Spurs toiled, but their suffering pales in significance next to the cataclysmic display delivered by Arsenal at Anfield.

Like Kane, Alexis Sanchez had the opportunity to put Fantasy managers in a spin. Instead, he played a 60-minute role in a farcical Gunners performance which may actually transpire to be his last for the club.

It remains to be seen if Sanchez stays in the Premier League to be a factor in our season. For now, he played his part in making Liverpool’s attacking assets seem irresistible, as the aforementioned Firmino pulled the strings for both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to step up with further hauls.

It appears that there is still one thing we can all rely on as Fantasy managers: Liverpool will present us with the dilemma of putting many attacking eggs in a single basket.

With Kane – our most bankable scorer currently defying all odds to misfire – perhaps we should just embrace that “problem”.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

KDB to Mane seems obvious to me - you need pool attack.

Your are going to have to monitor Jones injury and if Stephens is still nailed and same for Willian.

Suttner could still be a good pick nice fixturesin the short term.

This is a cracking side. No need for any transfers in attack this week. I'd either upgrade Francis to a 5.0 or Speroni to a 4.5m with the 1FT and roll the other. Actually, you should make the keeper transfer.

Do I wildcard this team? There are things I want to fix (Redmond, Gabby, Stones are the primary ones with Stephens if he loses his place) but willing to hold. Just had my first terrible gameweek is all so highly likely kneejerk reaction. Would like Liverpool coverage. 2.0m ITB

Luxury trades include switching Carroll to another budget mid, Stephens to Cedric and Mee to Huddersfield Def

    Foster, Elliott
    Stephens, Stones, Jones, Suttner, Mee
    Redmond, Mhiky, Eriksen, Mooy, Carroll
    Lukaku, Kane Gabby

The rule is simple: Confirm the starting XI of next week, then see how many players you would like to change, if only 2-3, then no WCs required, otherwise go for it.

From what I can see, Gabbi-Redmond-Stones are the main issues.

You can either do Gabbi to Firmino or Gabbi-Redmond to Ayew/Tammy-Salah/Mane

Suggestions on what to do with Abraham? I will start him if I keep him since Newcastle at home is a good fixture. Finally got his first PL goal after missing a great opportunity in each of his first two games, so that's good for his confidence.

Unfortunately, Llorente should be back after the break, unless he goes to Chelsea, and Swansea are rumored to be buying back Bony from City. At least one of Ayew or Abraham will probably be dropped for Llorente/Bony

Kind of regret getting Eriksen in for KDB before the price fall. Not because I don't trust the Dane but there might be better options like Mane, Alli or cheaper 6-7 m-priced players. No FT and 0.4 itb. Will try not to take a hit. Keeping Britos for a week.
Who should I look to replace in the near future? Willian? Who do I aim to have? Silva, Morata?

    Foster*
    Bertrand*, Suttner, Daniels
    Eriksen*, Pogba*, Willian, Ince
    Lukaku*, Firmino*, Kane*

    Subs: Elliot*, Carroll*, Britos, Long

Read the rules. I think having the advantage of a WC and then 2 transfers afterwards is seen as too much of an advantage.
If you have 2FT you could just take - 4 for 3 changes and still have the WC intact.

I'd play the bench Carrol and Suttner could be good options this week. I need to play one and can't decide which one.

It's all very short term thinking, they want last weeks points.

0.5m is just very little in the context over a season. The season where i m in top 5k my team value is less than 105 after the end of season.

      It's very good.
Could you save .5 on Forster (avoid Saints double up) and Cahill could be a 5.5 and upgrade Schindler to another 5.5
Gives defence more balance and avoids your 11th player being Huddersfield when they have a bad fixture.

Thanks for the input... Will have a close watch in Cahill's price drop...and saints fix are too good...don't u think so??

I think you're fine playing daniels this week. Playing as a wingback he has good chance of attacking returns against that leaky Arsenal defence..

I noticed they play CBs with WBs. He should have attacking returns. But low CS potential in generally. Would not include when I use my WC.

ManCity looks like the perfect opponent for Salah, but Salah seriously needs to improve his finishing XD
How often did he have multi-goal games for Roma?

Lost confidence to pick a 4.5 defender having got Britos. I couldn't have made a worse choice. Now, who should be the replacement? Thanks!!
    Foster, Elliot
    Bertrand, Daniels, Suttner, Britos, Long
