Dugout Discussion – Gameweek 4 – Saturday

Events continue with a slate of five three o’clock kick-offs which – for once – feature the big sides and some major Fantasy talent.

Three of the top four captains are on show this afternoon.

Harry Kane heads into a trip to Goodison Park backed as the captain by 537,000 (11.6%) having blanked in his opening three Gameweeks, returning just four points.

The Spurs striker has been sold by 192,000+ ahead of today’s deadline – second only to Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne who has just returned two assists to punish the naysayers; the scene is set for Kane to follow suit.

Elsewhere Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette earns a recall to Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up to face Bournemouth. He was sold by 136,000+ ahead of today’s clash but has been captained by 233,000, some 34% of his overall ownership.

Alvaro Morata is the other big asset in action.

He was acquired by 345,000+ prior to today’s deadline and claims over 213,000 armbands for Chelsea’s meeting with Leicester City.

Elsewhere, Ahmed Hegazi retains his start for West Brom at Brighton, despite Jonny Evans’ recall to the Baggies’ XI. The Egyptian was bought by 237,000+ ahead of Gameweek 4 and has been snapped up by over a million managers this season – more than any other player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

City in a nutshell so far this season. Full of disappointments because of rotation and lack of returns, until people get pissed off and sell their coverage, that's when the whole team decides to explode. Benched players causing diasppointments then coming on and scoring, regulars playing different roles causing them to blank, main strikers scoring, blanking, being rotated and getting hauls again and on derby day bashing with 5 goals the only assured starter with constant returns decides to be the only player uninvolved.

Disagree. Brighton played camped in their own half against them. They went down to ten men against Everton, meaning KdB played even deeper and Jesús was hauled off.

Patience is a virtue most fantasy managers do not have. Jesús was actually fantastic in the last game in which he scored. Kun has also looked dangerous and had one goal (I think).

The herd will see the results and think 'sell'. The better managers know better.

      1. Pariße
        • 9 Years

None of them is an ideal pick is what I'm saying. Guardiola will keep rotating, even more when CL starts.

          6 years, 7 months ago

I can see that, yeah. Jesus and KdB seem solid enough for 9/10 games, Jesús often coming off 15 or 20 minutes early.

Today's Man City destruction of Liverpool os a perfect example of why the bonus points system needs to be amended.

De Bruyne was by far and away the man of the match. Yet he doesn't even feature in the three bonus points positions. Jesús is number one, of course because of the weight attributed to striker goals. Sané though is number two. While he scored two quality goals, it was towards the end of the game. His goals came at a point when Liverpool had given up.

I understand that it can be difficult to include some sort of system where importance of goals scored or importance of assists made or even quality of assist etc, but surely it is necessary. It's got to the point where it's a bit ridiculous to see how a player who totally dominates a game doesn't come near the bonus points.

    Disclaimer: I have KdB 😀

Yeah, I'd probably tweek the formula some if I was grand poobah, but it's not really a huge deal. At least it's predictable.

        • 6 Years
        6 years, 7 months ago

Transparency isn't in question. Don't know where you got that from. No one is being criticised. It is clearly a very difficult system to execute, but I'm sure FPL don't need the finances to address this discrepancy.

          • 8 Years

But you were saying KdB was man of the match but didn't get a bonus, Sane only played for a short time ... came over as bit of a moan and that you thought it was unfair or something. Bonus points are added for set achievements, it is just the way it is and neither fair or not, just a system to be played and maximised against

The BAPS, save Game Winning Goal, definitely lack any kind of real-game context. That could be adjusted, but would complicate the system.

      1. El Lobito 10
        • 6 Years
        6 years, 7 months ago

A complex system is needed. When MOTM so consistently gets overlooked, it's a problem. It works the other way too, where a player has a joke of a game and somehow gets in the bonus.

        1. Hotdogs for Tea
          • 8 Years

No one 'some how gets in the bonus' - they achieve certain tasks, that are there for everyone to see, that carry bps weighting that add up and get compared with other players to privide for a bonus or not

        • 8 Years

I agree with this, bps deductions for missed shots seems harsh, the winning goal bps in a 4-0 win seems fanciful

Laca and Morata captainers, are you satisfied?

I'm rather disappointed considering how Welbeck of all people performed and that Kane without captain (assuming 3 bonus points) did better than captain Lacazette

Everton were shockingly poor today. Expected they would've been much tighter defensively

    Eriksen - Pogba - Phillips - Atsu - Carroll
    Kane - Lukaku - Chica

    .4 ITB, 1 FT

What to do with Yoshida? WBA has West Ham home GW5 so I'll keep Phillips for now (likely until I use my WC)
