Yahoo Focus – Gameweek 6

There’s another big Premier League £10k Saturday contest on offer in our partner game Yahoo over the upcoming Gameweek.

This incorporates the seven Saturday matches that take place from 3pm onwards and culminates with the 5.30pm clash between Leicester City and Liverpool at the King Power Stadium.

Guaranteed to run, it’s £5 to enter and is a multi-entry offering, allowing you to select up to 10 teams. The top 450 places pay out – there’s a minimum win-back of £10, with £2,000 going to the Yahoo manager who finishes in top spot.

Our picks will be tailored specifically with this contest in mind, then, as this is the biggest pay-out over the weekend.

The Yahoo game is driven by Opta data and has a scoring system that is perfectly suited for members of our community looking for a Daily Fantasy Sports offering.

New players can sign up and claim a free £50 in credit to your account when you deposit just £5. Promocode: Fantasy50.

And if you enter the £10k contest before 9pm today, you will receive a second free entry. Please be aware that there is one free entry per user.

Before you start building your squad, it’s also worth having a read of our Strategy Guide, which assesses both the mechanics of the Yahoo game and the type of players who tend to profit.

My Strongest XI

Ederson – £15
Marcos Alonso – £17
Benjamin Mendy – £16
James Tarkowski – £12
Philipp Coutinho – £23
Gylfi Sigurdsson – £17
Robbie Brady – £14
Marc Pugh – £10
Sergio Aguero – £29
Romelu Lukaku – £28
Jamie Vardy – £18

As Yahoo allows late swaps up until each kick-off, our listed line-up could be subject to change.

With keepers awarded points for wins or draws (and earning double the points for clean sheets as defenders), we’re backing Man City’s Ederson at home to Crystal Palace. Up against a side that have yet to produce a goal or point in the first five Gameweeks, Pep Guardiola’s men have to be heavily favoured to deliver at both ends of the pitch.

Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso continues as a mainstay in our Yahoo line-up. The raiding left wing-back has averaged 11.1 points per appearance this season – put into perspective, only two midfielders in the Saturday £10k contest have exceeded that. Yet Alonso remains relatively kind on the budget at a cost of £17 as he visits a Stoke side that’s conceded twice in three successive matches across all competitions. He’s ranked second for crosses (18) and shots (11) for the Blues ahead of their trip to the bet365 Stadium.

We’re doubling up on the Man City defence for the clash with Crystal Palace. Their raiding left-back Benjamin Mendy looks set to pose Roy Hodgson’s side plenty of problems down the flank – since making his debut in Gameweek 3, he’s the second top defender for crosses (27) and chances created (seven). By comparison, his identically-priced fellow full-back Kyle Walker has mustered just five crosses and two key passes over that period, despite bettering the former Monaco man by two assists to one.

Burnley’s James Tarkowski sets you back less than fellow central defender Ben Mee (£12 to £14) for the visit of Huddersfield. Sean Dyche’s side have conceded just three goals in the last four Gameweeks and Tarkowski’s defensive contribution has been crucial – he’s made more clearances (56) than any player in the league this season. He’s also joint-top defender for successful headers (26), suggesting he’ll pose a big threat in the Terriers’ box. And that could be vital, given that Burnley rank third for attempts from set-pieces (24).

With Mo Salah (£26) classified as a forward in the Yahoo game, we turn to his cheaper team-mate Philippe Coutinho for Liverpool’s trip to Leicester. Despite failing to deliver a goal or assist in last week’s draw with Burnley, the Brazilian produced seven shots on goal and created five scoring chances on his first start of the season – still earning a respectable 12.55 points. And his midweek first-half display against the Foxes in the cup also looks encouraging – Coutinho produced four shots and three key passes before making way at the break.

Everton’s dire start to the season means that their regulars remain out of the premium bracket for a home encounter with Bournemouth. Setting you back just £17, Gylfi Sigurdsson is £9 less than the most expensive midfielder, Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne (£26). Encouragingly for the Toffees, Bournemouth have conceded more shots on target (31) than any team. With set-pieces also in hand, the summer signing looks vital to Everton’s chances of earning the points.

Robbie Brady’s delivery looks vital to Burnley’s prospects at home to Huddersfield. The number one player for both successful crosses (15) and successful corners (11) over the first five Gameweeks, the Irishman has served up assists against Spurs and Liverpool in his last trio of league appearances. Given that no team-mate has mustered more attempts on goal than Brady’s eight, a price of £14 looks excellent value for money.

With the Yahoo game allowing for late swaps all the way up to kick-off, Bournemouth’s Marc Pugh is one to monitor as a potential budget enabler. After returning to the starting XI at home to Brighton last week, he was afforded a role as a sub in the cup win over the Seagulls, emerging from the bench to supply the winner for Josh King. At a price of just £10, he could be one of the cheapest starters around.

We have to go for the man-of-the-moment, Sergio Aguero, as Man City look for a repeat of last season’s 5-0 win over weekend visitors Crystal Palace. The Argentine has thrived since a switch to 4-1-3-2 in Gameweek 4, firing more shots in the box (eight) and efforts on target (six) than any player over that period on his way to delivering four goals and two assists. Up against a defence without a clean sheet, he’s the most expensive player for the £10k Saturday contest at a cost of £29.

A trip to Southampton is unlikely to derail Romelu Lukaku’s (£28) early-season momentum. The Man United frontman has netted in both road trips in the first five and faces an unconvincing defence that’s conceded twice in each of their two home matches. Only Harry Kane has produced more shots (32 to 24) and efforts in the box (23 to 18) than the five-goal Lukaku to date.

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy comes in at a very respectable £18 for the 5.30pm visit of Liverpool. That’s a full £11 cheaper than Aguero, yet Vardy has already scored four times, including twice at Arsenal and once at home to Chelsea. The Foxes’ frontman’s record against the Merseysiders more than merits his inclusion – he has scored two goals at home to Jurgen Klopp’s side in each of the last two seasons. Vardy is expected to be fit in time to face the Reds, though we also have one eye on Watford’s Richarlison (£15) as back-up for the trip to Swansea City if he fails to make it.

This Week’s Contests

As mentioned above, the Premier League £10k Saturday contest offers the biggest pay-out – this gets underway at 3pm and covers the seven matches over the remainder of that day.

Indeed, the Saturday 3pm slot has the three biggest prize contests of the weekend.

There’s the Premier League £2k Saturday, which costs £10 to enter and has a minimum win-back of £15 to the top 75 Yahoo managers. Guaranteed to run, you can enter up to two teams for this contest, with the winner earning £250.

The Premier League £1k Saturday costs £25 to enter and is also guaranteed to run. The top 13 Yahoo managers share the prize pool – top spot earns you £200, with a minimum win-back of £50.

And Yahoo are also running a Premier League £1,000,000 Perfect Lineup Cup , which takes place over Gameweek 1-19.

There’s £40k in prizes on offer, with £30k shared among the top 5,000 and £10k going to the winner. The Yahoo Cup also has a “£1,000,000 challenge”, which gives away £1m to any user who selects the perfect line-up in any given Gameweek to score the maximum possible points.

You can open an account and get started immediately.

If you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used as cash to enter paid contests.

I brought in Wimmer for last Gameweek. On paper it seems ideal, as Stoke have fantastic rotation with Burnley.

However, he get a whooping 0 points and is a doubt for the match against Chelsea. Of course, I'm stating Mee over him this weekend but I wouldn't being him in with news of this knock.

Monitor the situation. (Although you already have Pieters, so there's your rotation option - even if it is overpriced a little).

Anything from Conte regarding Willian, Pedro?

Pedro fit. Willian did not play in cup so he is fresh. If needs to quess I would say Willian will start as there is no reason to take any risks with Pedro if he had even small injury. Front three might be Willian Hazard Morata.

      It's like the curate's egg.

I really dislike RLC, he has only played 257 minutes in the crappest team in the PL.

      I prefer:

      Otamendi to Mendy
Monreal to Kolasinac(this may alter in time)
      Azpilicueta to Alonso

My issue with Calvin-L is that I suspect that Joselu may be better.

      You are missing Eriksen ...

I'm aware I'm missing Eriksen, my one big regret - but my aim of an early wildcard is to cover all 6 big teams, which I've managed to do here

Eriksen and Kane are simply too much for me right now. I may look to him again for Salah/Mki which I can do quite easily

Otamedi to Mendy - yeah maybe, Monreal no chance, he's Arsenals' worst defender in a team of bad defenders
Dave over Marcus - I'm tempted, but there is nobody I really to upgrade to at this stage

agree re Joselu - my problem is Ritchie, Mbemba and Elliot are nailed in my team!

(also RLC agree, I'll probably stick with Tom Carroll - but worry re his minutes coming up)

You are sadly mistaken in the case of Montreal! 😆

Yes, the Newcastle problem is a big one. I have very bad memories of Ritchie, and don't need Joselu just yet, so I am sweeping it all under the carpet!!!

I could do Salah to Eriksen and Alonso to Azpi

but going without Pool's best attacker (if granted not best finisher) seems crazy when I've got the wildcard in play

Newcastle fan here - Dummett's been our first choice left-back for a few years now, but there's absolutely nothing to say Mbemba can't keep him out of the team if he's playing well. I'd say Mbemba is a much better footballer personally. All depends on his form.

Mbemba is a CB by trade, but he'd be fourth choice in that position, behind Lascelles, Clark and Lejeune.

Soo.. I was holding my Wildcard until after Gamweek 8 but with price rises I will most probably not be able to afford my structural change:

    Current Team:
    DeGea/Elliot
    Hegazi/Bertrand/Lowe/Alexander-arnold/Mbemba
    Mhiki/Willian/Eriksen/Richarlison/Carrol
    Kane/Jesus/Firmino
    ITB1.4
    0 Transfers

    WC team:
    Fabianski/Elliot
    Alonso/Kolasinac/Otamendi/Davies/ (mbemba)
    Silva/Hazard/Gross/Ritchie/(4.5)
    Kane/Aguero/(Calvert-Lewin)
    0.0ITB

The way the transfers are going it looks like Davies and Fabianski might increase tonight and Firmino might decrease. If any of these changes then I won't be able to afford.

    Concerns surrounding Willian/Alex/Hegazi starting

WC Team structure change to 4-4-2. Think Hazard will start and might have a impact with big hitters at the back

What do you think I should do

    1) Hold off until Gamweek 8 before Wildcarding
    2) Press the button and WC

I would hold if I new that none of the above players would be affected by price changes tonight

Could be a great third striker option given his price, form and fixtures. Will be keeping a keen eye on the Everton match this weekend. Thanks.

Too risky to captain Jesus, over Kane?

No. Not really a risk at all.

When 'they' say fixture swing what does that mean exactly? And is it after this GW or next?

Help me out. Ritche & Mendy or Ramsey & Otamendi?

I currently have this team on WC:
    Fabianski (Elliot)
Jones - Kolasinac - Otamendi - Naughton (Mbemba)
Salah - Mhiki - Ramsey (Cork, RLC)
    Kane - Aguero - Vardy
