Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Salah Delivers

Liverpool’s star man is on the mark yet again to help offset some of the damage suffered by those without Sergio Aguero following his four-goal haul.

It wasn’t quite the 21 points produced by the Man City striker on Saturday, but Mohamed Salah’s goal, assist and two bonus in the Reds’ 2-0 win at Southampton was another good job well done by the prolific Egyptian.

Some 22.1% of Fantasy Premier League (FP) managers made him Gameweek 27’s most captained player and enjoyed a 13-point tally – the 12th double-figure performance of his stellar season – as a result.

Exactly half of FPL’s pre-Gameweek 27 top 100 managers were among those handing him the armband (Aguero was picked by 26), and Salah is now likely to receive similar backing for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool have three home matches, against West Ham, Newcastle and Watford, in the next four, with only Gameweek 30’s trip to Man United likely to dull his captaincy prospects.

Then again, Salah’s form is so irresistible – he’s produced attacking returns in 16 of his last 18 appearances – that even Old Trafford might not be able to tame him.

He set up Roberto Firmino’s opener at St Mary’s before the roles were reversed for the second goal, providing the 39% of managers on the Brazilian with 12 points as their man also took home maximum bonus.

A run of two goals in the previous six Gameweeks had persuaded 93,000+ to sell Firmino ahead of Saturday’s deadline, but he now has 12 goals for the season – his best ever league total – as he continues to do battle with Jamie Vardy for the mid-price forward slot. Surprisingly, however, Firmino still ranks fourth for sales so far ahead of Gameweek 28.

Liverpool defenders have been rather less prized assets this season, but today’s clean sheet made it two shut-outs from their last four matches, both of which have come away from home.

It was also the first clean sheet the Reds have kept with Virgil Van Dijk (5.5%) in the side.

The Dutchman will now be considered as the ideal replacement for Nicolas Otamendi, particularly if Man City’s FA Cup tie with Wigan goes to a replay, thus taking them out of the Gameweek 28 meeting with Arsenal. City will also miss Gameweek 31 should they progress past the Latics.

Liverpool have no such worries, their fourth round exit in the cup ensuring that Gameweek’s fixture against Watford will definitely go ahead.

In fact, the Reds’ lack of FA Cup duty should be a real boon for Fantasy managers, lessening the threat of rotation despite their upcoming Champions League commitments.

Gameweek 29’s visit from Newcastle might be the exception, however, coming as it does just three days before the second leg of their European tie against Porto, with the United match following that four days later.

The magnitude of the later two fixtures suggests that coach Jurgen Klopp will field his strongest possible sides in both, perhaps creating anxiety for that teamsheet against the Magpies.

Unholy times for Saints

Southampton’s 3-2 win at West Brom last week proved to be a blip and they’ve now won just twice in the league since Gameweek 13.

They did at least force Loris Karius into four saves today, helping the Liverpool stopper earn a bonus point, but both form and fixtures are stacked against them now.

The Saints will play just two of their next eight matches at home, and one of those is against Chelsea.

Four of their next five (STK new swa whu) involve relegation rivals and will likely decide their fate as the schedule turns rather spiteful from Gameweek 33.

All of that means their assets have little to no Fantasy appeal now.

James Ward-Prowse’s run of three goals and two assists from his previous four starts prompted more than 78,000 managers to draft him in this week.

The midfielder did at least put in a shift for his new owners, delivering three key passes and having two efforts on target – both team-leading figures on the day.

But his withdrawal on 70 minutes suggests his pitch-time could even be in doubt again, having played 90 mins in each of the last four matches.

Just to dimish the lure of their players further, Southampton will miss Gameweek 31 if either they, or their scheduled league opponents Swansea City, win in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.

The Saints travel to West Brom, while the Swans are also away, at Sheffield Wednesday.

Yeah that's it. The thing is, the free hit teams in 31 are going to look the same as the non free hit teams to some extent.

Salah Firmino VVD/Mané Walcott Shaqiri. Most players already have these guys, with Wilson potentially having a game as well- I can't see the sense in having a free hit to bring in other players that are playing.

            Some even have Niasse.

Gw35 will have games like Arsenal V West Ham where a free hit could see you bring in big differentials like Aubameyang that you'd actually want for that gameweek, but not in the others.

Normal 31, WC 32/33, BB 34, FH 35, TC 37 looks like the best option to me.

I am not totally up to speed on gw 31 and use of free hit chip etc. know most trying to save the chip for later?

    But does this make sense-

    - Ignore players who ARE playing in 31, get in ones now who are not
    - Play free hit chip 31
    - Will then already have a squad already full of double gameweek players (ie those that blanked) and haven't loaded my team with Stoke and Watford players. Have also kept all my 'big' players with value tied up in

    Does this work?

    1. Eddie
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Yep, that is one way. But if you have WC still then you can get a few GW31 players in (in addition to the Pool players you likely already have), then WC 32/33 to bring in DGWers, then FH in 35 when there are more blanks.

      1. Joggers Nipple

Thanks, have all chips/ WC but to be brutally honest cant be bothered over thinking this and if my idea works its just seems simple!

    2. MikeDuff
      • 7 Years
      6 years, 2 months ago

      Kind of yeah.

Your problem is that you can have a decent guess who will miss gw31 but you could do with knowing who will get through in the Cup for the next blank GW. No way of knowing.

Also, assuming you have wildcard still, when would you use that?

The safe option is to load on gw31 players and then wildcard but your way could certainly pay off.

Yep, FH is almost definitely best in 31 then. You will have a fair idea as to who will Blank in GW 35, so then it's a question of getting enough playing players for that week and as many DGWers as possible for 34 and 37.

Depends if you have many Pool, Stoke, Everton and Watford players already. Bournemouth may well play, as might Sot, depends on outcome of FA cup matches.

Other blank week is GW35, but likely fewer blanks. I think I can field 8 or 9 players GW 31 so will keep hold of my FH for 35.

GW 31 is going to have loads of blanks, especially for teams like City. Then in 34 those teams will have doubles. The best time to wildcard is inbetween them to minimise trouble from 31 and maximise BB in 34.

          Normal 31, WC 32/33, BB 34, FH 35, TC 37.

Plan for GW31 on WC, FH in 35. BGW sorted

        Use FTs to get DGWers?

If you load up on GW31 players on WC you will really struggle to get a decent DGW team out for 34 I think.

Apart from Liverpool players (who don't have a DGW) I don't really want players from teams who have a game in GW 31 hanging around in my team.

Too early imo, but everyone's team is different

    Any of these stand out?

    A) Alonso & Martial -> Bavies & Mane
    B) Martial & Lingard -> Ibe/Mili & Mane
    C) Martial & Wilson -> Ibe/Mili & Firmino

    Pickford
    Dunk, Francis, Gomez
    Salah, Sterling, Martial, Lingard
    Kane, Aguero, Wilson

    Elliot, Alonso, Ogbonna, RLC
    Bank 0.1m, 2FT

I don't know why you'd want Mane on the back of today's performance. Definitely C.

True. He still had a few chances though so expect he’ll get points, but it’s mainly the fixtures and no blank.

Wilson at home to NEW this week is the only thing putting me off C.

    How does this look lads?
    Fabianski (Coleman)
    Alonso Robertson Fernandez Chilwell (Ogbonna)
De Bruyne Salah Sterling (McArthur, Mesa)
    Kane Aguero Firmino

Tried to get a core of Alonso-KDB-Salah-Sterling-Kane-Aguero-Firmino

Is this a WC or your team as it stands? I like it a lot, obviously front 6 are golden. FH in 31?

This is a pretty big hit (-16) in hopes of gaining a leg up. FH in 31.

I know you are probably a bit biased, but not worth a -16 with City's fixtures, PL, CL and cup. That is a lot of eggs in one basket.

Yeah that bias is probably gonna kill me. Did very well for me this week though. I'm going through most of this to keep Aguero, otherwise I'd just simply get Kane in for a -4 or -8.

Personally I'm ditching Kun for Kane as planned, to do otherwise would involve costly surgery and no guarantees Kun is going to perform well over next couple, then Jesus is back and rotation surely looms.

Yeah I'm gonna make the call on him tomorrow. Finding it hard to drop that guy even with fixtures and form.

I was thinking Robertson looks good, but his crossing and first touches seem hurried and heavy. So I guess it depends on VVD threat in box, hmm

I thought Robertson looked good today, really positive, but with Moreno fit he is a little too risky for me.

I got Ramsey for Lingard, even though Ramsey didn't play, I lucked out with Ogbonna finally off bench

DGW heavy hitters you want to have? Close golden boot, going to be fun. Fixture mixes and caps with the chips. To me it seems to be shaping up for wild days.

Aguero owners. Do you keep or ship for Kane? Would be ideal to have both but if that’s not a option?

I know it sounds nuts after the weekend but I’m doing Agüero to Kane after the cup games. I was on board with “Kanexit 2” - the plan was always a switch for three GWs so I’m sticking to it.

On current basis i think Kane and Aguero have equal points potential next week do keep kun. But Kane is amustwin for hudders home so ship kun after arsenal game. Personally cant see Jesus playing arsenal game and anyways ur gonna captain Salah so kun to Kane is not that important Atleast for next gw
