The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk- Taking Liberties?

Three home games and not a single goal conceded- Swansea once again returned a clean sheet this afternoon as Brendan Rodgers’ side finally picked up their first three points of the season.

While the swashbuckling performances of both Manchester clubs provide Fantasy managers plenty options going forward, the Swans continue to offer plenty cut-price options at the back and, in this thoroughly unpredictable Fantasy campaign, are showing a defensive consistency that seems to be lacking the length and breadth of the Premier League.

Michel Vorm defied West Brom at the Liberty Stadium with a string of saves and jumped to second in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeeper rankings- at 4.1 he’s cementing his position as one of the bargains of the season. Ahead of the Dutchman, the likes of Angel Rangel, Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor –the left-back was stretchered off after a clumsy challenge from Peter Odemwingie, however- are all racking up the points right now.

Shipping four goals in their first fixture, it seemed impossible that Swansea would then go on to concede just one in the following four but, exposed to the harsh realities of Premier League life in the Etihad Stadium opener, Rodgers’ side have learned fast. While the likes of Arsenal are hit for four by a side managed by Steve Kean, the Welsh club are defying all expectation with a series of resolute displays.

In a sense, it merely adds to the frustration of many Fantasy managers this season. There have no doubt been a proportion of casual players who initially added Swansea defensive options to their ranks simply due to the low price, allowing their budgets to be allocated to big-money buys such as Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Hand one of them the captain’s armband week after week and bang- there’s your big points haul right there. No need for tactics.

As the big names bang in the goals, the dirt-cheap options chalk up the clean sheets- this Fantasy lark is supposed to favour the more dedicated player; study the form and the fixtures, rotate as and when accordingly. At present, though, it seems far from it.

Hilario and Brunt out for Given and Dyer.? 🙂 Just suggestions. The rest of the team looks ok for the next week really.

If you want a punt on a midfielder I'd say Mata, I really want him as well. And for a forward, Id say pick Agbonlahor. But you REALLY need to get rid of Hilario.

Ditch Baines, and upgrade midfield with the money. No need to WC. Maybe a 4 point hit to lose Hilario too.

    Bosingwa, Kompany, Simpson, DeLaet, Shawcross
    Silva, Young, Taarabt, Dyer, Brunt
    Rooney, RVP, Agbonlahor.

That's my squad to choose from for next week. I'm thinking of keeping my transfer and doing two next week, thought I desperately want to trade out Brunt.

Any tips on who to play if I decide to keep my FT?

    Thanks guys. 🙂

Well I plan on staying with Brunt, as they should be desperate to feature him fit. I would have hoped he didn´t play at all in that debacle. I would play the 3-3-4 with Brunt and Shawx on the pine. Your decision looks pretty cut and dry considering the fixtures. I´d say save it and don´t knee jerk...unless Rooney getss hurt which I reallyy hope happens and Torres has the game of the century...which we kinda doubt.

Not really a massive surprise for 4.0mil players though. A few decent regulars around the 4.5, and with so much rotation this year especially and unusually in the smaller teams, I think a playing bench is the only true essential in the game this year.

Sadly Williams is 4.5. Tierney - I don't trust Norwich with rotation (currently bitten with de Laet), and have Simpson already. So that leaves Gabbidon for me... had him first week, got a negative score. Guess QPR have improved since then.

Worth monitoring just how bad Taylor N's injury is...

I'd be tempted to say Barton actually. SWP still not quite there with his finishing, Barton is.

That trio of Barton, Taarabt and SWP really has the makings of something special though and any one of those 3 is going to serve you well this season.

I also think it's only a matter of time before they get a pen and Taarabt scores a wonder goal.

assuming adam and kompany dont get injured today, im considering this move:

    Baines, Nzogbia, Dzeko OUT
    Kompany, Adam, Gervinho IN
4 point hit to give me a squad with:

    Given-Vorm

    Kompany-Bosingwa-Brown-Simpson-De Laet

    Young-Silva-Adam-Arteta-Surman

    Suarez-Gervinho-Odemwingie

ive been sans rooney from the start, feel like i have to ride the storm at this point and take a couple of punts. im barely top MILLION right now. if simpson sits on my bench with ANOTHER cleanie while my captain gets me 4 points I think my head is going to explode.

I've had Mata a couple weeks now and although he hasn't quite brought in a big haul yet he looks the business, think its only a matter (no pun intended) of time til we see some double digit returns.

Yeah i've got 8 point Dyer on my bench but i can't see any of my outfied players not playing today so i've resigned myself to missing out on those points.

You have no man utd coverage who are creating significant attacking pts, IMO you have to have some cover here.

Baines needs to go to free up funds for Rooney.

He needs £1.5m more than his current bank of £0.9m to do Bent to Rooney so could still spend around £6m on a good replacement for Baines.

My team for next week looka like:

    Given(Vorm)

    Bosingwa Kompany Shawcross (Ward, Taylor)

    Jarvis Adam Anderson Silva(N.Dyer)

    Dzeko Rooney Suarez

Any thoughts? With .4m in the bank I'm hopin for Adam to gain .1m in value so I can get Mata.

    Any other suggestions?

Good team, although IMO there are better options than Jarvis. Adam needs a big game for your price rise as currently more people transferring out than transferring in

Toss a coin really. All 3 of them look like they are going to score well, just maybe on different weeks.

I have Taarabt but you can make a case for Barton or SWP too.

Really is a case of whichever one you fancy the most (no homo).

Money spent better in Midfield. e.g. down grade Baines to Shawcross, upgrade Moses to Arteta

Gabbidon is the best £4m def imo. Nailed on starter and has 3 cleanies already, with the promise of more cleanies to come.

Lamps is you big decision. He has been a banker for many years in FPL and has always come at a price, but many feel too expensive now for the return and hence less than 3% own him. Could release some good money here. Is only my opionion though
