The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk- Taking Liberties?

Three home games and not a single goal conceded- Swansea once again returned a clean sheet this afternoon as Brendan Rodgers’ side finally picked up their first three points of the season.

While the swashbuckling performances of both Manchester clubs provide Fantasy managers plenty options going forward, the Swans continue to offer plenty cut-price options at the back and, in this thoroughly unpredictable Fantasy campaign, are showing a defensive consistency that seems to be lacking the length and breadth of the Premier League.

Michel Vorm defied West Brom at the Liberty Stadium with a string of saves and jumped to second in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeeper rankings- at 4.1 he’s cementing his position as one of the bargains of the season. Ahead of the Dutchman, the likes of Angel Rangel, Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor –the left-back was stretchered off after a clumsy challenge from Peter Odemwingie, however- are all racking up the points right now.

Shipping four goals in their first fixture, it seemed impossible that Swansea would then go on to concede just one in the following four but, exposed to the harsh realities of Premier League life in the Etihad Stadium opener, Rodgers’ side have learned fast. While the likes of Arsenal are hit for four by a side managed by Steve Kean, the Welsh club are defying all expectation with a series of resolute displays.

In a sense, it merely adds to the frustration of many Fantasy managers this season. There have no doubt been a proportion of casual players who initially added Swansea defensive options to their ranks simply due to the low price, allowing their budgets to be allocated to big-money buys such as Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Hand one of them the captain’s armband week after week and bang- there’s your big points haul right there. No need for tactics.

As the big names bang in the goals, the dirt-cheap options chalk up the clean sheets- this Fantasy lark is supposed to favour the more dedicated player; study the form and the fixtures, rotate as and when accordingly. At present, though, it seems far from it.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

i had barton last mon night and needed him to get 10 points so i would win win my H2H ,accordingly watched him like a hawk thruout the match. he visited newcastles pen area once in 90 mins and generally played quite deep so i sold him sat morning and of course he scored vs wolves ,still think i did right and of the 3 of SWP taarabt QPR mids he`d be 3rd choice ,also explosion waiting to happen...not for me.

Barton is QPRs best player and will be well ahead of SWP/Taarabt by the end of the season.

Well SWP is close to bagging a dozen+ points (Suarez anyone?) each match by the look of it, there will be weeks when that comes good. Be interesting to see the bonus as he got minus figures even though he was man of the match last time! 😀

Talking of Suarez, he dropped today, he'd better come good for me the little bugger! 😀

Would welcome your opinions on this decision lads.

For the four point hit -

    N'Zogbia out Cabaye in
    A. Young out Mata in

Currently have no Chelsea coverage, whilst I have Rooney for Man United, which could half negate Young going. Thoughts?

Spurs - Liverpool has 3-3 written on it so Liverpool will probably win 1-0 the way this season is going. Likewise, Chelsea probably win 2-1 or even 1-0 as well...

I just cant see AVB's team being smashed by anyone. He's clearly on his way to sort things and Man Utd have their own issues, it's just that opponents so far were unable to take advantage.

Not sure of what minutes Nasri got mid week, but Aguero has played alot of gametime lately so i see him getting subbed off and Dzeko playing 90, whereas like Aguero, Silva has played alot so i see him getting subbed and Nasri staying the 90

The bonus is not based on our data - FPL have a different data set and use a very different algorithm. Personally, I think ours gives a better representation of performance from a Fantasy perspective - but then I would say that.

As posted below though - there are some similarities - the algorithm for the EA SPORTS PPI uses the same statistics fields as our Influence rating - passes, blocks, tackles etc - however, our data is gathered from a different source than EA's so the numbers recorded for those fields are different in some cases.

No the ICT Index score takes in Creativity and Threat - our Influence rating is the nearest to the FPL Bonus - that shares the same type of statistics although we don't add weighting for wins and clean sheets and, our penalties for missed shots are nowhere near as severe by the looks of things.

So, if you want a view on likey Bonus, filter your data by Current Gameweek, go to Player Stats > All Players > Fantasy Index and then click on any team name in the table to view their players for the Gameweek. Sort by Influence and that will give you a view on our take on the Bonus.

1st & probably last time I captained a defender (Baines).
Holt getting 0, Given over Vorm and u get another standard GW.
3rd year in FPL, worst experience by a mile... I do also hope Rooney has a quiet one and the GW remains low scoring; Roo, Dzeko, Lamps & Bos to go...
Mata & Kompany in for O'Hara & Baines next GW (2 freebies)... any reason not to?

If you had to make 2 transfers who would you sell from: Dzeko, Suarez, Nasri, O'Hara and Brunt? Transfers in should be: Adebayor and Wright-Philips.

Am thinking Dzeko and O'Hara right now to go..

With those changes I may go with another to sell Brunt but who'd be worth getting in out of Ramsey, Cabaye (or any other options?)?

    My team is:
    Given / Begovic
    Bosingwa/Warnock/Brown/S Taylor/Ward
    Mata/Nasri/O'Hara/Brunt/Dyer
    Rooney/Suarez/Dzeko

    A: young > mata. + Dzeko > adeboyer
    B: young > lampard. + Suarez > adeboyer

Not really Jack, Van Persie could have easily have had a big point score yesterday. 1.) Arsenal should have had a penalty. 2.) Gervinho never squared to him on at least 2 occasions when he was in space, 3.) Paul Robinson made 3 quality saves from him.

Cabaye looks great. When Santon comes in, he should be on all set plays, including pens and B'Burn next. Everyone will be going for big hitters, but he is the most tempting cheapie MF at the mo, ahead of SWP.

                  I was just curious.
Seems an odd opinion of a player that has dragged Liverpool through a couple of seasons recently.

Sure, the new team is 'reborn' and reintegrating a Liverpool great may prove tricky, but he's still got something to offer.

U mean that Gerrard will increase or decrease his points potential? I think that Gerrard won't play that much. He is far form fit and even if he comes back I wonder how much time will be needed in order for him to be injured again.

I'd tend to agree, though I think Adam is becoming increasingly important to Liverpool. The Lucas/Adam base allows players like Downing, Suarez (and maybe Gerrard) to express themselves.

For me, Gerrard's position all depends on how this operation has affected him. He's 31 now, so that burst of pace is already waning. I can't see the all action Gerrard ever returning to full force.

Na wildcarded, saved two transfers. If RVP had been on fire then I would keep him but Suarez is better for the price and I could do with switching Brunt. If I do end up keeping RVP over Suarez I have no idea what to do with my transfers at the mo.

Tell me about that (Suarez wise). But from my experience more people sell him more chance for him to deliver. I believe the lads are having Rooney/ Aguero striker partnership and he needs to go.

Regarding QPR I am gonna think out of the box and will say Faurlin.

So far ive learnt this season:

The generic team we all started with is a complete flop

    Free wildcards are bloddy dangerous

A run of good fixtures means avoid that team like the plague

Rooneys hair has taken over his body and made him good again (i bet the hair follicles have a leader, the super hair follicle)

Arsenel will be relegated and arsegne fired

    Mancini doesnt play fpl

My MF is in tatters and Everton's are so horrific I refuse to look at them again.

I just can't see me transferring out Baines, though.
