The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk- Taking Liberties?

Three home games and not a single goal conceded- Swansea once again returned a clean sheet this afternoon as Brendan Rodgers’ side finally picked up their first three points of the season.

While the swashbuckling performances of both Manchester clubs provide Fantasy managers plenty options going forward, the Swans continue to offer plenty cut-price options at the back and, in this thoroughly unpredictable Fantasy campaign, are showing a defensive consistency that seems to be lacking the length and breadth of the Premier League.

Michel Vorm defied West Brom at the Liberty Stadium with a string of saves and jumped to second in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeeper rankings- at 4.1 he’s cementing his position as one of the bargains of the season. Ahead of the Dutchman, the likes of Angel Rangel, Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor –the left-back was stretchered off after a clumsy challenge from Peter Odemwingie, however- are all racking up the points right now.

Shipping four goals in their first fixture, it seemed impossible that Swansea would then go on to concede just one in the following four but, exposed to the harsh realities of Premier League life in the Etihad Stadium opener, Rodgers’ side have learned fast. While the likes of Arsenal are hit for four by a side managed by Steve Kean, the Welsh club are defying all expectation with a series of resolute displays.

In a sense, it merely adds to the frustration of many Fantasy managers this season. There have no doubt been a proportion of casual players who initially added Swansea defensive options to their ranks simply due to the low price, allowing their budgets to be allocated to big-money buys such as Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Hand one of them the captain’s armband week after week and bang- there’s your big points haul right there. No need for tactics.

As the big names bang in the goals, the dirt-cheap options chalk up the clean sheets- this Fantasy lark is supposed to favour the more dedicated player; study the form and the fixtures, rotate as and when accordingly. At present, though, it seems far from it.

He tweeted about being unhappy at 'not being good enough' for the team. Can't imagine Moyes is impressed. He's an early contender for the 'worst FPL punt of the season' for my team. As is the guy I replaced him with, a Mr F Torres. In fact, that slot in my team appears to be cursed, and that might be why RVP has turned to sh*t (FPL wise).

I actually largely disagree with quite a bit of the point my colleague makes in that sentence.

I am an Angel Rangel owner and am only one of about 8,000 people who own him. I credit any of my rivals if they did the same thing and bought a Swansea defender and don't certainly think they bought them "just because they're bottom of the barrel prices".

And buying Michel Vorm was just good sense, there are only two goalkeepers at 4.0 who play and one of those is a Norwich goalkeeper. Makes sense to me.

Buying Michel Vorm after he conceded four goals was a bit of a punt, but an educated one given how well he played that night at Eastlands.

But you could have got lucky with buying them as they were cheap. Last season with Rooney off form to start worh and with bargains about you had more scope to be inventive. Perhaps.

Im not actually a member so i can't vote. But i'd vote no. No point getting rid now, let's see where we are at the end of the season. Their would be a mass exodus if he was sacked, RVP at the front of the queue! Players like Miyachi and Chamberlain will develop well under Wenger. In my opinion, we need a new assistant, Pat Rice offers nothing. And we desperately need a defensive coach.

Cabaye was brilliant today. They pushed him deeper in the second half and it suited him a lot more.

Next time you post a question, can you make it a little more offensive on the eye please?

You've got a very strong team, certainly not a wildcard situation. Next weekend is all about Arsenal, Chelsea and West Brom. Find out a way to squeeze in any of RVP, Mata and Odemwingie and you'll be fine.

Not sure about West Brom, they look unstable IMO.
I need to get Mata as well.
What about A. Young -> Mata? I already have Rooney.

Hmm it's a tricky one. I'd say hold on to Young. You'll most likely only want him back the following week for Norwich at home.

            Thanks.
            Yeah...
Same goes for Silva really, I want to keep him for the rest of the season.
Downgrading either RVP (BOL) or Roonet just doesn't make sense.

One option is Dzeko -> cheapie
            and Jarvis -> Mata

            This is just too tough.

Maybe make one transfer next week based on fixture and the scout picks when they come out next week. Definitely no need to WC though.

Looks a good team overall. Maybe downgrade Bent to Agbonhalor and upgrade a midfielder.

Almost certainly. He does every time I don't make him captain.

He better not. I'm thinking he will get sent off after 5 mins for going mental at Cech and head-butting him.

Although, I guess he might not.
