Scout Scribbles- Balotelli to Face FA Charge

Mario Balotelli faces a four-match ban after appearing to stamp on Scott Parker. Reports suggest Peter Crouch could also be under investigation for an alleged eye-gouging incident at the weekend, Nani could be out for a fortnight, while Frank Lampard is set to miss Chelsea’s FA Cup game with QPR.

Mario Balotelli has until tomorrow evening to appeal or accept the charges of violent conduct dished out by the FA last night. Having examined footage of the incident in which Balotelli appeared to stamp on Tottenham’s Scott Parker, referee Howard Webb confirmed he would have dismissed the Italian striker. A three-match ban is the normal punishment for such a charge, but with Balotelli already seeing red at Anfield earlier in the season, he now faces a four-match ban which will begin with tomorrow night’s Carling Cup tie with Liverpool.

Should Balotelli look to appeal, he will be eligible for tomorrow’s game, although an unsuccessful appeal could extend his ban further. Given that the FA have already used footage to assess the incident and the fact that we’re dealing with Howard Webb – the FA’s most senior official – it would seem most unlikely that the charge will be overturned. City may feel more confident, however.

For Fantasy managers, Balotelli’s likely absence from three league games against (eve, FUL, avl), will raise the profile of Edin Dzeko as an option. The Bosnian has started City’s previous four games and earned an assist in Sunday’s 3-2 victory. Having begun the season in outstanding form, Dzeko clearly has the potential to offer an effective differential and provide at least a short-term alternative to the 11.1 Sergio Aguero.

Peter Crouch is another striker potentially in trouble. A report in the Daily Mirror claims that the FA have agreed to examine footage of an incident which appeared to show Crouch gouging the eyes of West Brom’s Jonas Olsson. Crouch could miss the FA Cup match with Derby on Saturday as well as league games against Manchester United and Sunderland.

There are further details emanating from Old Trafford concerning the casualties suffered in Sunday’s 2-1 win at the Emirates. On the plus side, The Times are amongst those reporting that Phil Jones’ ankle injury is not as severe as anticipated, suggesting that he has not suffered the ligament damage that Sir Alex Ferguson feared. There’s possibly a chance that Jones will be fit to face Liverpool in the FA Cup this weekend, with reports claiming he is feeling no real discomfort in the ankle.

Nani is more of a concern, however. There are several reports stating a likely two-week absence for the Portuguese winger, who was said to leave the Emirates wearing a protective boot. The Daily Mail claim that Nani has himself stating a likely absence and state that United are set to scan the injury, for fear of a cracked a metatarsal. Elsewhere, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick are expected to be available for the weekend Cup tie, despite suffering ankle and hamstring problems respectively.

Chelsea hope to have Frank Lampard available for the trip to Swansea next week, after scans revealed that the midfielder suffered just a small tear to his calf muscle in the 0-0 stalemate at Carrow Road. Meanwhile, Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the reasons behind Gary Cahill’s omission from the Chelsea squad at Norwich.

Gary Cahill trained with the team for three days and there are team principles to learn first, but he had a very good week and showed all his qualities.

Cahill is in line for his Chelsea debut this weekend and could make his first league appearance for the club at the Liberty next week. He is already amongst the most popular defensive signings in the Fantasy Premier League game, attracting over 6,000 transfers so far in the Gameweek, despite his no-show on Saturday. Look out for our Scout Report on Cahill’s prospects later in the week.

Still in West London, and the Mark Hughes revolution looks set to begin with the capture of AC Milan left-back Taye Taiwo. Reports on Sky yesterday claimed that a work permit has been granted as the deal reached its conclusion. Fantasy managers will be monitoring the Loftus Road entrance for new arrivals prior to the transfer window closing, as Rangers approach a run of opponents that could see their Fantasy output increase dramatically. A move for City’s Nedum Onuoha is also mooted, although a potential deal for Chelsea’s Alex looks to be in jeopardy amidst reports that the Brazilian prefers a move to Paris St Germain.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

That's exactly why I don't see why people have such a strong front 8, you've always got to bench one of them so why not have one cheapy there?

+1 Exactly. No point at all imo in having a strong front 8. Strong 7 sure with someone like a McClean/Dyer/Graham as an 8th

Have to go Aguero even tho it may be tough to bench McClean. Myself personally I like to have 2 cheapos in my front 8 to rotate. Currently McClean and Pilkington.

yeah its really hard to bench McClean, the lad is on fire and with Norwich at home, I feel he might be a really good outside shout as no one in my league have him.

But you have to bench one, and given the fixtures it's got to be one of the two City boys I'd say, but don't be surprised if you have some decent points sitting on your bench.

Welbeck is also on fire! I am thinking of silva, I can not see him doing anything more than 1 assist max in such a fixture, I think it is going to be one of the boring 1-0 win for city.

Very interested to see if Cahill makes a place his own at Chelsea. If so, I can have a WC team of

    Krul Vorm
Richards, Enrique, J Evans, Cahill, Kelly
    Sess, Dempsey, Silva, Valencia, Bale,
    RVP, Aguero, Graham

Which I think looks rather tasty. Standard front 7 round these parts I know, but didnt expect to be able to get a Man U, City, Liverpool and Chelsea defender in there too. Thought anyone? I guess the risk is 3 of my back 5 are not nailed on ATM.

Looking for opinions on the transfer of Moses to:

    1. Dyer
    2. Surman
    3. McClean (I have Sess already)
    4. Keep Moses

    What do y'all reckon?

It's called Afrikaans...which is another form of Dutch really. When the Dutch Settlers landed in the Cape the language basically changed over time and ended up being what we're speaking now. Guess that would be the easiest way to explain it...

pretty explosive WC team i've managed to concoct
    Krul Lindegaard
    Kompany Huth Evans Senderos Caulker
    Silva Bale Valencia Dempsey Sessegnon
    Rvp Adebayor Dzeko
    0.4
I know everyone's gonna say who i'm gonna bench each week, but i dont mind.. this week i'll bench dzeko away, next week dempsey and then sessegnon.. I somehow would'nt captain aguero ahead of Rvp/Silva and believe in maximisin points and keepin the number of hits down.. with that team, even with an injury here and there i would'nt be prone to kneejerks.. also Dzeko will be Ba when he returns in exactly 3 weeks.. Cant think of any better options in defense, midfield, attack so might as well get them all..

lol.. dint mean it that way.. all this time i've had moses on the bench who's been forced to come on cause of rest/rotation and gave me 2 pointers.. this way atleast i have loads of options.. can rotate players home/away/difficulty of fixtures more scientifically too

I'm not a fan of Huth this season. Could you not drop him and Caulker or even Senderos and get the Brown(SUN) / Simpson (NEW) rotation in there to fill your third spot in defense...as I assume you are playing Kompany and Evans most games...?

      Just an idea...

must say I am not at all into Lindy... Mignolet the better choice.

Utd are not that good keeping CSs... and with tough fixtures coming up... a def no no

always, having Lindy limits your choice of attacks to 2 Man U players... if there are some fixtures (which I have not had a good look at but am sure there will be) where Utd will give a romping, 3 attacking Man U players is better than 2...

Sunderland are just coming into it...

Ok thanks for the stats - was not aware (all in the premiership?)

I had Jones but he cocked up a few times... Lindy is ok but like I said it stifles the opportunity of 3 attacking players

when I played the WC I was looking for Utd to thrash Bolton (which they did and Rooney should have had a hatful!) with Nani, Valencia, and Rooney...

I was then hoping they would display more awesome attacking shows at the Emirates...

Utd overall was average... and my plans was not that good in the end... and Nani still out of form... might change things a bit after Stoke game... Rooney's last show

Seems a lot of people are either doing or agreeing that Sturridge > Welbeck is a good move this week.
Working on the assumption that Welbeck is first choice now (seems reasonable enough) is not likely that he will start vs. Liverpool in the cup? In which case would it not seem quite likely that Chica may be given a run out vs. Stoke? Seems like the kind of team suited to his playing on the shoulder type movement. Even though prices are going to swing a bit I think it's worth waiting for the teams on this one.

Anyone would consider Chamberlain? The lad looked sharp against Utd. If he starts regularly he could be a good shout.

He is a great player. One for the future. Not sure if he is going to be worth it FPL wise. One for the watchlist tho.

who'd you say is more assured of a start.. evans or lindegaard? want just one.. with jones fit again i'm worried about evans. if i go for evans and he loses his place lindy'll prob be far out of reach by then. so as Silence mentioned above, i can stack up on utd attackers whenever required.. the guy i knock off will be for brown/mignolet

      Silly.

Aguero is always more likely to score better than Dzeko. Forget Home/Away record nonsense.
