The ScoutCast – Episode 69 – Bye Bye Baby

With a stork delivery just around the corner, I drag Mark, nappies and all, into the studio for one more ScoutCast before the little time thief bundle arrives.

Keeping my distance, despite getting over the worst of my stinker that had me bed-ridden last week, I find time to lament my latest “miffed”, torment Mark about his belated sale of Victor Moses and gloat just a little about closing the mini-league gap via Clint Dempsey’s haul.

The regulars are all present and partially correct, delivered in husky tones, fuelled by Lemsip. Other cold cures are available. Other chaotic Fantasy Football podcasts aren’t.

About the only thing he did right all day. I was at the game and he was absolutely terrible - both lazy and wasteful taking stupid pot-shots from well off target and not really making any runs. I'm selling him for a punt on Dzeko.

    Incase anyone missed it yesterday......

    Cheap Defenders Overview

Senderos- Priced at £4.3m the Swiss looks like a bargain given Fulham’s kind run of fixtures. He seems to be more nailed on than his Fulham companion Stephen Kelly(£3.9m) and shows attacking potential from set-pieces.
    Next 6- WBA(H),MC(A),STO(H),QPR(A),WOL(H),AV(A).

Taiwo- The Nigerian defender on loan for the rest of the season has arrived at a price of £4.5m and shows more attacking potential that most full-backs. But he faces competition from A.Traore(£5.5m) for the Left-Back spot. With QPR also recruiting Onuoha(£4.6m) and possibly Blackburn rebel Samba(£5.4m) the QPR defence is uncertain.
    Next 6- AV(A),WOL(H),BLA(A),FUL(H),EVE(H),BOL(A).

Caulker- Swansea man Steven Caulker has caught the eye after returing from injury at only £3.9m,later rising to £4.0m. Caulker has played all 90 minutes in the Swans last 8 games except from the Spurs game in which he was Ineligible. The only risk is that many Fantasy Managers won’t want to double up on Swansea defence with both Caulker and Vorm(£5.2) during a difficult time fixture wise for the Swans.
    Next 6- CHE(H),WBA(A),NOR(H),STO(A),WIG(A),MC(H).

Santon- The Italian has managed to do the unthinkable and keep set-piece dangerman Ryan Taylor(£5.4m) out of the side. Santon has also look dangerous with his overlapping runs from the left and has assist potential and with Simpson now at £4.4m many have swiched to the Italian to save that £0.2m.
    Next 6- BLA(A),AV(H),TOT(A),WOL(H),SUN(H),ARS(A).

McAuley- Showing some decent performances during the winter period, including the Clean Sheet at home to Man City McAuley has shown his true potential. Priced at £4.1m and somedecent fixtures coming up he’s certainly one to consider.
    Next 6- FUL(A),SWA(H),WOL(A),SUN(H),CHE(H),MU(A).

Shotton- After Jermain Pennant falling out with Tony Pulis the Defender has played on the Wing for a few games and also played at Right-Back. With the defender having good home fixtures coming up and being able to play in many different positions he provides a cheap way into the Stoke defence.
    Next 6- MU(A),SUN(H),FUL(A),SWA(H),NOR(H),CHE(A).

J.Evans- After the recent injury crisis the United man has become a key figure in the United backline. The Northern-Irishman is set to keep his place in the long term with Vidic out for the rest of he season and Ferdinand(£6.4m) and Jones(£6.5m) both doubtful. Priced at £4.5m you can't go wrong with United coverage for that small price.
    Next 6-STO(H),CHE(A),LIV(H),NOR(A),TOT(A),WBA(H).

Clark- Clark has come into the spotlight after playing the last few games. He has become more involved in play and picked up an Assist and Bonus Point in the Villa vs Wolves game. He's set to keep his place in midfield after injuries to Delph,Jenas and Herd and keeping Bannan(£4.5) out of the side.
    Next 6- QPR(H),NEW(A),MC(H),WIG(A),BLA(A),FUL(H).

Brown- One of the many former United players at Sunderland, Brown has been a reliable source at the back for O'Niell's side. Picking up a suprising goal at Loftus Road when many had benched him was fustrating for Fantasy Managers but with O'Niell taking over from Bruce Brown is certain to keep his place.
    Next 6- NOR(H),STO(A),ARS(H),WBA(A),NEW(A),LIV(A).

Ward- The Irishman, know as more of a Winger than a defender has given out two 10 point hauls this season, against Blackburn and Wigan respectively. Wolves have leaked in 40 goals so far this season, despite the arrival of Roger Johnson. He has also featured in EVERY MINUTE of Wolves games this season.
    Next 6- LIV(H),QPR(A),WBA(H),NEW(A),FUL(A),BLA(H).

Need help with my front 8. I was thinking of having: Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sessegnon, Valencia, Aguero, RVP and Ba, but that would make it difficult to bench a player each week. So would you suggest replacing maybe Sessegnon, Dempsey or Ba with a cheapie to make it easier when picking my starting XI?

    Silva--Valencia--Dempsey--Sessegnon--Ox
    RVP--Aguero--Ba

Does anyone have any updates on Cleverly? Will he play again this season? With Nani, Young, and even Jones, out at mid, one would think that Cleverly, if close to fit, would be pushed along a little faster?

Or should we expect him for next August, instead?

So what to do with Rooney? Would be taking a hit to get rid of him. I was more than likely going to do it next week anyway so my question is should I just take him out now for a 4 pointer or wait until next week even tho he might not play this week?

Brought in Lindegaard for Hennessey. (I know stupid GK trade lol)

Ade would probably be the only person i would bring in for a hit.

Yeh I shouldnt have had to tho. 2 weeks after wildcarding a GK trade is the last thing you want lol. I think Ill still start Rooney in case he does play. You think I should play Brown ahead of Pinkington?

I like Pilks as a player but Brown can get you points at both ends so with a home game id go with him.

Its a good team mate, RVP, Aguero, Sess, Arfa, Valencia all capable of stormers.
Sure it went wrong last week but you were unlucky with the captain and RVP and Aguero should have scored two each.
Dempsey and Bale look like must haves to me (Dempsey for his fixtures and goal threat and Bale cos he's unstoppable) so I'd look at ways to get them in.
Finance it by swapping Fletch for a cheap benchable fwd - Danny graham for me.

Anyone reckon I should take a crazy punt on Cisse?

Haven't seen him play but have heard good stuff about him, will take Sturridge out because Chelsea have been poor lately.

Could be a good alternative to Ba, right?

Just remember that thi site has shouted the praises of Boselli, Kolarov, Taraabt, Moses, etc. If you listened, you probably finished in the bottom 10%. Wait until he plays a few games before considering getting him in.

may draft the Huthinator into my team on wc, then again I may not. The Ox. may not get minutes, especially once Gervinho is back. Was tempted by a 1 week punt on him vs Bolton, but I may just go for Park instead.

Cisse? For me there are better options, Zamora. Ba. Keane.

I think he could really hurt Bolton IF he plays but it's a mighty big if, and I don''t see him keeping his place on Gervinho is back. Plus Park at home to Stoke is just so damn appealing and I don't see the value of either in a wc team.

Thoughts on on Nani ➡ Park for 1 GW only? Seems nailed on with Nani and Young out, and seems to perform well vs lower teams at home when he starts.

Park actually performs better against stronger teams.. SAF mainly uses him as impact player.. But as you say, with Nani and Young sidelined, he may get a start...

I also think United coverage vs Stoke is essential, and with Giggs unlikely to start and Valencia coming into my wc team only people worth taking a punt on could be Carrick, Scholes, Park and Welbeck

I don't know about the individual fan, but there's no smoke without fire and the repeated investigations of chanting at Anfield and the Bridge make it fairly clear to me that a significant minority of the Pool and Chelsea crowd have an 'issue'

Based on what? The actions of less than maybe 10 fans from both clubs? Football fans represent society and its 'issues'. There's no way fans of a particular club can realistically be considered more likely to be racist that fans of another purely by virtue of supporting that club.

Purely by virtue of supporting their club - no.

Based on what they actually do - yes.

Otherwise you could be in a position where racist behaviour is rampant and you'd be forced to insist that supported club is unrelated to racist behaviour, as some universal fundamental law, when you should really be looking at the evidence.

A minority of Italian fans are notorious for racist abuse (monkey chants, throwing bananas and the like) towards black players. This is generally unheard of in Britain. So yes, whether it pisses Italians off, I will draw the conclusion they are more likely to be racist to black players.
