The ScoutCast – Episode 69 – Bye Bye Baby

With a stork delivery just around the corner, I drag Mark, nappies and all, into the studio for one more ScoutCast before the little time thief bundle arrives.

Keeping my distance, despite getting over the worst of my stinker that had me bed-ridden last week, I find time to lament my latest “miffed”, torment Mark about his belated sale of Victor Moses and gloat just a little about closing the mini-league gap via Clint Dempsey’s haul.

The regulars are all present and partially correct, delivered in husky tones, fuelled by Lemsip. Other cold cures are available. Other chaotic Fantasy Football podcasts aren’t.

Was gunna do Roon>Aguero + Mata>Silver next week regardless of Roon's injury update, so is it worth getting Aguero this week??

Aguero has been 'rotated' once this season.
Sturridge almost never plays 90 minutes, Bellamy has never started more than 1 game in a row and Welbeck could always be rotated with Hernandez and Berbatov waiting.. I don't see your point there.

Anyone fancy a cheeky punt on Koscielny for say 2 weeks? 1 mil cheaper than Verm.

Up there for goal attempts in the last 6 weeks, defending stats are good as well. Generally, when I see him, he's excellent on the ball. Makes me feel like he should play in DM.

    current defenders--which would you replace?
    Smalling, Kompany, Enrique, Simpson, Caulker

I'm planning to transfer out Smalling after this GW; possible replacements: Senderos, Clark, Brown, Taiwo.

Which others might you replace? Keep Enrique or remove (tough fixtures, but major price rise, from 5.0-->6.0). Also, keep Simpson or replace him?; also have Krul as a GK.

Winter Wildcard--keeping all for this week (GW 23); planning for after this week

Smalling out because Utd.'s the fixtures get much tougher; Simpson possibly because already have Newcastle GK; Enrique--probably will keep, but may bench for almost a month

what are your thoughts on how I should alter my DF with the Winter Wildcard? Thanks!

Fulham and Stoke both have nice fixtures and rotate well with each other, if you think they will keep clean sheets then invest in them.
Keep Kompany and Simpson, and if you can field a decent 3 at the back until GW29 (or whenever Liverpool have a good run) then you can afford to keep Enrique too.

what's the point of selling Enrique?
Liv just have tough 3 GWs, in this period we can use other defenders to rotate, that's the reason we have 5 defenders.
5M for Liv Defence is actually a bargain! especially when ManU, Spurs also have tough fixtures coming like Liv. He's done well for me in long term overall til now

thanks both for the input; think I'll keep Enrique, but bench for a number of weeks; the significant gain (from 5.0 near beginning of season to 6.0 now) and overall good defence are pluses

he only has 3 tough games coming. you can change him to another, but you cant sure the replace one can keep CS in those 3 games.

but who can replace him in that fixtures?
apart from ManC def (I'll get them but not by selling Joes), cant see the good candiate at this price

            Cahill unclear
            Kos? never trust Arsenal def
            BAE? even tougher fixtures
ManU? tough too, but Evans very cheap and we dont need to downgrade Jose if want to buy Evans.
Huth? risk. I'd rather keep Joes for long term

              Never trust Arsenal defense 🙄
They have kept 1 less clean sheet than Liverpool this season, and that's without Vermaelen and Sagna for most of the season, aswell as Song missing in our worst games (Blackburn and United)

You're right, there isn't much choice right now because the fixtures are a mess, if you are happy keeping 5m Enrique on your bench for the next 3/4 games go for it, but your other defenders might also struggle for the same reason. Either get a City def - I'd get Richards - or maybe look at Arsenal for next two fixtures (bol BLA) - Verm looks really tempting for then. Not a brilliant defence but okay against lesser opposition.

Mmmm replacing BAE makes it less of a benefit. He has a great match home to Wigan this week, the same week Kos has Bolton, and Spurs have an okay home game to Newcastle two weeks later when Arsenal have a tougher fixture (away to Sunderland). Replace Enrique if you can or just stick with him.

Why do people think Shotton isn't a good pick? yes, he may be abject to rotation a couple of times, but he's so cheap and a cheap entry into the stoke defense plus, he's OOP and has played more than 75 minutes in 6 of the last 8 matches one of which he was injured.

Yeah I know, choosing stats to make my side look stronger like you did when you failed to mention Kompany (who I assume is the defender with 6/17 clean sheets) did not play against Wigan where that kept a clean sheet so it would be seven CS, or 5 in the last 7 you could say, compared to Stokes 2 in 7.

Mine is simple, a 4.1 million defender playing for a team capable of getting CS who rotates awesomely with another 3.9 million defender = Win, I'm not expecting miracles from him, just a couple of CS all over, plus who are the alternatives? SWA? terrible fixtures, NEW? got simpson, SUN as bad as STO.

Shotton is in the top 3 players I haven't had yet this season - his OOP and price makes him very attractive, but the actual benefits he gets from being OOP are debatable - few attacking points to now. Also, outside that, the main selling point is coverage in the Stoke defence, more specifically the home Stoke defence. They've done ok this season but NEW, SWA, FUL and SUN have managed at least as many home CS at the same price. Added to the odd game he doesn't play, it's hard to gain.

Well, FUL/STO rotation is awesome as Udit says so Kelly/Shotton could be a winner .... or just asking to have them both dropped! It depends which other defenders you have but for security I would prefer Williamson, Caulker or just bothering to spend a little more to get Brown or Senderos. Reason being that you only need to be dropped a couple of times a season to make the points lost too high for the price saving.

I'd hit that! Personally I would take Shotton/Santon as the rotation is still good and I believe in their CS a bit more than Fulham. I think Santon is nailed on for the season now - and he gets forward to cross on the left a LOT.

I looked into this.... NEW and SUN technically rotate perfectly as in you will always have a home game. The actual fixtures are almost as good as several other alternatives including STO and FUL. I think both the former defences will continue to improve (Tiote back and MO'N effect) unsure about the latter two.

Depressing. I've always thought one of the benefits of FFS is that because people only care about their team's points, they are forced to look at players only through their performances. Generally you find during and after matches people go very tribal, then by the evening it's usually back to normal.

Was going to shift Rooney to Kun next week, is it worth a hit to do it earlier? Means I can get Kompany in next week without a hit, but with Cabaye as first sub it could be a waste?

the game is becoming more boring.
after the Big FIVE Midfiled Saga (Silver, Christian Bale, Captain America, Ecuadorian, Sexygnon), now the little difference between Nani # Silva, Rooney # Aguero also dissapearing!

at least in our mini leagues.
After the appear of FANTASTIC FIVE in Midfiled, i see it's harder to catch the leaders. Now Rooney, Nani out of favor too. that's end!

starting the right players and choosing captain correctly will be key then and if you do so and your opponents do not then you can still catch them.

If Nani, Jones and Rooney are out, FPL managers everywhere will kneejerk them for similarly priced options ranked highest in the overall rankings / nice fixture this week / in last week's dream team etc.

So I reckon there'll be some big transfers in for
    Kompany, BAE, Richards
    Silva (massive!), Dempsey, Valencia
    Aguero, RVP, Ade

    Profit.
Also, if United are missing those big guns, I expect a more defensive performance to grind out the victory. Evans is a good player to have this GW. Jones out makes him nailed on (even though he virtually is anyway).

I'm expecting a Stoke victory at OT honestly. Stoke are solid and organized vs Top 6 oppositions. 1 goal at max, imo. Btw you reckon Evans will be preferred over Rio if Smalling plays at CB & Rafael at RB?

Firstly it's pretty unclear whether Rio will be available, he does seem right touch and go of late. But if he is, I do reckon Evans will keep his spot. Ferguson has shown faith in him and started him a lot when available since Vidic got merked. His performances have improved too. He's young and his time is now.
