The ScoutCast – Episode Seventy Six – Preparation D

Hitting the airwaves early this week, the ScoutCast makes a return to the fray with preparations for the double fixtures still using up our headspace. Mark and I rinse through the latest permutations of Gameweek 36, almost exhausted by the tactical nuances on offer. It’s almost too much for a Tuesday afternoon.

Of course, the podcast regulars rear their head and I do my upmost to keep my chin up despite the mini-league gap: Mark tries desperately not to gloat and fails as always. You never know – maybe all those eggs he’s put in the basket of Gameweek 36 are destined to be scrambled.

Any way of squeezing Walcott in @home to a weakened Chelsea? Also, Turner away to Villa or Caulker away to Bolton?

    Given
    Turner Evans Enrique
    Valencia Siggy Lennon Petrov
    Aguero RVP Rooney

    Subs: Bogdan Walcott Baines Caulker

      Lennon?! I love it.
Valencia or Walcott is the judgement call for many - I'd be tempted by Theo over Valencia.

Ha, just brought Petrov in, so will be playing him. Bolton are one of the teams still very much fighting for something.

Think I'm going to bench Lennon. Cheers lads.

Yeah, I'd play Walcott over Lennon. In fact, I did a double take when I saw his name, as he's not in many people's teams just now.

Think he'll get game time at the end of the season... nice differential if he shows form. Looking to pair with VDV for the DGW (surely one will play ;-)).

Tempted to bench Valencia, but knowing how organised Everton are, it may require Valencia to break them down. Hmmm.

Chelsea were lucky not to concede but nevertheless as I'm sure you know their defence has improved massively since AVB left. Two lines of 4 (or 4 & 5 for Barcelona 😉 ) hold the centre, squeeze them out onto the flanks.

I was mulling these moves before the match but now I'm seriously tempted. G Cahill in for the DGW (will he start both matches?). Walcott plays Chelsea next and you have to think if they can stifle Barca's wingers they can stifle him. Thinking of him out for Barfa...?

BTW, considering Dempsey for DGW but not for the Wigan match, I think it's about time we learned haha... also, the unthinkable is possible. RVP out for Tevez/Aguero.

I liked that the 'master tactic' was: set up shop, long ball to drogba. Half of the time, Drogba was too busy checking to see if he was wet, the big baby...

Yep standard! "Holding the ball up". The match stats were ludicrously in Barcelona's favour, not just fancy possession but product - 25 shots against 4 and 15 shots on target against 2. Chelsea just did everything within their power and got the rub of the green. They need everything to go right for them again in the second leg and that's unlikely to repeat. The Barca side has grown - compare the stats with the 0-0 and 1-1 draws in 2009. Much improved.

Yeah, but Barcelona can be so frustrating...one week they're absolutely thrashing people and the next they're not taking any chances anywhere past five yards out...ridiculous. SHOOT THE DAMN BALL FABREGAS/INIESTA/XAVI!!

That's what I mean by the rub of their green. Their finishing was awful. Should have scored 3 or 4 at least. It was reminiscent of Arsenal at their worst.

ok, I got tired before. Really don't see the point in analysing DGW defenders, keepers one was a waste of time.

    DGW defenders to consider

    Baines, Huth, BAE, Kaboul, Skrtel.

Mids and Forwards to come tomorrow.

        you asked, I deliver.

Re: our keeper discussion. I actually agree after tonight, Cech is the best option. However, with my other transfer plans i am 0.2 short of him.

Friedel is at least playable in 37 as is not bad alternative.

as well as chelsea have done recently I honestly can't see them keeping it up. would avoid getting any of their players due to rotation and fatigue

tough game vs spurs followed by a rewarding but exhausting game defending barca for 90 minutes (72% possession for barca). then they've got a tough game vs spurs followed by an even tougher game vs barca in the camp nou. then qpr followed by a newcastle team that should be fighting for 4th place and then FA cup final vs pool.

If Adebayor scores this weekend, is he the best DGW striker to have?

I think Adebayor has the best dgw games, whether he will be the best dgw striker who knows.

I play the fixtures, so I will be getting him nd not regretting it.

Is Dempsey a good enough captain option this week with wigans form? Or safer to get tevez for captain for a hit?

what to do with this team, 0.7m in bank 2 transfers

    krul (vorm)
    verm, evans, santon (turner, caulker)
    dempsey, walcott, valenica, sess (mclean)
    rvp, rooney, cisse

was thinking of getting some dgw players in this week and 1 or 2 more next week, however city really have a great fixture this weekend and want siggy in for sess but then that means no players in this week for the dgw next week..

    any ideas please

I was considering downgrading Walcott or Valencia for HBA or Petrov and then doing Adebayor > Tevez (C).

        Would that be worth it?

I would be wary of Tevez being rested or lightly played this week as it is "only Wolves". He will certainly be in the team to face United, but you have a WC anyway so you could always bring him in then.

I don't think a hit is necessary but I do quite like the petrov tevez combo as differentials for just this week. Not big on Bolton though but they are chasing points and could do alright this week.

    Krul
    Turner - Verm - JEvans
Demps - Nani (Vc) - Ryo - Siggy
    Cisse - RvP - Tevez (C)

Subs: Vorm - Wally - Caulker - Kaboul

After reading Hennessey is out was thinking RvP for Aguero, but not sure. What are your thoughst on this and my teams/subs. Cheers guys!

I have 2.2 in the bank.

Seeing he was on the bench and I'm trailing in my minileague is it worth the risk taking a four point hit to bring in Torres for the DGW? (have cisse, ade, piennar, demps, bale)

I'm thinking this exact same thing. With Drogba's clear superiority at the moment I am sure they will save him for the big games. This however leaves another, arguably more important question that you need to answer before bringing in Torres......

      Will he score??????

HA torres.... theres a reason he stayed on the bench the whole game mate!

would sooner take a punt on vdv, hba, baines, even terry cashley drogs ramires or cahill than torres!

Looking for opinions on Tevez/Kun points wise as bringing one of them in.

Does Kun play further up front than Tevez?
Who is on pens out of those 2?
Are they both likey to get same amount of game time?

Newcastle have been getting results they've no right to, given the way they've been playing. Maybe just Krul as it's possible Ben Arfa won't start away at Spurs. Seems Pardew has more faith in him now, but still a slight risk for away games.
