Euro 2012

Captain Poll – Matchday Three – Day One

It’s time to wipe the slate clean and start afresh with our captaincy options once again, as Fantasy managers ready themselves for the final round of group matches to begin tomorrow evening. With all four sides standing a chance of progressing to the last eight, defence is not an option for either of the quartet – now is the time to go on the front foot and, with no clean sheets in any of the Group A games thus far, Fantasy expectations will be high:

Current group leaders Russia square up to Greece, with Alan Dzagoev offering the main goal threat. The 7.8 priced midfielder has notched three times already, though Andrei Arshavin’s trio of assists has helped the Arsenal man to 13 points in the McDonald’s game. Roman Shirokov’s attacking menace from the midfield three could well play a part, while Aleksandr Kerzhakov may face a battle to hold down a first-team place after missing 11 chances over his two appearances – Roman Pavlyuchenko is waiting in the wings to replace him.

The Greeks are trickier to predict. Only one player – Giorgos Samaras – has started up front in their two matches so far, with Theofanis Gekas and Dimitrios Salpingidis grabbing goals against Czech Republic and Poland respectively after climbing off the bench. Konstantinos Mitroglou was afforded a 19 minute sub role against the Czechs but could earn a call-up to the starting XI as Santos reassesses his forward options.

Poland’s remit tomorrow night is simple – win against the Czech Republic and they are through. Skipper Jakub Blaszczykowski has had a hand in both his side’s goals so far, providing an assist against Greece before notching the crucial equaliser in the match with Russia – he looks set to be inspirational once more for Franciszek Smuda’s side. Robert Lewandowski’s threat up front will also be crucial, while Ludovic Obraniak’s creativity and set-piece duties have seen him provide plenty of opportunities for his team mates.

The Czech Republic will be hoping Vaclav Pilar can continue his goalscoring streak in their crucial clash with the co-hosts. The midfielder has notched in both his side’s opening two games and, priced at just 5.1, has proven to be a cut-price gem for Fantasy managers. Petr Jiracek’s move to a right wing role against Greece last time out saw him grab the opener and, with Tomas Rosicky still a doubt due to an Achilles problem, the creativity of Jaroslav Plasil looks more key than ever. Up front, Milan Baros is likely to lead the line and will be keen to pick up in performance after a disappointing couple of games so far.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I think he should, as he hasn't done anything wrong. Coach said that he will make a decision on Saturday though, would you be around for when the lineups are out?

      Few things to think of:
Szech may not get his spot back
Few better 4m defenders than a Greek v Russia - eg Strinic? whilst Swedes are out and may look to give squad players a game.
      Will Barzagli defo start
Fab or Walcott not certain of a start -
Suggest look at French players v doomed Swedes & nailed on Italians v Eire.

Wouldn't say he was underrated Dunny, 49 goals in 167 games for Barca, 12 goals in 62 games for Real, played 102 games for Juve and 104 caps for Denmark. According to wikipedia this is his stats as a manager:

        Brøndby - 76w 31d 25l
        Getafe - 25w 15d 19l
        Spartak Moscow 4w 4d 6l

Order of Extreme Valour - FFS Euro 2012 - Matchday 2 Award

(READ THIS FIRST: THIS IS THE AWARD FOR PLAYERS OF FFS EURO 2012 ONLY AND DOES NOT INCLUDE PEOPLE FROM THE FRIENDLY WORLD CUP! THERE WILL BE A SEPARATE AWARD FOR THAT. THANK YOU.)

In a week when much maligned, managerless strikers (Bendtner, Torres, Carroll) scored and only 4 clensheets occured, this Matchday's bravest successful selections hailed from the midfield. Courageous picks such as Coentrao and Welbeck weren't too far away in the end, but the expected superiority of their sides over their opposition ultimately held them back.

I judged the award by the rules posted here.
    http://uefaffs.weebly.com/7/post/2012/06/the-order-of-extreme-valour.html
    To recap:

A “successful gamble” is defined as a single player choice that returns an unexpectedly high number of points. The awards will be given on these criteria:
    - Underappreciation
    - Overachievement
    - Underdog team
    - Captaincy

Honourable Mentions- A couple of decisions which were worthy of note if not the award:

    - ENR and last week's winner, Ginkapo, both chose popular Italian playmaker, Pirlo, but followed it up by handing him the captain's armband. The midfield maestro lived up to their expectations and brought home 8 points with his deftly executed freekick.
-Ginkapo showed real steel, backing Krohn-Dehli to deliver for a second week in a row. His 5 point haul validated Ginkapo's decision and earned his manager his second honourable mention of this Matchday.

    And now for the winner:

Only 2 people saw the potential of the Polish captain against Matchday 1's rampaging Russians. Only 1 of those showed the valour to hand the armband to Kuba and he was rewarded by a sweet left shot into the Russian net. This courageous owner then turned down the option of switching to favourites such as Robben, Iniesta and Ribery.. This pick ticks all of the boxes and it is my pleasure to announce that this week's "Order of Extreme Valour" Award winner is the one and only Mark.

Sincere thanks to all managers who had a valiant go and tried to be original this Matchday. I would also like to move to quash any rumours that an offer of free FFS membership for next season in anyway influenced my decision. There has been no such offer ( although one would be appreciated 😉 ).

Stay tuned for our Day 1 Report and preview of Day 2!

No, extremely unlikely. Who would come in? As close to nailed on as there is offensively along with Gerrard and probably rooney.

Nope. Lack of options (Downing) and even so I reckon like Walcott/Ox may be used as impact players.

The only change I expect Hodgson to make would be Rooney for Carroll.

He was awful tonight your right but he is a shoe in on the left when fit. In terms of ff though I wouldn't want him at 8.5 when in a wide position, he only justifies the pricetag when playing just off the striker imo. Carroll or welbeck will have to make way but both had by far their best games in an England shirt tonight and scored, tougher decision than I'd have thought before k.o.

What you guys think about these bets for tomorrow?
Poland to win and Lewandowski to score any time 3/1.
    Obraniak to score 1st 10/1.
Poland to come from behind and win 10/1.

I like the other 2 actually, decent punts at 10's. Is check William hill on the highstreet if there's one near you for wincasts, doing enhanced odds on one every game tonight was nasri and France 6/1

    Current team: (0.3 in bank)

    Anderson/Chalkias
Lescott, Debuchy, G Selassi, bonucci, maniatis
    Iniesta, Fabregas, Dzagoev, Shirokov, Mandzukic
    CR7, Lewandowski, Benzema

How best to use my free transfer?

CR7 -> Rooney (but leaves me no group B captain)
    Fab -> Pirlo
    Iniesta -> Sneijder
    Chalkias -> Tyton (waste?)

I don't think he would Gomez does very little running so he shouldn't be too tired.
Plus Loew will want to keep his confidence up few goals on Denmark would do that nicely.

I still think people should wait for first game lineups for one main reason - Pavlyuchenko! If he starts, he will tear Greece a new one. In your case, Pavs for Torres(Croatia not the easiest and he is still a risk). This will gain you .9 -

Would also watch for Russia Defense - Greece will be playing every forward they have and dont see a shutout here. Czech D looked solid last game(except for Cechs dropped ball which led to goal, so I think Gebre Selassie is a good option - that gives you anther 1.0 and allows you to hedge with Kuba. Speaking of Kuba - Obraniak looked dangerous last game and is higher odds to score - dont think Poland will score, but either way - Obraniak will cost you 1.0 less and so now you are up to 2.9.

Upgrade anderson to Buffon for a certain clean sheet and now to are still up by .4 - Would rather have Libersky and double up on czech defence(only costs 4.0 and plays defensive mid - can get cleanie and RB's) instead of maniatis who will get dogged by Russia. and now change pilar(He wont score 3 games in a row) - change him for a 4.0 or 4.5 starter and upgrade Nasri to Ribery.

      IMO

    England's team against Ukraine?

    ..................Welbeck
    ...................Rooney
    Young...Gerrard...Parker....Milner
    Cole....Terry....Lescott.....Johnson
    ...................Hart

Obviously the biggest battles are Milner v Walcott and Welbeck v Carroll. I really do hope Roy goes on the offensive against Ukraine because they are a defensive disaster waiting to happen and their wingers are too skilful to let them run at us - so why not play the game that exposes their weaknesses and utilizes our (modest) strengths? That said, realistically I think Roy will go for Milner precisely with the intent of marking Konoplyanka.

I do think there is a question mark over playing Parker because I think he provided almost no screening to the back four today. I like his work ethic, but he was completely eaten up by superior pace and skill. The problem is that we have no realistic options for a defensive midfielder. There is only one person even remotely close - Henderson - and even he doesn't really have the skillset, and is too raw.

I suggest utilizing Milner's workrate and defensive strength in place of Parker.
