The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Five – Kolarluv

Aleks Kolarov is a legend around these parts. Two seasons ago I backed the Serbian to shine, only to be left eggy faced as he City man huffed and puffed without impact. Now he’s back and this time it’s personal.

Having crashed the party with a 20-point haul in his last Etihad encounter, Kolarov is being lined up for a start this weekend and even Granville’s taking notice. Having ridiculed my affections for the player and gloried in his failings, the Mancunian has got himself a crush and he’s struggling to fight it off.

This week’s ScoutCast features a lot of Kolarlove, along with the supporting cast of regulars as Granville steals a mini-league march and starts to sound cocky.

Listen in on the Serbian swooning via this link, or stream the episode via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      keep Iva, Yes get Ba or may be defoe. To get more money there a lot of players you can get Sell RVP for Rooney or sell Tevez for defoe or sell Cazorla for Nolan. Try not take a hit. Your team is okay already.

      Nasri. Yaya.

      Can't you find the extra dosh to get Mata? Downgrade McLean to a dirt-cheap mid.

        Nasri is not a bad punt for now. He is City's best attacking midfielder at the moment. If you have a plan for upgrading him later he is a good splash IMO.

      Does price matter on the scout picks? Didnt think they worked it out, thought they just picked the players who they think will do best for the week regardless of price.......

      Anyway, cant see Sterling being in the scout picks this week but the others look likely

      Pretty much agree with above. Long experience says that he will roduce more consistently than Roon. There will be weeks that drive you crazy, but RVP will be more involved imho. The "value" question must depend on your overall team. I am happy to keep RVP because I can still have a decent team with him.

          Talking about the bunt? Very jammy. The Giants have been jammy throughout. I am a cards fan, but once I got over my disappointment I find myself wanting the Giants to win the WS. Go figure. Btw, I like atmosphere, but I DON'T like pasting on new atmosphere that was never there when I was watching baseball growng up.

          I normally go with the one that tops the poll. However there a false leader this week.
          If the poll had started after the champions league games then Carzola would not even be in the top three
          It would be Bale Ba and Tevez fighting it out

    Getting slightly ahead of myself, but with 0.0m in my bank I may need to make my transer next week tomorrow evening. So, at the moment, which looks the better play (FOR NEXT WEEK):

    a) Save the tranfer
    b) Michu -> Taraabt/Morrisson
    c) Jaask -> Begovic
    d) Hughes -> Wilson
    e) Clyne -> Nelson

    Jaask, Federici
    Baines, Cuellar, Hughes, McCartney, Clyne
    Bale, Santi, Mata, Michu, Guthrie
    RVP, Ba, Berbatov
    Bank 0.0m

        The thing is that I love chocolate milk; I just never imagined it could be positioned as a health product. As for work, I usually work (and live) in the UK, where I never saw an ad like this. I think it takes North America to brand a sweet/fat treat as the equivalent of Gatorade! (I am originally from the US for fwiw).

    I just finished the ScoutCast. Some food for thought on Santi. I took a 4 point hit myself to get him in last week so I have to be patient this week, especially with QPR at home.

    But another bad Arsenal offensive showing and I will surely have to reconsider.

      Suarez this week has the greatest variance of potential scores than any other player - he can get sent off for biting someone's ear or score a hatrick. I wouldn't want him on my team.

    Fletcher vs Ba Analysis

    Some interesting results:

    They share a goal/game rate of 0.8. Ba has twice as many Chances per game but Fletcher's Shot Accuracy and Conversion Rate are almost double and more than double (respectively) that of Ba's.

    Fletcher's lone striker role seems to favour him as he is involved in 83% of Sunderland's Goals vs 67% for Ba.

    Ba gets far more chances as a Newcastle player, but he does less with them than Fletcher.

    I do not believe that we are likely to see a radical change in the shooting accuracy of either player, meaning that the key levers in terms of goal output going forward are likely to be Chances Created / Involvement.

    Ba has easier fixtures so you would expect Newcastle to create more chances and more goals. Sunderland have tougher (though not that much tougher) fixtures so you might expect their chances to lessen (if that's even possible!). However, if Sunderland do improve their chances created, this is likely to have a more direct and more amplifying impact on Fletcher's goal returns than any such improvement for Newcastle would on Ba's.

    So the key question for anyone making this comparison is; do you expect the number of chances Newcastle will create will outstrip those of Sunderland by the substantial amount necessary to push Ba ahead of Fletcher?

    I honestly feel it's too close to call, but I feel Fletcher's price and underlying stats make him the better value and more reliable option for the long term.

      Fletcher was never gonna maintain his early season strike rate. On Average strikes will score 1 goal for every 3 shots on target. Sunderland will not create enough chances for Fletcher to out score Ba over the long term.Short term Ba also has much better fixtures and more creative players around him so I don't even think they will be close in score come christmas.

      Good post Dufflinks. The other way of looking at the same data is that Ba has more 'room for improvement' in terms of his current conversion rate (or, conversely, that Fletcher's current conversion rate is unsustainable). On this basis, and if you assume that the chances created for each team are going to remain similar, then the natural conlusion is that Ba has more 'upside'.

    team for gw9

    Bego

    Baines, Ivanovic, Hughes

    Bale, Mata, Santi, Sterling

    Berba, Ba(c), Tevez(vc)

    Jassi, Ridgewell, Davies, Pienaar

    The current plan is to save the FT and then do Ivanovic and Berba -> Rooney and Nelsen. I'm open to other suggestions if you guys can see a better option.
