The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Six – Ghost Ship

Ghost Ship – a Fantasy Football team picked for the first Gameweek and then left to drift without a crew or rudder for the rest of the season. It would stand to reason that such a vessel would hit the rocks and sink without trace. Sometimes, however, they can navigate an unlikely route to glory.

Tell us about. This latest episode is a timely one given the time of year and it’s a “Ghost Ship” lineup, “managed” by the most unlikely member of the team to be up amongst the top ranks that takes up a good proportion of our time, leaving Granville and myself pondering the meaning of it all.

Around all that, we both manage to find the motivation to bring you the regular topics with the concept of “chasing points” coming under discussion, alongside “all aboard”, the weekend preview and a long tale of Granville’s injury list. Ouch.

      I'm not sure about that myself. I'm backing Cazorla to do well. I think Bale has great potential this week though, i couldn't decide sorry.

    Lampard is pretty much a bench warmer this season. And for that reason i can't justify doing Hazard > Mata while he's going to be on pens throughout the season. Just hope Hazard becomes abit less greedy and takes more shots on goal in future matches. Don't think Mata is superior to him at all despite the small price difference.

      At their most disparate points - Mata was down to 8.8M and Hazard was 10.3M. I think most people would agree Hazard is capable of more explosive scores, but with Mata's FPL experience from last season a clear indicator of his future success [6 goals and 16 assists!] and the fact that he was 1.5M cheaper - it seemed a very smart move to go with Mata - especially if you had realized the Hazard price rice from 9.5m to 10.3m and the first 3 gameweeks which brought 34 points...

      Both will do well, and yes Hazard will be on pens when Lampard is not on the pitch but Lampard is by no means a bench warmer and will still play more than 50% of league games - so Hazard will probably have 2-3 penalty goals and Lampard 2-3 this season.

          In their formation Ramires is the most likely. Lampard part of that "deeper" trio rather than the attacking trio. Oscar and Ramires are both young and while Ramires has great PL experience you could see Lampard rotating with one or both of those and still seeing plenty of league action.

      i think hazard is a better open-game fantasy scorer - like on the break or when another team is broken and getting a hammering. bit i reckon mata will score better in tight matches

        Yeah... i know what you're saying about his record mostly being from pens and therefore Lampard needs to be out of the picture completely for Hazard to become just as good or an even better option than Mata. Just feels so sideways atm, have to hope Mata doesn't keep getting these double figure halls.

          i think it was definitely a no-brainer a couple of weeks ago when mata was 9.0 and below, but yeah now he basically the price hazard started at so it's easier to stick.
          think it's early days to write lampard off yet, most of the games he's missed have been through injury so it's hard to tell. although he was benched for tottenham and arsenal so maybe he'll play the easier games

      I'm in your camp Demi but it's not easy holding Hazard and watching the Spaniard go crazy. Hazard away from home is a mystery too - he just doesn't appear to get any efforts on goal. Really odd. Everything crossed for a change in fortune at Swansea.

        When did you get in Hazard? I was fortunate enough to have him GW1 so realized the 0.8M increase from 9.5M - 10.3M and got those first 3 gameweeks which were by far his most prolific. If you have had Mata the whole time OR Hazard the whole time, of course I would suggest to keep the one you have at the current moment, though Mata's form and the 1M [now - used to be 1.5M] savings can't be ignored.

          Ibra, it's a tale of woe. I had Mata in the initial squad and inevitably did the naive thing and traded to Hazard from GW3 onwards. Didn't pay full dollar but now I'm paying a bigger price watching my gut instinct initial purchase embarrass my jerky, point chasing knee.

            It's OK. I had RVP and got rid before his "difficult" fixtures and am now looking to get back in though may wait until next week as content with Suarez-Tevez-Berbatov despite the obvious consistent, difficult lack of (C) option...

        Efforts on goal is definitely a worry, seems Mata has direct fk's too(and why wouldn't he). Mata seems more clinical/experienced infront of goal, which may explain why he's beating Hazard for efforts. Hazard does have some pieces and pens though, so there will be certain games where he gets double figures and Mata gets 2 pointers, but just hope it's often enough to justify his extra cost.

          I think Mata has corners and FK's on the right with Hazard taking them on the left - that's been the case with corners for sure. If Mata has monopoly on all direct FK's then that's another blow.

        I won't hold it against you that you have no City...they haven't been explosive offensively and too much rotation. I have been a happy Tevez owner at the end of each GW, but not at the start.

        Chelsea...that's a different question, but surely you can easily do Gerard >> Mata if push comes to shove.

    A tiny dilemma on my hand: Who to bench, Ben Arfa (liv), Pienaar (ful) or Michu (CHE)?

    Have Pienaar sitting at the moment. Liverpool have been rubbish at home, while Michu is OOP and at home. But, Ben Arfa hasn't exactly been firing on all cylinders, and Michu is playing Chelsea who tend to be solid defensively...

    So last week I transferred out RVP and Pienaar for Rooney and Mata. This week, I did Ivanovic and Rooney out for Sagna and RVP. I did it in a kind of a roundabout way but I think I have the three I should have now in Sagna, Mata and van Persie. Can't believe I actually sold van Persie. You should never take the captaincy off him never mind sell him! Haha.
