From The Physio

From the Physio – Gameweek 10

This week’s update, sees Dimitar Berbatov fall languidly, once again, firmly on the Scout’s physio plinth, landing a further body-blow to Fantasy Managers, this time squarely in the ribs.

Commenting after the Reading match Martin Jol confessed that Dimitar Berbatov received a pain-killing injection at half-time to facilitate his second half appearance:

“He needed an injection to play in the second half, and showed a lot of character. We need to have a look at it because maybe it’s broken, but it was very painful”

Fuelled with adrenaline from an enthralling encounter and with the character of his team in mind, this is perhaps a slight over-reaction from Jol, as it would be very unlikely, even reckless, for a medic to allow a player to carry on with a suspected, even moderately, fractured rib. To do so, risks further complications, indeed, a punctured lung form an awkward fall or a mis-placed elbow or knee would not be unusual during a football match of the intensity of the Premier League. Of course some football clubs are more ruthless than others, but, even so, a fractured rib would usually exhibit pain and swelling to such an extent that would render them unable to continue regardless of any interventions.

Additionally, it must also be noted that segments of the Thoracic Spine and the surrounding nerve and soft-tissue can often refer pain to present classic symptoms of a cracked rib, so too can a pneumothorax or respiratory muscle damage. These points cast further doubt on such a swift diagnosis before an x-ray could be administered.

On a final note, reports today suggest that Berbatov has the desire and appetite to continue playing until he is 40. The timing of this statement is interesting. Berbatov comes across as an introverted, sensitive soul and such sunny optimism is not usually the mind-set of a player in the middle of an injury. Anyway, if it were fractured and treated Berbatov would be sporting a fetching, compressive corset type garment to facilitate healing and, on recent form, surely this photograph would have found its way onto his Facebook page by now.

Personally, I feel Berbatov suffered a minor soft-tissue injury, which, in all likelihood, will be resolved by the weekend, which should see him grace the pitch at Craven Cottage, as Everton roll up, with the insouciant grace and style to which we have become accustomed.

    Bale - Mata - Hazard - Michu - Cazorla
    Teves - RVP

People with both Bale (WIG) and RVP (ARS), who are you captaining?

Captain poll says 42% RVP but I'm not as certain.
Arsenal will be desperate and determined to shut out their former striker.
Also, Wenger and the Arsenal defence should know RVP's game as well as some dirty tackles that could be on the agenda.

Bale is also in good form, playing at home and against a Wigan side that has conceded 7 goals in 3 away games.

    Still, I should captain RVP shouldn't I?

Sorry for reposting but I got lost on bottom of last page:
    My team
    Begovic Foster
    Rafael Baines Cuellar Hughes Demel
    Yaya Mata Caz Sterling HBA
    Berbatov Aguero Podolski

    0,5 in the bank.

Really want to get rid of Podolski, especially since that will guarantee that he will score at least once against Man.Utd, and getting in Rooney(and guarantee that he will NOT score). But am I stupid to not going for Bale in stead?

    So my options are:
A)Podolski and yaya out – Rooney and Gera (he plays in the hole right?) for a -4 hit.
B)Podolski out – Ba in, no hit.

I've got Beg and Jussi who rotate perfectly in terms of home/away till the end of the season.

The problem is that Jussi's next 5 home fixtures are Man City, Stoke, Chelsea, Pool, Everton which makes him almost useless for a while because I don't think there's much point in playing a Hammers defender/keeper away from home.

However, Beg's next 5 corresponding away fixtures are Nor, West Ham, Brom, Villa, Spurs and in the meantime he's got home fixtures against QPR, Fulham, Newc, Everton.

So I'm sticking with Begovic atm, largely because a CS is a rare event these days and there's no standout keeper.

If I was you, I'd stick with Begovic and look to bring in Jussi around GW 20 or so. Then the two of them should do nicely till the end of the season bar another candidate emerging.

Obviously this is all based on there being no decent premium option, no good mid price option like Vormn or Krul last season, and a CS being a pain in the arse to predict.

The rotation of these two home/away and maybe switching for a really tough fixture was always my plan and they've delivered 6 out of 9 possible CS. if you had them both from the start, you would have played the right keeper in 5 out of those 6 which not including save points, bonus points or points deducted for conceding loads would give you 38 points for your two budget keepers. Unfortunatly I got sucked into the De Gea value for the first two weeks.

I guess a good point to note also is that Begovic alone is on 37 points ATM and has played all last seasons top 4 in his opening 9 matches.

      Stick with him!!!

Begovic, Tremmel (should get me through to Jan wildcard)
Cameron, Baines, Cueller, Simpson, Gorkss (or Rafael, Zabaleta for Cameron, Baines)
    Mata, Hazard, Michu, Sterling, Pienaar

Looks solid team. I am on wildcard and have a very similar team. Have you got any cash in the bank? Mata & Hazard is maybe a bit much but could pay off. You could do Hazard to Bale and then upgrade Simpson to Evans or squeeze Tevez in?

Really dont like Spurs' run, so going to stay clear of Bale, although may go for Defoe over Ba if I lose my bottle on his injury and then quickly flip to Ba when fit.
Not a fan of the Tevez rotation risk in the long term - think Aguero will resume mantle as top dog in coming weeks.
Made too much money on Hazard to risk not being able to get him back in.

        Only 0.1 in the bank...

Try to get Bale & Rafael in IMO.

Simpson to Williamson should give you an extra 0.5.

Hazard to Bale will give you an extra 0.6.

You could downgrade Pie to someone (think McAnuff is the current preferred option) as Baines will also give you Everton attacking coverage(what a guy!!).

Then you can get Rafael in.

Is it worth doing Aguero or Ba > Jelavic for a 4 point hit, don't like hits but I think situations like this warrant them, also got jenkinson who needs getting out soon, midfield is bale, pienaar, michu and walters.
