The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Eight – The Manchurian

Granville may well be exotic but he’s not Manchurian, despite what the spellcheck told me a few weeks back. He’s also a happy man. Winning on all fronts, he’s dishing out “one helluva beating” to yours truly right now.

Reveling in his position of power, the Hungarian Mancunian brings me to task on my jerky knee transfers, with the regular ScoutCast favourites scattered around that particular discussion.

Get your ears around our foreign tongues via this link or stream the nonsense through the player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Some things in football I completely fail to understand.
(Since I do not watch Newcastle games, this post is under my assumption that Newcastle have switched formation this season, making Ba the main striker instead of Cisse)

Why does a manager feel the need to change a winning combination? Why in the world would Pardew not keep the formation as it was in the end of last season where Ba was playing behind Cisse? That worked so much better than what it is now.

He's trying to keep Ba happy so he stays and knows Cisse isn't as good linking up play out wide....feels inevitable he will leave anyway though to me.

Last year they were playing 4-3-3, so Ba and HBA were flanking Cisse. The benefited Cisse and HBA, and hurt Ba.

Ba and his agent have been very vocal about his diminished role in the 4-3-3 so I presume that had some effect on Pardue. Also, Cisse can't score to save his life so he needs the production out of Ba in a 4-4-2.

For that matter, why wouldn't Pardew go back to the original with Ba up front?

I think you've got a couple of things wrong here. First off, Ba played wide left in a 4-3-3 a lot towards the end of last season. Making Cisse the 'main' striker. Ba's returns inevitably diminished and Cisse's became outrageous.

Playing those tactics again this year might spice things up a bit. But if you'd watched Newcastle you'd know that Cisse is woefully out of form. And in most games he looks completely lost.

The problem, I think, is that Ba and Cisse cancel each other out a bit. They both want to play the main striker role but when they play together up top they just get in each others way and neither flourishes. At least that's what's happened so far. Hence why Pardew has at times preferred to play Ameobi with Ba so Ba has someone to feed off of.

The way the system was changed at the back end of last season actually hurt Ba's game quite a lot. And we're seeing him back to his old self again this year. Cisse is not as good as you think he is. Ba is way better in my honest opinion.

I am pretty sure HBA was out wide while Ba was much more closer to goal on the opposite flank last season.
I dont watch Newcastle games because I dont like that team, but I just thought that Pardew is being oversmart this season. But seeing that Cisse is out of form, then it makes sense.

        Thanks for your opinions guys.

I think they're pretty lacking at times creatively. But benching Ba earlier on in the season was a big mistake that was duly rectified.

    @ Isacki

I posted above as a response to your post about Bale and Caz.

Generally, I agree we tend to be fickle managers here but:

    1) Points up to date isn’t necessrily indicative of future performance…you can’t simply project based on information to date. Injuries, form, fixtures, play time, rotation – it all comes to play.

    2) Just because someone ends up with 190 points over the season, doesn’t mean the optimal strategy is to have owned them over the course of the season. If they hit a bad stretch, you can transfer them out and then back in when they hit form.

    Begovic

    Baines Hangeland Williamson

    Michu Fellaini Cazorla HBA

    Berba Tevez(vc) RVP(c)

I realise there's been a bit of discussion about captain choice this week, had a look at the stats and saw this... it's Fulham this season when Berbatov has played 90 mins:

    WBA 3-0
    Wigan 2-1
    Villa 1-0
    Reading 3-3
    Everton 2-2
    Arsenal 3-3

Who are you guys captaining? and why 😉 Think I'm still edging towards RVP myself

Watched entire Stoke QPR game last weekend.
Taraabt creates so many chances but end product is terrible. As far as I remember he got only one shot on target (fantastic long range dipping effort) and at least 5 shots off target. Too selfish. Doesnt know what to do when he gets in the box so he just wastes the opportunity, every single time. And doesnt look like he is going to change, so I wouldnt get him in my team if I was you.

Very tricky... I have Morrison and just have a feeling about him. He's given me some pain but also a lot of pleasure. Apart from RVP, I feel he may be my season's keeper.

That is based on nothing but idiocy.

        Would probably go Michu myself.

    Evening all... some thoughts please.

    Jussi,

    Baines, Rafael, Shawcross

Sterling, Fellaini (vc), Hazard, Michu, Nolan,

    RVP (C), Tevez

    Subs: Mignolet, Lambert, McCartney, Clyne

    Do I?

    A) Save FT
    B) Tevez --> Suarez (0.0m left in the bank)
    C) Hazard --> Mata (1.1m left in the bank)
    D) Other

I could do Hazard --> Silva and Lambert to Berbatov for -4 this week.

1FT and 0.6m in the bank.

Touch is literally...a touch. Every time they aim for his head, it counts. So a touch doesn't really mean much in his case.

Yeah but if they are aiming for his head in the box normally you aim it for the goal. It's not like Suarez - you know why he has so many because he has so much close control and dribbles in the box.
