The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Saturday – Part Two

Anthony Pilkington earns the points for Norwich with a superb headed effort extending his side’s unbeaten run to five. Robin Van Persie fails to score or assist for the first time as a starter for United, with the Canaries resilient defence proving too good for the most prolific attack in the Premier League:

Going Up

Norwich Defence
The Canaries came into this evening’s game having conceded a single goal in their previous four Gameweeks but the visit of United was considered a real test of their resolve. A 1-0 win continued their upturn in resilience as Chris Hughton’s influence starts to have a real effect – they now have five clean sheets this term, three more than this evening’s beaten opponents.

Anthony Pilkington
His first goal of the campaign was enough to produce the points for the hosts. Norwich have not tasted defeat since a 4-1 battering at Chelsea in Gameweek 7 and while they may not score many – netting more than once on a single occasion so far – Hughton’s side concede even less; the opposite of last season’s form under former boss Paul Lambert.

Going Down

United Defence
David De Gea was given the day off after a trip to the dentist caused problems but Anders Lindegaard could do little about Pilkington’s excellent headed winner. United have now conceded first in eight of their 12 matches and for once, their attack was unable to bail them out.

United Attack
Tonsillitis kept Wayne Rooney out of the reckoning and with Javier Hernandez selected to start, Robin Van Persie dropped a little deeper. Having racked up 29 goals in the previous 10, with at least two goals per game over that run, the visitors were snuffed out for the first time since Gameweek 1. Three favourable fixtures in the next four look set to offer Van Persie a chance to rectify tonight’s blip – this was the first time he has failed to produce a goal or assist when starting a league game for United.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Defensive prospects still look bleak but I reckon he will still chip in with the odd assist. Shorey, too.

After a week in the top 50,000 GW scores, I follow it up with a score at almost 2,000,000 rank. The guy in 4th (now moved up to 2nd, and my main rival over the season) had Caz Bale Sterling Suarez Tevez in XI and Mertesacker to come off the bench. Lucky git.

Really need Captain Berbatov to get at least 15 tomorrow and a Begovic CS please.

Fair enough. Surely the best advice is just to ignore you opponent every week. I found that nearly impossible to do and ended up factoring their likely moves into my decision making.... seriously bad news.

Really helped my rank as well by just focusing on my own team!

You're probably right. But I also think I tend to take more risks (with captaincies, benchings) unless I have a 'pacemaker' team each week. Stops me trying anything overtly silly. 😀

I get it now this is the FPL forum. For financial purposes the site offers links to other FF games like SKY
for instance. However being a FPL forum.... all visitors are encouraged not to post unless you are a member of the FPL clique_ otherwise it's not really pertinent to the peeps that are playing for FPL interests.

I found this site at the very beginning of my picking out my FF team and it's been gold dust.
But there is a terrible bias for a site that advocates all formats of the game,

I may add that it is the members that have that problem and they need to change that attitude i.e people that don't want to link there teams. If you play the SKY game of course you don't want to link your team!!! So just give some posters a break 'cause I'm here now and won't allow myself or others to be bullied OK

fair enough, and like others have said below, the vast majority will be willing to help regardless of which game you play.... but if you call people prejudiced, "FPL racists" (a few pages back) and "bum boys" on an internet forum and get negative comments directed toward you in reply, I wouldn't really call that being bullied. I'd call that being antagonistic (and we do enjoy our antagonistic characters round here now and again... RBJ a few years ago comes to mind)

I've been thinking about moving Ba -> Suarez (and losing Baines in the process).

I'm usually easily tempted by price rises, but not this time. I just can't do it!
It would be too painful watching Baines go double digit next week.
I reckon Ba will have a good week as well.

People taking out Baines to finance Suarez tonight, are you worried about next week?
How much did price changes influence your decision?

McAualey's fixtures are not great, and I have Foster for West Brom defensive cover. Also, dropping him would free up some funds as I currently have 0. Mata has a blank coming up, and I prefer Silva or Walcott, which will free up some funds.

        D) McAuley + Mata for Cuellar/Wisdom and Walcott, then switch Ba to Tevez next week (if he doesn't go up by more than 0.1)

Consolation, yes. Many of us captained RVP, you have Berba, Duff, Hangeland and Bego to play and you benched Gallas wisely.

      Hope. Not so much.

      Suarez 200, Cameron 120

Don't do it dude. You can really easily rectify your position. It's the last 10 weeks that really matter... as long as you are in a decent position going into that (top 100k for example) you can make a good assault on the sought after ranks

    My team

    Begovic Jaaskelainen
    Baines Gibbs Demel Rafael Nelsen
    Cazorla Hoolahan Mata Bale McAnuff
    RVP Crouch Ba

2 free transfers - have enough money to do ba and gibbs to turner and tevez. Would anyone suggest also dropping baines for a cheaper defender to get suarez in for a 4 point hit instead?

Sorry, I think a Mata out knee jerk is a terrible idea. Sleep on it. Chelsea were lacking Mata today, but when he plays most of their attacks seem to be worked through him and Chelsea will attack a lot.

Too true, wish Tevez had had a blank or Suarez had got a yellow, would've made everything easier. I think I'm going to stick for now because Liverpool have a few tricky away games coming up, it's just his impending price rises might haunt me :S

I think the plan is to get Silva in for City cover and hope he's sufficient. I'm still avoiding City cause unsure where the points are going to come from week to week, and every week I grit my teeth as City continue to knock in goals.

Nah I went Van Persie, dropped nearly 50,000 places as a result, still got six players to play though. Still expecting a big fat red arrow this week. Rival had a stormer, he's gonna be leading by around 40-50+ points after the bonus points come in. 🙁

Here. I've had Tevez since GW3(ish), but have always been afraid to captain him because of fear of Mancini's rotation (and the fact that I have a ready-made captain in RVP). But, same as you, after I almost made the "safe" option to captain RVP again I grew some balls and handed Tevez the armband. I think it worked out okay.
