The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety Four – Resumption

Back for 2013, fully refreshed, slightly rusty and balancing the same chips on our shoulders, Granville are I make a return to the podcast studio.

The New Year presents my beleaguered co-host with a 51-point gap to bridge as I spent Christmas “ho-ho-ing” about three midfield hat-tricks, leaving Granville to roll out one mighty miffed in this week’s episode.

Elsewhere, we pick at the double Gameweek buffet, eagerly scoffing on the Chelsea canapés whilst wondering if Rafa has hidden something nasty in the vol-a-vents. We rinse that down with the latest transfers in and out in “all aboard”, preview all the weekend fixtures and carry out the latest emergency surgery on the ailing ScoutCast team.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The final decision of my GW comes down to Suarez v Ba (-4)

Suarez I reckon is capable of an assist at old trafford. Call his score 5.

Ba could grab a goal in either of the DGW games if he actually starts, which isn't guaranteed with rafa. So he could score between 2-14ish IMO.

Suarez then has Norwich at home next (having scored a hattrick in the reverse fixture) while Ba has Arsenal.

    Hmmm...

keeping suarez i would say is the safer move while ba could be a very worthwhile gamble. remember he scored a hattrick against stoke last year! and could tear southampton apart too. his score could be between 3 and 20 imo

let me add that i've gotten ba in for suarez for a hit. i'm pretty scared of suarez but i think i'd be more scared of ba. plus it allowed me to get mata in for maloney so that was a plus. and then i'll probably swap ba for pod/giroud next week for a hopefully large dgw haul

Hmm yeah. I also was thinking of Ba to poldi/Giroud the next week. That could make up for not having Suarez against Norwich.

      keep suarez

he can easily run riot against UTD and Nor

and you can cover Ba with likes of hazard/mata

Let's be honest though having hazard or Mata isn't really cover for Ba given that they might not be playing at the same time or or might not assist him.

I have Mata but that isn't making me feel like he's cover for Ba.

other day i wanted to get Ba in so badly but i couldn't loose any of Suarez or Jelavic so i simply double up at Mata+Hazard with Hazard as 1 week C punt

          hopefully it would pay off

hehehe well you know how that admiration has spread, people now generally respect his ability even if they can't like him 😆

He is a machine and the only forward anywhere near in points to RVP, that said, I'm thinking with 3 horrible fixtures in the next 4, and Sturridge arriving, if there's a time not to own him in the season, it might be now.

The idea that Everton are bad defensively is a myth. They’ve lost 3 games all season. That doesn’t sound like a team that’s bad defensively to me.

They’ve only conceded more than 1 goal in ONE game in the last 9 league games (against Chelsea)

Most teams would be proud of that record.

    So like I said…complete myth!!

Sure but there's a difference between being bad in FPL and actually being bad in real life. Everton are a team you never fancy to concede that many.

They are also probably one of the few sides that has yet to concede more than 2 in the league...Are you telling me that's a leaky defence?

Leaky in the sense that they haven't been keeping CS? Absolutely...

Leaky in the sense that they are giving away what they might consider as cheap goals in almost every game, even when they have defended resolutely for most of the game? Absolutely...

It's even more frustrating when they concede less but concede nonetheless...

Sure their defence isn't bad but their defenders outside Baines score poor. I'd rather a defender who keeps CS & cops a few goals at times too. Overall they will outscore the EVE defender.

It's also about CS potential. It's easy to look back on the start of the season and say 'these are the teams that will keep the most CS from now on'

But it doesn't work like that. Hence why saying 'it's all about the CS in FPL' is redundant. It's about looking at future potential also...not just making generalisations about the past.

They haven't been unlucky at all. Have you watched them play? Probably not because you've not left this site in...ever. Anyways, they play pretty open football and Howard is half the keeper he used to be.
As i said, they concede goals, which is true..you can't try and argue that as well, can you? They don't necessarily have to be a poor or leaky defence to be a defence not worth investing in. Especially at their prices.

I agree with this, I see great potential for clean sheets for Everton in the coming fixtures. I noticed when looking at Baines' history that they're the only team who hasn't conceded more than 2 goals in a single game this season, I think that hints to some clean sheets.

That's an interesting stat isn't it...never conceded more than two. They may not be getting CS regularly but there is a reliability there. Everton just don't get hammered by anyone. And with their fixtures I can see a swing in CS fortunes in FPL for sure.

Oh the irony. You went on for most of the season so far about how Baines can't keep clean sheets and now you say the Everton defence is solid.

You should work in radio or something, I'm sure they pay good money to people who can fill airtime.

It was because Baines wasn't justifying his price tag not that I believe Everton can't keep clean sheets or defend.

The frustration wasn't with Everton's lack of solidity but with Baines being a blatant waste of money and I was getting sick of owning him...if he was 4/5-6m I wouldn't have been too bothered about it and could have argued it was worth it but the price tag just was bringing my team down.

What's wrong with working on the radio? Do you not like music?

I'm sorry that's absolute bullsh*t Mr Unreal, Baines lack of clean sheets was the most common reason you said Baines was a waste of money. It formed the basis of a neverending campaign to sell Baines that bored everyone to tears.

You're only saying that because most people can't be bothered to Google for your FFS comments earlier in the season that completely contradict yourself.

Your lack of integrity is depressing.

Haha, give me a break. Why not judge the integrity of my post and stop calling it ironic that I want to have a debate about it. It's a perfectly legitimate topic of discussion. The same can be said for everything that was being discussed about Baines back then. The lack of recent CS made it easier to sell him which most were content with doing...him being such a waste of money and all.

I never for a moment thought Baines wouldn't keep CS again this season...but that he was worth selling due to his high price tag.

      I agree completely.

I remember last season I had said this for when they played City where everyone needed City players in the midweek game and although Everton had a lack of clean sheets, I said they had only conceded more than 1 goal on very few occasions and think possibly more than 2 on only one occasion and this was after 26 odd games.

This was when my Hinbert punt became solid 🙂

Cheers 1Mills. They kept a clean sheet against Man Utd at home after all at the start of the season. They're well capable of clean sheets...and haven't been bad enough defensively to write them off...in fact they've been very consistently solid all season!

    Turnbull (Beogovic)

Sounds like people have serious doubts that Turnbull will get both matches. I have 1 FT left.

    A) Krul > Turnbull

    B) Cuellar > Azpi (can JUST afford this)

    C) Save FT

    D) Something else

Have Mata and Ba, and Clyne (but not I’ll select him).

If I just hold, I can do for example Bale > Walcott and Cuellar > Gibbs next week without a hit.

If only we knew Cech was out a while longer :/

Really? So much talk of Cech back in training. If he is, he could make the So'ton game.

Then again, they have piles of matches, and So'ton is a game where they can 'risk' the backup goalie. ARGH, I'm so unsure what to do!! 😀

Other goalie is Jaask, and I do doubt they'll keep out Sunderland. They've leaked much more goals lately :/

    I have already taken a -4 this week(early transfer, stupid i know)

Presently defense is a mess. Cuellar(50% chance) Nelsen(dont know if he starts) Jones(will hopefully start) Enrique(out) OBrien(25% chance of start)

Worth taking another -4 for a DGW defender? It will be automatically covered if the guy starts both games.

    What would you do?

    A. Nothing, and pray somehow 3 of these turn up.
    B. Enrique-->Azpi(cannot afford anyone else from Che) | for -4
    C. Enrique-->Collins(and benefit from the DGW 23) | for -4
    D. Some other transfer | for -4

    Thanks guys

GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI has been delivered a World Cup boost after Stoke boss Tony Pulis confirmed that Marc Wilson is just a couple of weeks away from a return to action.

The left-back suffered a broken leg in the Premier League clash with Sunderland on October 27, two weeks after he scored a key goal on his first competitive start for Ireland in the pressure-filled win in the Faroe Islands.

There were initial fears that he faced a long lay-off, but the 25-year-old has made a good recovery and is on the verge of resuming ball-work with his employers.

It is anticipated that Ireland's friendly with Poland on February 6 will come too soon. However, Trapattoni's main concern is that the player is available for the crucial March double header with Sweden and Austria, and he is set to comfortably meet that target.

"We are hopeful that Marc is now only a couple of weeks away," said Pulis. "I am hoping that in the next couple of days or even early next week, he might be able to join in with a little bit of ball work with the players."

Trapattoni was slow to promote Wilson to his team after some well publicised misunderstandings, but he took action in the wake of Ireland's 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Germany.

Wilson (left) was selected ahead of Stephen Ward for the subsequent trip to the Faroes and demonstrated the quality that has made him a Premier League regular.

Pulis displayed his admiration for the player by offering him a new four-year contract the week after he sustained his injury.

The fitness of defenders is the main issue for Trapattoni in the build-up to the pivotal spring fixtures.

Richard Dunne and Sean St Ledger are battling to return from long-term problems, while John O'Shea has also spent time on the sidelines with hamstring trouble.

Help needed. In the words of David Bowie, I'm an absolute beginner, RMWCT please:

    Federici, Bunn
    Harte, Luiz, Gibbs, Demel, Stam
    Bale, Mata, Michu, Fellaini, Walcott
    Suarez, Ba, Ruiz

Is it really so necessary to sacrifice this to include RVP????!!!!! Yes or Nay

Very nice team, although you need a better GK.
If you choose to get RVP, suggest downgrade a MID to Puncheon and upgrade Suarez.
You could live without however - he's not as essential as everyone on here makes out.

Cheers Baker, really appreciate the reply and advice. I'm glad you see my point, I could include him but i'd rather re-jig things after the arsenal DGW and bring him in then if I want to (as you say sack off a mid and suarez and bring him in). His price is far too inflated and too many people sacrificing their midfields/defences to include him.
