The Big Numbers – Gameweek 22

West Brom’s Romelu Lukaku heads up our ICT Index rankings after a weekend of football, with Wigan’s Franco Di Santo an unlikely name to keep Robin Van Persie company in our top three. Our members can investigate these standings in full, digesting all the data from the weekend’s action. Big Numbers makes a return to pick out our take on the key statistics on show, together with an array of trends that have emerged over the past four Gameweeks…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Seen as Arsenal have a double next week and Benitez's rotation & obsession with Torres, Walcott & Pobrebnyak(Bench) for Ba & Kacanklic(Bench)??

The rules should be tighter. Yes, it would benefit United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, but it should!! They have a better moral standing with wages than City and Chelsea.

Thoughts on this wildcard? To be played after Arsenal / West Ham DGW.

    Begovic, Jaaskelainen
    Evans, Zabaleta, Martin, Wilson, Davies
    Bale, Mata, Fellaini, Michu, Puncheon
    van Persie, Sturridge, Tevez

Looks good though personally not a fan of spend big $$$ on a city striker if not assured of gametime.

May I ask why you're playing the wildcard after the two dgwks and not before? You could load up on dgwkers...

i find it easier to plan for doubles in advance then use a wildcard to put in place the team you want, other wise your stuck with a host of soton/ west ham/ arsenal players you dont want long term

    The Bale vs Cazorla conundrum.

Since I'm on a WC, wouldn't it be prudent to just get Cazorla (along with Walcott and Gibbs), who'll have two bites and the pie and switch to Bale right after?

I need to do the transfer now to avoid Walcotts price rise, or I wont be able to get my WCT.

Need a new cheap midfielder, due to a bad assesment of my budget on my wildcard. Up to 5.5 preferably dirt cheap. Need to bring him in this week or the next, need to play him on gw 23 and 25 at least. Current options are:

Walcott....go up if you must, but I will not buy you. There are many games to play this week. ANYTHING could yet happen

Both DGW teams have a game to play, which could go to extra time too?
    RVP could get injured
    Mata could get injured
    Jussi could get sent off.

    Roll on Wednesday night 11pm

Cazorla and Walcott run into each other injuring themselves
Mata and Ba fight over a pen and get sent off.

    bego mcCarthy
    bassong azpi davies o'brien shorey
    mata michu walcott bale puncheon
    ba RVP suarez

1 FT, 0.1 itb, WC available.

i'm all set to do azpi > gibbs (for now), do you think there's any transfer that is worth a 4pt hit for me?thinking:-
    A) o'brien > demel
    B) ba > pod
    C) the unpopular bale > santi

tough call but i was edging towards fellaini, thought he may get more assists and bonus points. hate either/or decisions its inevitable the one you end up picking goes on a goal drought while the other one hits a hot streak

Was just an off day for Suarez all round today I think. He was pretty awful all game.

Does anyone think Debuchy will be a good buy? I seem to remember him being a good cheap option in either the champs league oe europa league fantasy football. Had decent assists for a defender.

Sold Demba Ba after just putting him last week, needed funds for Walcott since his DGW, just think Ba is a bit of a liability when hes not guaranteed to play since Benitez rotates, plays 1 up top and is a fan of Torres & pressure from Ambromivch to play him

So, regarding wildcard strategy. I've kept my nerve and am clinging on til GW24/25. My objection to the power 5 so far has not been based on current performance but simply the risk of relying on michu and fellaini both to be firing to make it work (with basically no replacements at their price if they don't). The fellaini to Chelsea rumours are bugging me a little bit. However, if I get to GW25 with the wildcard and he is still with Everton when the transfer window closes I will likely go for a power 5 with Aguero and RVP up top.

If not, will probably go 4 mids with RVP Cisse Sturridge up top.

Will be looking for city (zabaleta) and united (rafael /evans) defensive cover in both.

This is my tactic also. If Fellaini stays, i don't think i can avoid the 'power 5' style!

                I would think so

players I need not to rise

                Aguero
                Bunn
                Evans
                Davies
                Harte
                Fabio/Onuoha

also with regard to the flexabilty issue, Aguero to a Studge/Fletcher type and an upgrade of Pog with whichever of the power 5 you need to lose. If you roll over 1 Ft every week, it can be done for -4

interesting ideas. who would your 3rd forward be if you went with the power 5?

the problem i see is that michu hasn't scored in a few gw's now. and usually complain about not having enough striker spots to fit all the forwards we want so essentially reduing your number of striker spots will cause that problem. also it doesn't allow you to rotate between cheaper options that are in form and/or have good fixtures such as studge, fletcher, berb, ruiz, lambert, lukaku, etc

Yep, I've become convinced flexibility is the hidden x factor in squads, very easily defined as how many replacements in the same price bracket do you have for your players? 3-5-2 reduces that considerably (michu, Fellaini, 11m+ forwards) but promises good points.

The cost is a 4 point hit to go from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3 though you will not necessarily get the players you would pick in a wc. That's a considerable cost and so I'm waiting as late as possible to commit to 3-5-2 to minimize risk.
