Watchlist

The Watchlist – Steven Fletcher

It took little time for Steven Fletcher to establish himself as something of a talisman for Sunderland this season. The summer signing from Wolves made an immediate impact on Wearside, with goals and maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points in each of his first four appearances making the £12m fee paid out to the Molineux side look a canny piece of business by Martin O’Neill.

After a barren autumn spell, the Scot has returned to form and from Gameweek 16 onwards has developed a real streak of consistency – he hasn’t gone more than a single match without producing attacking returns from that point, in a run that has harvested five wins in the last eight for the Black Cats. With 10 goals and four assists for the season, Fletcher has played a part in more than half his side’s 27 strikes and has collected 23 FPL bonus points, second only to Robin Van Persie’s 28 so far.

Up to fifth in the FPL forward rankings on 112 points, Fletcher sits at his initial FPL starting price of 7.0, having previously risen as high as 7.4. A brace away to Wigan last weekend seems to have caught the attention of Fantasy managers and as winter wildcards continue to be wielded, he is the most transferred in forward in the Gameweek, with over 21,000 snapping up his mid-price services.

Post-match, O’Neill singled out the Scotsman as the Black Cats continued their climb up the table after a 3-2 win over the Latics:

“The transfer seemed to be a bit of a saga at the time but it was well worth it. We relied on him at the beginning of the season; he was the only player scoring for us. Since then we’ve shared a few goals around but he’s a really top-class centre-forward, not just with his goals but in the way he brings others in to play. For one not so tall he’s strong: what Sir Bobby Robson called ‘a proper centre-forward.”

Fletcher’s flourishing form certainly looks to be afforded the chance to continue for the foreseeable future. Looking at the upcoming schedule, Sunderland have arguably just one tricky fixture in the next seven (SWA, rdg, ARS, wba, FUL, qpr, NOR) before matters takes a turn for the worse in Gameweek 31. While last season’s Fantasy favourite Stephane Sessegnon continues to toil, many may look to Adam Johnson as alternative Sunderland cover for their favourable run Fletcher certainly seems better value – he currently costs just 0.3 more than the former City winger and has averaged 5.3 points per game to Johnson’s 4.5.

As owners of Demba Ba begin to ponder a transfer out due to the uncertainty of game time under Rafa Benitez, and the likes of Jermain Defoe and Dimitar Berbatov struggle to produce consistent returns, Fletcher (who is priced at 7.7 in the Sky Sports game) has staked a real case for our consideration, with secure starts and run of form that’s becoming increasingly difficult to overlook.

Well, aren't we a bunch of riddlers and riddle fiends tonight?

    My favourite one:

A man lives in a town where it is illegal to lie. Tired of his lying, the judge sentences him to death for him crimes. He begs for one last chance, and the judge tells him that if he can present him with a piece of paper by the following morning, containing an unquestionable truth, he will allow him to serve life imprisonment rather than death.

The following morning, the defendant hands the judge a piece of paper, and the judge reads it. He tells the man that he has no choice but to set him completely free.

What was written on the paper?

Yeah, a couple of you basically got it right.

He wrote 'You will sentence me to death', hence creating a paradox. If he was telling the truth, then the judge can't sentence him to death, making it a lie. But if he was lying, the judge has to sentence him to death, which makes it the truth.

Actually, the note is vacuous. A lie only occurs if the person knows something to be true but claims it is false. At the time that the mote was written, the defendant could not know the judge's decision, so he could not lie about it or tell the truth.

For example, "West Ham will defeat Arsenal 2-0" is neither a lie or the truth as the event has not yet occurred. It's simply a statement..

RVP and Luiz to Evra and Aguero this week.

Dzeko to Fletcher for GW25 where Dzeko plays Liverpool and Fletcher plays Reading.

Fellaini to bale where Bale plays Newcastle and Fellaini plays United for GW26

Finally, Gibbs to GJohnson, when Liverpool clear their fixture out..

Trivia night is it... this is an old favourite of mine

There was 3 prisoners. The jailer takes them and placed them into a line on three chairs. Man C sits at behind that he can see both man A and B, B in the middle so can only see man A and man A can see none of the other men.

The jailer shows 5 hats, 2 black and 3 whites. After this, he blindfolds the men and place one hat on each of their heads and removes the blindfold. The jailer tells his three prisoners if one of them is able to determine the color of his hat within one minute all of them are released.

Only one chance is given and none can see directly his own hat. Wrong answer means execution. After 59 seconds man A shouts out the correct color of his hat.

What is the color of man A's hat and how does he know?

If his was Black, and so was Man B's then Man C would know his own was White.

However if Man A's was Black, and Man B's was White, no one would know a thing.

Personally I suspect that you wrote 3 instead of 1

            The first bit is right.

THe second bit isn't. I give you a clue since you got this far. If the Man A's was black, man B would know what color his hat is. 😉

Man C can see both so if they were both black he'd know his was white.
      Man B knows this too.

Therefore if Man A was wearing a black hat, then Man B would know what colour his hat was.

I still stand by the fact that inactivity of others does not justify your assumptions of their analytical ability. The human species as a race are retarded, its a fact.

C can only shout out if he sees 2 black hats, so we can assume that one of A or B is wearing white...

that's all im sure of right now...

If man C sees two black hats he would shout white. so hats A and B are either both white or white and black. Man B knows this too. If man B sees that Man A has a black hat, he would shout white, but if man A has a white hat, man B cannot be sure if his own is black or white so can't shout out. Man A works all this out much quicker than me and shouts white

Firstly, the jailer retains two hats, which all can see. If he retains 2 black, then A knows his is white. If he retains 2 white, then A knows he has a 2/1 chance of having a black hat. If he retains 1 of each, then he has a 2/1 chance of having awhite hat. Am I getting warm?

I like that point of view, but if that's the case then man C will easily know the answer as he can see the other 4 hats. 😀
