The Numbers Game – Budget Midfielders

Starting the season priced at just 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Raheem Sterling quickly cemented his place in many a five man midfield thanks to a consistency of game time under new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. Handed a first-team chance in Gameweek 2, the winger rose steadily in price to 5.7 as the bandwagon showed little sign of slowing down but a run of 16 consecutive starts was brought to an end in Gameweek 18, with Rodgers citing signs of fatigue in the youngster’s play:

With the arrival of Daniel Sturridge added to Fabio Borini’s return from injury, the attacking options are increasing for the Merseysiders – having started just three of the last six, Sterling’s owners are starting to get twitchy. He’s now dropped in price to 5.5 but, with a 17% ownership, remains the most popular sub 6.0 midfield option in the FPL game at present. As winter wildcards continue to be flourished, we take a look at the upcoming six Gameweeks and, in accordance with our Rate My Team projections, analyse the likely protagonists for those Fantasy managers eyeing up a potential transfer out…

    Red or Blue?
If you combined the squads of the Premier League teams who’s 1st team kits are Blue and all those that play in Red who would win? In essence – United, Liverpool and Arsenal vs Chelsea and City? And what would each team look like?

I was thinking that. Much as I'd like to see a host of comments on the article, that was kind of a good challenge *works on red vs blue XI's*.

Ba is still a top notch, first rate starter, and in a one off match involving Blue v Red players, he'd be in mine no question. The only reason he's lost so much love here is Rafa-tation.

Mug! Who else would you choose then for the blue side? Balo? Dzeko? Jelavic?

I forgot about Fellaini so Fellaini for Ba and have him play behind Tevez and Aguero.....there does that make you happy???

Ba is no where near the quality of Dzeko, Tevez and Aguero I'm afraid.
Massively overrated, nothing to do with rotation.

I'm not sure about keepers for that red XI, but since United and Arsenal are being linked with signing Reina I suppose I'd pick him, Sagna off the boil, and the rest of the Arsenal defence not entirely convincing mean they miss out, central midfield is a tough one though.
Who on the wings, Walcott is in great form, Valencia probably united's best winger, though not on this season's form, but how to fit in Suarez, Rooney and RVP? Play Rooney in midfield I guess.

      Reina?
      Johnson, Vidic, Agger, Evra
      Gerrard, Arteta
      Walcott, Rooney, Suarez
      RVP

      Hart
      Zabaleta, Kompany, Terry, Baines
      Lampard, Fellaini
      Hazard, Mata, Silva
      Aguero

How do you fit in Hazard, Mata, Oscar, Silva, Tevez, Aguero, Ba, Dzeko into a team?

Those two teams are very good, and very close to call.

I guess I'd lean red, but it'd be a fantastic game. Don't forget Everton for the blues 😉

how do you break down the computer's defence without using any dribbling skills at all?

Get yourself to custom tactics and change positioning from organised > free form. This gives your attacking players more freedom in the final 3rd and it it less rigid.

Change the speed of the build up play to 75 so your team move the ball quicker.

Play lots of 1, 2′s so you move your opponent around and create space to play into.

Learn to defend properly (tutorials on YouTube). when you get good at breaking down opponent attacks there is plenty space to catch them on the counter.

Get players with good agility, dribbling and the flair trait making it alot easier to beat your opponent.

I have no idea how to do the skills with the right analog though, and I am not planning to use it at all. Is it possible to break down teams even without using the star skills?

Everything I said above has nothing to do with doing skills. I don't do skills either.

Know when to take your finger off the sprint button aswell. Much tighter ball control when you you the lt and rt controls (xbox) and you can pick off your opponent.

Also get close to the defenders before releasing passes so you can catch them out and get in behind them.

Also try the left analog stick on it's own and loosen up on it. You can dribble past defenders easier when you slow down and have good control of the ball.

Use a lot of one twos and balls over the top. Get good at crossing into the box ( still overpowered), Learn simple skills like fakeshot to cut back inside ( computer not good at dealing with that). Also just generally having pacier players will make it easier.

I'm so confident Javier Hernandez will explode vs Southampton, I brought him in for Ba last night. BEFORE his price dropped.

    Fletcher? Pah.
    Berbatov? PAH!

(Ok, I'll admit I didn't know his price was going to drop :D)

Similarly, last week ignored the flashing beacon that is the FPL yellow flag and brought in Podolski. As an infamous resident of Notre Dame may have said, "I have a hunch".

Wouldn't be surprised tbh, but even from the bench he has a chance.

I've a front 8 (with Ba) that I couldn't pick 7 from so could have Hernandez for a little while as a luxury. Generally, he seems to start or not at all.

Real Madrid game on the horizon so I think him and Danny may get more PL game time.

Assuming Aguero is first choice (he is), it's a funny time for Tevez. He seems 'happy' to play the support role returning 3 assists in his last 2 starts. You have to go back to the 1st Dec for his last goal. (Google it too as he's made some comments about not being hungry for goals.)

As such, I think Dzeko may well be second choice in the pecking order now. He'll continue to show flashes of brilliance and selfishness though which has already shown signs of frustrating his team mates in recent matches.

Nice work, Doo's. Stats are carrying me this season without Van Persie. The only problem I have with them is that they don't give always give an accurate reflection of a player's form or what is around the corner. The best you can hope for is that a player getting into positions to score will eventually explode or at the very least start converting some of their chances.

Unfortunately (from a stats point of view), when players ARE in form, they need very little opportunity. Everything they touch seems to go in. Just ask Jelavic.

fiso question i should probably know

if a player goes over 100% he will rise, but does the amount he goes over count towards his next rise.....

eg if a player reaches 110% by the end of the day, will he be on 10% after the rise?
