The Numbers Game – Budget Midfielders

Starting the season priced at just 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Raheem Sterling quickly cemented his place in many a five man midfield thanks to a consistency of game time under new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. Handed a first-team chance in Gameweek 2, the winger rose steadily in price to 5.7 as the bandwagon showed little sign of slowing down but a run of 16 consecutive starts was brought to an end in Gameweek 18, with Rodgers citing signs of fatigue in the youngster’s play:

With the arrival of Daniel Sturridge added to Fabio Borini’s return from injury, the attacking options are increasing for the Merseysiders – having started just three of the last six, Sterling’s owners are starting to get twitchy. He’s now dropped in price to 5.5 but, with a 17% ownership, remains the most popular sub 6.0 midfield option in the FPL game at present.         im not joking by the way - 3.9m for defender five potential OOP playing for chelsea is worth a punt when most 4m defenders bring home 1 point anyway. I just picked up 2pts for demel on double gw.

        Exactly, I know it's a risk, but like you said, I'll lose out on maybe 1 point if he comes on as a sub late in the game. He is going to be in, even if he gets a CS it's a risk well taken.

  my only worry would be in a couple of weeks 3 of the defence might not be starting. But i have same problems with defence at the moment - tough freeing up the cash for the midfield!

      i think cheap defences are the way to go the only thing is the competition in the back you have Harte/ Shorey - Dawson/gallas /kaboul/ vertonghen and fabio has not played that much.if you had one more person gauranteed first teamer you'd be covered
      I am looking at Aguerro and fletcher up front maybe with Sturidge coming in a couple of weeks.

  Obviously you are struggling with team value so it makes it tough. It's a good balance though, with decent options like Lennon, Dzeko instead of their pricier team mates. I'm not sold on Kun yet... will wait and see there and Bale has not done anything to justify his price tag in my team for the last few games.

I've just realized that the best replacement for Hazard is Lampard!
He is 1.0 cheaper, he is nailed on now, he is on pens and free kicks and corners and fixtures are decent despite two away games in next two GWs.
Bringing Mata would mean a hit and downgrading someone.
This (Haz->Lamps) will make some money for future transfers.

With the Chelsea midfield a bit short at the moment I think that it's safe to assume that Lampard will continue to get games.
