The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety Six – Changes

As we close on a century of episodes it was time to freshen things up and bring new voices to accompany my drone and that of grumpy Granville. In this weeks’ episode, we draft in both “Professor” Chris Atkinson and his “Rate My Team” computer, plus long-time community member and contributor, Jonty, for a new ScoutCast regular.

Don’t worry, the usual format remains intact although, having recorded this just minutes after last night’s whistles, Granville escapes the usual mini-league grilling. Not surprisingly, there’s plenty of “Granny’s miffed” to endure, plus “All Aboard” and the weekend preview. That’s’ rounded off by the “Full Jonty” a brand new feature that will bring you, the community, into our weekly ramblings.

Have a listen then get involved by mailing jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

That's 8 points after a WC, Isacki, I don't think it's that wise. Doesn't make sense to keep Evra for one week only and then spend 4 to bring him back.

I won't try to talk you out of going RvP-less, though.

I went through all the permutations for getting 5 DGW players. If you have 5 DGW players you will require 2 transfers (a hit) to field a full team the next week, no matter what. UNLESS you get Reina. Having looked at that, I'm not keen. Also, to get 5 DGW players in will require a hit unless you're happy having two Liverpool players against City this GW.

        No way out really.

Given he should get 2*2 = 4 points just for playing both DGW games and up to 8 more points for the clean sheets, plus a good chance of attacking points, I reckon.

Unfortunately I would have to transfer him because it allows me to do Fellaini > Gerrard.

Course I am 😆 but not as scared as I used to be. Their points are untouchable when they're the dominant strikers (when Rooney was out and when Sturridge hadn't arrived). I do think it's quite different when they're not.

I agree with Pepin that 8pts directly after a WC is bad planning, even for a DGW...

I have played with various options to get 3 Pool players, but ultimately have decided to stick with just 2... I wonder if you would be better doing the same?

8pts could be paid back and profited on, but it's a big risk considering CS are at a premium and that Swansea are good defensively... it's tough for me to recommend those hits...

3-5-2 is only worth it if you have another big hitter beside Rooney IMO (since he himself is a risk and might not be as consistent as you'd like), someone like Suarez or Aguero... with Sturridge it looks a little weak...

However, all in all it's still one of the best plans I've seen, and I am tempted by Cisse as well...

Cheers Zep, If I got Johnson for the 8 points the gamble will only properly pay off if he gets some sort of attacking points ... which is never a great thing to count on from a defender... so maybe it just isn't doable.

Maybe I should just go 2 Liverpool and pick them really well...

My first reaction looking at Sturridge relative to Suarez/Aguero was also that it was too weak. But I think there's an element of the price seeming too good to be true there. If FPL could reset the prices now given the current information, I reckon they'd raise Sturridge's price and lower Suarez's. Aguero has actually been in poor form most of the season, I'm getting put off my original Rooney & Aguero plan.

Maloney probably the safest bet (4.8).
A punt could be made on Gardner (4.9)-possible that Sunderland will have more of an attacking threat now that Graham is on the scene, thus more potential for free kicks and penalties
Marveaux is the best talent (4.3) but it's unclear if he will start. Gutierez has been far less effective but might still start on the wing instead of Marv. It wont matter when Ben Arfa comes back anyways.

Good luck. May save an extra .8 and go with Taarabt?

Maloney has Reading that GW 27 when you might need him so that could be a good option. Gardner (West Brom) away. Perhaps Kacaniklic (Stoke) away but Emanualson will probably make his starts even less uncertain.

I don't know anything about Kebe for Reading, but coming in at 4.6, has played 90 in 7 of the last 8 and has 1 goal 2 assists in the last three. Far more than Guthrie. Thus, I would say that Kebe against Wigan would probably be the better shout for only .5 more

    Nacho Monreal

Do you reckon he becomes an immediate starter int he EPL? Doubtful. I see Koscielny & Mertesacker playing in the middle with Vermaelen at LB in league games with Monreal being eased in action.

        He won't be 6m, I am guessing 5.0m or 5.5m.

I think he`ll start. Vermaelen is poor at LB, Nacho is an attacking LB, much like Gibbs. Santos is awful and should be disposed. Also, no way he`s 5.0m. Spain international defender signing for a top side? 5.5 atleast, my guess.

He is good, from the little ive seen of him. Vermaelen on the other hand, deary me. This season has really showed his defencive flaws to a full extent. Most people didnt notice them last season when he was bombing up and getting into chances and scoring goals, but tbh i think he`s your worst centreback. He obviously has qualities, but if i were Arsènè, i`d seriously bench him.

are DDG nailed on?? not sure which keepers to have for the rest of the season

Big hitters: ddg, begovic (bought him very early), sczensy, mignolet

cheapies: bunn (rotation risk??), caesar, fed

which combo works the best??...i normally try to get keepers of those teams who defenders are more expensive so the keeper is the best coverage for that team.

Arsenal: sczeny is the best option as defenders are more pricey apart from sagna but rotated mayb
Stoke: any news on wilson?? can sell begovic for 5.3 and possibly buy cameron till wilson is back
United: DDG seems the best option but might get rotated
Sland: cueller seems the best option and i dont think he is out for too long so more attractive then mignolet

    thoughts?

Fletcher won't be rotated in the league. 4-4-2 is definitely an option, though I am guessing Graham will start off the bench in the first couple of games.

Im thinking maybe 4-3-1-2 with Sess in the hole could work, but knowing MON he`s probably just going to give Graham cameos to start with. Fletcher is their main man, no way he`ll get rotated.

This is what im wondering as well. Currently have Michu and Davies, will have to FT so probably i`ll get Suarez and Gerrard for Aguero and Bale/Theo. Considering Enrique for Cameron, but Stoke have a home game that GW, so might just drop it. Wont have to take another hit the following GW to field 11 that way.

Was considering that too, but was hoping for a nice long run of good fixtures for Arsenal and don't seem to quite get one around that time.

Confidence? Everton conceded 15 straight games. Everton-Villa averages around 3 goals each fixture at Goodison. Baines might get an assist or another goal, but its too risky imo. I would never captain a defender.

Villa will score. Guaranteed. Baines might get something out of the game though, but meh. He was lucky to get a brace against WBA, and that wont happen again this year.

Good post m8. Can you ever guarantee that someone`s going to score? I just dont see Everton as a team thats able to shut out oppositions, their style is too open and attacking for that. Villa looked dangerous against Newcastle as well.

      Gibbs is 1st choice.

Wenger has been grooming him for years; he gave up Glichy because he had so much faith in Gibbs.

Monreal was signed for cover because Gibbs is injury prone. And Santos is Santos.

what an Arse Mr.Wenger is.. he don't want to spend money and now he bought Monreal for £9M for backup and is still paying Santos min 50K every week 😯 .. he should have got rid of Santos yesterday..

IMO, they will be rotated. I've watched a lot of Malaga, Monreal is a quality signing his not there to be on the bench.

If I got a Fellaini price rise I could sell for 7.6 instead of 7.5... that would open up so many more possibilities for me...

Why did Bertrand get transfered to Villa? My plan was perfect until Hazard comes back. If Mata is injured and doesn't play, Chelsea will probably not get much out of a game against New Castle at home.
