Scout Notes

The Stock Check – Tuesday

Calamitous defending hands Swansea three points as Wigan slip to a defeat that seems likely to finally cost them their Premier League status. The five goals at the DW Stadium dwarf the efforts of City and West Brom at the Etihad, as the two managers shuffle their packs, much to the frustration of us Fantasy managers. Here’s the Stock Check from Tuesday’s pair of matches…

On the Up

Carlos Tevez
The Argentine had started the last seven prior to Saturday’s trip to Swansea, scoring three goals in that run. Dropped to the bench as Roberto Mancini went with Sergio Aguero in a 4-5-1, Tevez was recalled against West Brom tonight and fetched a smart fourteenth assist of the season for Edin Dzeko’s well taken first-half goal. While that was some reward for his frustrated owners over the double Gameweek, Tevez’s starting role against Reading and Norwich perhaps remains uncertain, although his prospects may well be improved should he be benched for the FA Cup final this weekend.

Angel Rangel
Selected on the Scout Picks bench, the Spaniard added to his clean sheet against City with a beautifully taken goal at the DW Stadium tonight – he is currently the top scoring defender in the Gameweek pre-bonus. Rangel has largely been a mainstay in the Swansea back four and, while his return of just one assist is hugely disappointing, he will remain a consideration for our squads next term should Michael Laudrup’s side be handed a kind opening schedule.

Pablo Hernandez
A brace of assists tonight took the Spanish playmaker to eight for the season and helped fill the void left by Michu’s absence with a hamstring injury. Like Rangel, Hernandez’s returns have perhaps dipped below expectations but he will be another worth monitoring: having settled in his first season in the Premier League, there is surely good things to come next term under Laudrup.

Going Down

Roberto Mancini
The City boss won few fans amongst the Fantasy fraternity after fielding a much-changed side that included eight tweaks with a completely different back four to the one that took on Swansea. With the FA Cup final beckoning at the weekend, we perhaps shouldn’t be too surprised to see changes although, having made significant investment in City over the double Gameweek, many will find it hard to swallow. City’s remaining two fixtures at least promise returns, presuming that Mancini recalls his big guns following the Wembley date.

Steve Clarke
Identified as a minor villain in our recent “This Much We Know” article, Clarke lived up to his billing to rival Mancini but juggling his assets for the trip to the Etihad. While we expected changes up front with Shane Long dropping to the bench, the absence of Ben Foster and Gareth McAuley were not anticipated.

Michel Vorm
Stretchered off on 85 minutes, the Dutch stopper looked in a bad way following a clash of heads with team-mate, Ben Davies. The latest reports stated that he was “up and about” post-match: it remains to be seen if Vorm sustained a degree of concussion which would make him a potential doubt for the weekend trip to Old Trafford.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What the hell has Moyes done to deserve the job at Utd? At Everton he's done well with the situation, making them a solid top 7 team with little funds. That's great and all, but how does that set you up for a job like Utd? He could be horribly out of his depth, no experience dealing with a big war chest, no experience dealing with a group of proper world class players. I'll be stunned if it happens... which it looks like it will :/

Well Moyes is Scottish but I take your point. I guess there aren't too many obvious British candidates, but you shouldn't let that compromise the club.

it's not about compromise...the fact is...success among the elite managers is overrated...Fergie had no right being the best manager ever...but he achieved it because the club was patient and loyal to him. Moyes hasn't won silverware but his job at everton has echoes of Fergie.

I don't see how it is overrated. Its like saying Mark Hughes is as good as Mancini, who I believe will get better and more sucessful at City.

what has anyone else done to deserve the job?

you think mourinho should get it because of what he's achieved? bullsh*t

Fergie is the most successful british manager because he is the only one practically given the time to build the success. what moyes has done at everton is remarkable, he has made them into a team that competes with the big guns every year despite not even having much of a budget nor any squad depth.

If there is one british manager that deserves a shot at it, it is Moyes.

      your post is silly

No idea. Holman is the only Aussie I can think of playing as an attacker this season.

    Hart
    Sagna nastasic dawson samba pearce
    Bale mata walcott maloney sissoko
    Tevez rvp lukaku

    2ft 1.4 in bank

Thinking sissoko to coutinho then posibly save the other one for to have 2 for the final week?

    Or are strikers a problem?x

Same front line as me,gutted I bought lukAku instead of Kone. He is your weak link up top.

Would do Sissoko>>>Cout, has fixtures and no Suarez/Gerrard could mean pens (not 100% sure on that)

    Michu owners.

    What is the plan?

    Michu to...

    A) Fellani

    B) Cout

    C) Cazola

    D) Nasri

    E) someone else.

Trying to chase a couple of people in a random league I joined as my one is all sown up now.

      I'm thinking Coutinho...for free.

      Or Walcott...for a hit.

I'm thinking Cout for free. Is the sensible choice. Fellani is my other choice but away to Chelsea last game is putting me off.

I' ve got Fellaini already. Still searching for an alternative to Coutinho but can't find any stand-out options.

I was just about to ask this. Already have A. Have Sturridge so don't want B, and can't afford any of the others

          Same vein of question.

          Michu -> ?

          Felaini, Snod, Morrison, Maloney,

          Studge, Lukaku, Lambert

          Nothing in the bank

    Team:

    Bunn (WBA)

Baines (WHU) - Dawson (stk) - Kompany (rdg)

Fellaini (WHU) - Ramires (avl) - Bale (stk) - Silva (rdg)

Bentekkers (CHE) - RVP (SWA) - Lukkaku (nor)

Bench jussi - Gomez - Wilson - Fig

    1. Gomez > Hendo
    2. Gomez > Cout - Lukkaku > Jrod
    3. Lukkaku > Studge and Gomez > Hendo
    4. Lukkaku/Gomez/Silva > Studge Rosicky and mid 8.4 or under
    5. Same as above > Podolski - Coutinho and Hendo/Rosicky/mid under 6.3

Or what do you think? I have no arsenal cover and don't want Walcott as opponent has him!

    Thanks!
