Scout Mission – Gameweek 11

Our attentions turn to the weekend’s fixtures before yet another international break is upon us. As always, we look at the players, scenarios and tactical set-ups we’ll be keeping a close eye on over the upcoming round of matches.

Coutinho’s Starting Role
The Brazilian’s emergence from the bench at the Emirates saw Brendan Rodgers haul off Aly Cissokho and revert to a back-four against Arsenal. Coutinho was handed the role on the left as the Reds boss switched from 3-4-1-2 to 4-4-2 but Rodgers has previously talked up Coutinho’s prospects as “a number 10”, with many expecting him to be handed the role in “the hole” behind Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. A 4-4-2 would not only keep the Brazilian out wide, it would curtail the recent wing-back roles handed to Cissokho and Glen Johnson and end their out of position prospects ahead of Liverpool’s kind run of fixtures – Saturday’s home fixture with Fulham could afford us a window into Rodgers’ thinking as the Merseysiders go on the attack.

Pantilimon’s Security
The big Romanian has now started the last three games in all competitions ahead of Joe Hart as Manuel Pellegrini’s number one. Pantilimon had produced back-to-back clean sheets before conceding twice at home to CSKA Moscow in midweek but with Hart managing just three shut-outs in the opening nine Gameweeks, the new man in charge in clearly open to altering the goalkeeper pecking order. Another start and clean sheet away to Sunderland this weekend and Pantilimon, at just 4.9 in FPL, may just have a bandwagon on his hands.

Hazard’s Chelsea Return
Dropped from the Chelsea squad for last night’s Champions League win over Schalke after missing a train back from France on Sunday evening, it remains to be seen whether the Belgian will be handed a berth in the XI at home to West Brom. Hazard has started more league games than any Chelsea attacking midfielder and, up till this point, has clearly a favourite of Mourinho’s but the Blues boss went out his way to praise replacement Willian’s display against the German outfit – as Juan Mata has already discovered this season, the Special One is never swayed by reputation and with plenty alternatives, Hazard could be left in the cold once again.

Villa’s Formation
With doubts over Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann, Paul Lambert may be forced to roll out a 3-5-2 again for the visit of Cardiff. Essentially, this bolsters the prospects of Nathan Baker retaining his role in the Villa first XI – coming in at just 3.9 in FPL, he has now started four of the last five and with Lambert’s side heading into a kind run of games with three clean sheets in the previous six, Baker could be a real budget option over the next few fixtures.

Everton’s Attacking Midfield Three
The return of Steven Pienaar has thrown a cat amongst the pigeons in Roberto Martinez’ midfield. While Gareth Barry and James McCarthy look secure in front of the back-four, only Kevin Mirallas has started each of the last three, with Pienaar, Ross Barkley and Leon Osman handed two starts and a sub appearance apiece over that trio of games. Given that Mirallas was hauled off just after the hour mark against Spurs, it’s becoming clear that Martinez’ ploy for freshening up his options behind the lone forward midway through the second period of games is starting to curtail the midfielders game time. Osman was dropped for the first time in Gameweek 9, while Barkley was named a sub for the first time last weekend – Mirallas is now the only attacker to start every game for the Toffees but his owners may be a little concerned by his manager’s recent penchant for tinkering.

Robbie Brady’s Minutes
The Hull midfielder continues to be handed game time off the bench after Steve Bruce’s decision to rush him back from a hernia operation backfired. Brady played the full 90 minutes against Everton upon his return but since then, a couple of late appearances in the second-half against Spurs (seven minutes) and Sunderland (15 minutes) have afforded him little time to make an impact. A start against Southampton this weekend will appease his 10% owners ahead of a home game with Palace – another week of bench-warming duties, though, and many may think twice over holding for the long-term; Brady had racked up 40 points in six games prior to the surgery but has produced just three points since.

Remy’s Central Role
Shifted from the left of a front three to centre forward last week, the Frenchman repaid Alan Pardew’s decision with a sixth goal of the season. Paired with Shola Ameobi as the Magpies boss moved from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 and dropped Hatem Ben Arfa to the bench once again, Remy has now played a part in 50% of his side’s goals since joining on loan from QPR, with an assist also accrued. There’d be no real surprise if he drew a blank away to Spurs this weekend, given that the north London club have seven clean sheets in 10, but with back-to-back home games against Norwich and West Brom directly after the international break, Remy, at 7.7, would remain on the radar for those enticing pair of St James’ Park fixtures.

Laudrup’s Plans for Bony
With Michu sidelined for up to four weeks with dodgy knees and ankles, Michael Laudrup has a real problem in the attacking areas. While the Spaniard has started every Europa League and Premier League match this season, the Swans boss seems reluctant to give his summer signing an extended run of games – Laudrup spoke of Bony’s lack of fitness earlier in the week but surely, you’d think, his match sharpness would only improve by increased game time? It’s no secret that Laudrup’s first choice for the lone forward role was Iago Aspas but having paid Vitesse Arnhem £12m for a player who scored 31 goals in 30 league games last season, now looks the time to show some faith. With a set off kind fixtures on the horizon, starting this week at home to Stoke, Bony will be hoping to finally start proving his worth as the Welsh club try to address a record which has seen them fail to score in three of the last four.

Ben Davies’ Starting Berth
Back in the Swansea starting line-up for this evening’s Europa League clash against Kuban Krasnodar, it remains to be seen if Laudrup will curtail the left-back’s game time come the weekend. Davies has recovered quicker than expected from an ankle injury sustained in the Gameweek 8 home win over Sunderland and Neil Taylor has proven an able deputy, with the Swans conceding just a single goal in the subsequent couple of league matches. Should Davies return to the XI for Sunday’s clash with Stoke, though, he may arrive back on Fantasy radars, with clashes against Fulham, Newcastle, Hull and Norwich in the five Gameweeks following the international break. Granted, he’s slightly pricier than Ashley Williams (5.0 to 4.8) but with two goals to his name already, has shown plenty attacking threat from the back.

    @VALAR MORGHULIS(KEITH)

would just sell Michu and Keep Kolo Toure ? or sell both cuz i still don't know is he going to play or not ?

    i have just 1 FT Michu > Silva / yaya/ /oscar i don't want to sell Toure for a hit.

Take Yaya Toure. He plays all the games, scores goals (free kicks in particular) and assists steadily.

And as per defense, I would replace Kolo with a player of the likes of Ridgewell or Davies or even one of Southampton (Lovren/Fonte/Clyne) all playing all games and looking pretty strong in the back (having conceded only 4)

    All set for this GW?

    Boruc (Davis)
    Dawson Terry Fonte (Zaba, Baker)
    Ramsey Oscar Silva Coutinho
    Lukaku Benteke Suarez (c)

    A) Keep as is
    B) Play Zaba vs Sunderland, bench Oscar/Silva??

    Any suggestions welcome

      Either keep as is

      pr

Play Zaba. Bench either Dawson or Fonte (double Southampton), you dont bench Oscar or Silva when you have them 😛 I am leaning towards this and benching Fonte btw,

Unless Silva is out, of course =)

In just over an hour, in a draft galaxy far from FPL, I will need to make a choice between Mesut Özil and Aaron Ramsey. I can only have 1 of them, and whoever I choose will score me points for the next 10 GW. It's that simple.

However, it's not simple at all really.
I have Özil in FPL, and am yet to jump aboard the Ramsey juggernaught. I'm still clinging to the hope that his form will drop off and Özil will take his rightful place as king of the midfield. Misguided I know.

So I really should pick Ramsey shouldn't I. If I do, then I can rejoice in his points instead of fearing them, and be happy that despite my FPL side still being hampered by his wonder run (and my stubbornness) I'm still profiting. And if finally the form drops, or the injury arrives, then my FPL side will still be in the pink.

But I'm still not sure I can do it. Might just have to flip a coin to force my hand.

Ramsey or Özil. Heads or Tails.

I think that's the main factor yeah.

More assists for Ozil if Wally remembers how to shoot.

Not actually clear if it's less goals for Ramsey though. Initially I thought Ramsey was taking shots that injured attacking midfielders would normally have taken. But Ramsey has scored from central midfield in pretty much every configuration of the Arsenal midfield. With Walcott (a brace), with Cazorla twice, with Gnabry... I think the truth is that his deep positioning lets him get a few free shots from just outside the area every game, and when you've got a shot like his, that's a good chance of points. Lampardesque.

i think cahill will start this gw but just can't keep a guy who has been fit yet only started 2 of the last 7. whole thing is stupid, maybe biased but i think all 4 would be top 10 defenders if starters, which for all barring cahill they were normally!

Can't argue with that. Only just realising that stacking one position would be a bad idea. No way I wanted to drop Shawcross and Rangel. Kompany will inevitably take another 10 weeks to get back too.

Cech, Hazard, Giroud > Pantilimon, Coutinho, Aguero for an 8pt hit?

Not sure whether Pantilimon will start or not, got a clean sheet last week so should be given a chance.

Want Aguero in my team so got to get rid of Hazard really, seemed the best alternative...

You can still ride the blip, if it is a blip. Plus, is it so unbelievable that players change over time?

I rode Papiss Cisse's 'blip', and at the end of the day, I got the points.

Who will score more points over the next 10 weeks.

Hmm maybe. I keep looking over the midfielder list with the same end result: blah

I'd probably do Coutinho because of respective fixtures but if you want Ramsey then you may as well get him in.

Yeah I considered Cout but he's just come back and with the info on here suggesting he may not play in the hole I see it as a bit of a risk. I may just have to swallow my pride and get in the sure thing that is Rambo.

    boruc
    vidic dawson baines (burner wilson)
    michu ramsey barkley hazard (januzaj)
    lukaku suarez aguero

A: michu >> coutinho (if silva is unfit)
    B: michu + vidic >> silva + nasty (-4)
    C: michu + dawson >> silva + williams (-4)

I really like C coz even though dawson has done well for me, his fix in gw12/13 are really bad and two good fixtures in gw14/15 which are both away, williams has good fix in gw's 11/12/14/15.

Also even though utd have been bad, i really want vidic for gw12 when most teams apart from utd have a tough game

current rate is 22.8. i'd go about 15, which to put that into context for a no penalty taking mid is more than gerrard or lampard have ever managed

    Thoughts for this weekend?

    Boruc
    Zabaleta Toure Rat Clyne (Bennett)
Ozil Ramsey Barkley ( Michu Brady)
    Aguero Sturridge Rooney

Who to replace for Michu and who to captain?

    Thanks folks

We have the same issue.... I was thinking to replace michu with either nasri or mirallas. what do you think?

Captain for you would be sturridge or aguero... i prefer the former...

Sturridge is not the kind of player to make assists, and with Suarez back in (strongly) I don't see him making many points (maybe he makes around 8). Aguero on the other hand is exploding,
Just consider Aguero has scored 8 goals and produced 7 assists in just 10 games,
Sturridge, on other hand has scored 8 goals and produced just 2 assists.
Aguero is the main striker at City,
Sturridge is second to Suarez (scored many goals, in Suarez's absence).

So, I would captain Aguero, if I were in your situation.
Though, I have Suarez, Aguero and Rooney up front... so I will captain Suarez.

Michu out for one of the following:
From Tot'ham: Sigurdsson (3goals already though he doesnt play always) , Paulinho (starts every game) and Eriksen might get going scoring

      Everton: MIrallas

      Southampton: Lallana

United: Januzaj (he is not playing in CH.L. and as such is fresh, and whenever he plays he boosts the team)

      City: Navas/Fernandinho

Chelsea - Lampard (he takes the penalties) and Mourinho loves him.

Mirallas plays always, Nasri has too much competition.
      Consider Oscar, Hazard, Yaya, Brady...

Oscar is in my squad. So i wont take Hazard from the same team. Yaya is too expensive. I can only manage to get some one not more than 8.9... Brady? Hull doesn't score...

T'ham scored just 1 goal more than hull. Brady scored 3 and assisted one. (he took part in 50% of hull's goals, and at just 5. (something) he is a bargain.
I bet you have Ramsey (who hasn't)
Consider Sigurdsson (doensn't play as much recently, though)
You even have Januzaj, he is not playing CHL games, so he will definitely play against Arsenal and others, and he has potential to give 5+ points per game, and sometimes 10+.
          You also have Nolan.
I would pick Brady or Mirallas

Your thoughts on this team, this GW?

    Boruc
    Vertonghen - Fonte - Baker (Shawcross-Ridgewell)
Hazard - Ramsey - Januzaj - Yaya (Mutch)
    Suarez - Rooney - Aguero

I know my defense is not optimal, but all play at home.
Actually i have 8 players playing at home and just 3 away
