Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Fifth Round Draw

We’ve reached the Fifth Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, this weekend, and are on the lookout for a new face to lift the silverware after our two remaining previous winners, Goonerdave and sleepingmaster, were both eliminated:

Pryston North End FC and Albany City were the respective victors and will now take on Team Hayemaker and ec3dm over Gameweek 17. We’re also keeping an eye on Hillbillypete – having knocked out current champion Wild Rover, he continue to remain in with a shout of the silverware and is up against site regular The Sarjeant in the Fifth Round.

Our site moderator, Applebonkers, is also in the hat and is something of an underdog for the weekend, with his opponent BJ sitting just inside the top 5,000. Tony Hibbert’s Love Child is the top-ranked manager in this week’s draw – sitting in 570th overall, he now squares up to Nepalock.

Looking at some of the site regulars, Malcolm Tucker for England manager is up against 11 Men in Flight, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad will pit his wits against TOMDN, while 2ndMan is up against mickey30101985 for a place in the last 32.

As always, we name-check the highest scoring manager from the previous round. Both Michu at De Gea Bar and Andy Paps achieved this accolade, with 97 points apiece, and will now go head-to-head with Son of Rambo and dino_dem next time around.

The lowest-scoring team to advance to the Fifth Round belongs to Mr T. He’ll be hoping to improve upon a score of 63 points as he prepares to do battle with heco87.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Fifth Round details.

Once again, good luck to those still in with a shout.

I got Nasri in when Silva was injured, and although his returns haven`t been amazing, i still think he`s worth keeping.atleast until Jan wc.. I just think City are going to create more than Everton and i rate their service higher, along with Negredo`s abilities above Lukaku`s.. I`ll be able to afford whoever i want both in defence and midfield after the downgrade anyway, so money really has no affect on my decision..

L'equipe in France reporting that he's been stitched up and might be back as early as boxing day (West Ham away).

Ravel or Januzaj out for Walcott?

Since I could reassess at the WC, might be interesting to keep Januzaj with RVP out and Rooney presumably not forcing Kagawa wide..

Ravel is more nailed on but Januzaj looked decent last couple games. I'd say keep morrison as he'll prob be sub for you most weeks and you'll want a definate starter.

Probably. He did come into the side not long after Sturridge went but thought it was Henderson on the right most of the season so he's the direct competitor.

Keep your eyes peeled. Consider if Liverpool thrash Cardiff and Cardiff owner uses that as an excuse to sack Mackay after bizarrely falling out with his request for more players in January in public.

    More unjust things have happened.

When I first heard his response to Mackay I thought he was being rash, however the official statement makes good points, they've spent the 7th most in the prem. etc

I read that, but at the same time you have to make a choice when you go up, either go budget and be prepared to go down or spend and ensure survival. No point being in the middle, ie. spend a bit less and be relegated. Once you commit to the latter strategy there's no point pulling the plug midseason. Clearly they feel the Prem is financially crucial enough to spend serious money on, in which case they better complete the job.

Mackay is doing what every manager does really, wanting to improve the squad. And with the exception of Cornelius which is a pretty mystifying signing they have all been useful for the team.

To be fair to Malky, in every Cardiff game i've watched live(about 5 or 6), Medel has been the best player on the pitch for them. Cornelius has been injured, and is just getting back to fitness, i'm sure he'll come good post Christmas. And Caulker, club captain, leader, only 21 and will only develop. Need I say any more?
