Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Seventh Round Draw

We’ve reached the Seventh Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, as sponsored by Paddy Power, after 16 more teams were eliminated in the previous batch of matches. As we cast an eye over the weekend’s results and look to the next round, those still in with a shout should note that the upcoming fixtures will be played out over Gameweek 21 – the 10 fixtures on New Year’s Day do not count towards your points hauls:

Site regular Tony Hibberts Love Child squeezed into the last 16 by a one-point margin. Having won his tie 60-59, he now sits in 268th overall up – the highest-ranked manager remaining in the draw – and is up against Tdubb05 for a place in the Quarter-Finals.

Site moderator applebonkers is still in with a shout of snapping up the silverware. A 63 point-haul was enough to see him through last time around and earn him a spot against sim716 when the cup resumes in Gameweek 21.

The 2ndMan deserves a mention here. A tally of 72 points was higher than any other manager over the last round and sees him square up to 11 Men in Flight in the next round. Yes the Sess! racked up 71 points – the second-highest haul of Round 6 – and will now face FPLAaron, who, with an overall position of 464,000, is the rank outsider for the tournament.

Finally, Tal was the lowest-scoring manager to earn a spot in the next round after registering 54 points in Gameweek 19 – he now goes head-to-head with EricCantona_707.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Seventh Round details.

As always, we wish good luck to the final 16 as they brace themselves for battle!

KOFLOK and anyone else who's interested in a 3 way rotation where 2 defenders are played each week.

These are the best I could find (I was only looking at the cheap teams).

Yeah pretty much. Cardiff + Sunderland + a defender with decent fixtures (for 5 or so weeks maybe?) that you can change to another defender with good fixtures would be great. All depends how willing you are to spend a transfer on a defender.

Yeah currently I'm looking at West Ham defense up to GW 29/30 and then switch to Stoke / Aston Villa GW 30/31 onwards

I don't really rate Hull's away form. Newcastle is a dark horse and I'm considering them as well.

I really rate Hull's home form but yeah their away form isn't the best.

If Williamson stays in the starting 11 for the rest of the season he'll be excellent value.

Tbh, selling value is pretty pointless. There's players in our teams who we won't ever get rid of, bar injury or suspension i.e. Suarez.

The only way a true selling value can be found, is if you add up the total of all the players you would sell if you had a wildcard available right now. That's how much money you really have to invest.

      I'd play Brunt over Barkley.

In the past 12 games he's played in, he's only gotten a single goal, fair enough some were for only 20/30 minutes. But Brunt has had 1 goal and 4 assists in the past 12 games he's featured in, in one of those he only featured for 2 minutes.

Plus West Brom are at home.

Suarez in a better form despite 2 away blanks.
Hull have never kept a CS away from home.
        Suarez a flat track bully.
Only City score more goals at home than Liverpool.
Suarez is directly involved in 75% of Liverpool goals.

The price difference of ~3.5m (comparing Sturridge price to Suarez SV) is basically allows us to

      Lukaku -> Rooney / Aguero.

But is the points from Rooney / Aguero over Lukaku is worth the points Suarez over Sturridge?

      Don't think so

Most had SAR before Aguero got hurt so I don't think it'll be a problem with a WC to have that strikeforce again. Don't think you'll need to make that downgrade unless you realllllllllly wanna gamble

all the people doubting Rooney..if United makes some signings he'll be even better..yes he loses pens/FKs when RVP is back, but he will still be a monster with someone who can finish to feed..

great for united on the field, not so sure about fantasy potential once RVP+ new buy (if!) comes in..he will still score+ assist in the odd games but not with this consistency,

I'm looking unlikely to be able to afford Rooney in the WC if I keep Silva, Hazard and Wally with Kun upfront. Not sure I'd want to ditch them. SIlva and Lukaku or Cabaye -esque mid and Rooney. Hmmm.

if Kun was back next week I would have

        Mannone - Lewis
        Coleman - Mert - Burner - Ward - Chester
        Hazard - Silva - Walcott - Ki - Sterling
        Suarez - Rooney - Aguero

and 0 left in the bank..going to be tough and may consider shipping Rooney at the end of the WC and going 4 big mids with Lukaku back..so much back and forth

Don't know how many people on here follow American Football but I figured this might be fun to do now that the NFL season is almost through and BPL is halfway finished. So here are some of the parallels between European Football (specifically BPL) and American Football-
A player that was suspended at the beginning of the season but has since become a top player:
NFL: Josh Gordon, BPL: Luis Suarez
    Defender that loves to score:
NFL: DeAngelo Hall, BPL: Seamus Coleman
    Insane team owner:
NFL: Jerry Jones, BPL: Vincent Tan
The best player last year but has been contained by injuries this season:
NFL: Adrian Peterson, BPL: Robin van Persie
Breakout player last year but this season has disappointed:
NFL: Trent Richardson, BPL: Miguel Michu
Player that makes those around him better:
NFL: Peyton Manning, BPL: Sergio Aguero
Disappointing player last year but this season has excelled
NFL: LeSean McCoy, BPL: Wayne Rooney
Player that has disappointed since changing teams:
NFL: Trent Richardson, BPL: Fernando Torres
Amount of people that play Fantasy Football:
NFL: 30-40 million people, BPL: 3 million

Is it a coincidence that Bardsley's goals came against City and Che? Maybe not.

Personally I'd prefer Mannone at the same price, mainly due to the save points (easily gets 1-2 every week)

NBCSN has bought up all the rights from Fox Soccer and usually shows three matches on Saturday: early fixture, most popular midday game, and then NBC shows the late game. On Sundays if there are two games it usually shows both. This applies to the whole country and since I live in New York I have to wake up at 7:30 AM to watch the games which isnt that bad but since Las Vegas is three hours behind NY, you will need to wake up at 4:30 to catch the early fixture
