Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 22

After back-to-back double Gameweeks it’s time to assess the usual info including Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup, with one eye on Gameweek 23.

Gameweek 20 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs West BromSaido Berahino
Aston Villa vs SwanseaJonathan de Guzman
Hull vs FulhamTom Huddlestone
Man City vs Crystal PalaceYannick Bolasie

Fulham vs West HamScott Parker
Liverpool vs HullLuis Suarez
Southampton vs ChelseaOscar
Stoke vs EvertonLeighton Baines
Sunderland vs Aston VillaGabriel Agbonlahor
West Brom vs NewcastleSaido Berahino
Man United vs TottenhamVlad Chiriches

Over the double Gameweek, four defenders, eleven midfielders and five forwards shared the awards. Eden Hazard picked up his seventh of the season and has now been awarded more MoTM awards than any other player, one more than Wayne Rooney and Curtis Davies. West Brom’s wonderkid Saido Berahino picked up the award twice over the two matches and comes in at only 5.9 million – for those opting for an expensive five in midfield, he looks a decent enabler.

Gameweek 20 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Hugo Lloris, Vito Mannone, David Marshall, David Stockdale and Jussi Jaaskelainen were the top shot-stoppers. Jaaskelainen has now joined Brad Guzan and Simon Mignolet at the top of the bonus points table with 10 additional points.

In defence, a total of 13 players gathered bonus, eight for tackles and eight for passes completed – the three players who managed to achieve both were Kyle Naughton, Daniel Agger and Vincent Kompany. Crystal Palace full-back Joel Ward is still the top defender for bonus points overall with an additional 18 points.

In midfield, 30 players earned bonus points – 19 for tackling and 20 for passes. Several players managed to gather both over the two games but a special mention for Cheick Tiote and Steve Sidwell, who both gained six additional points each after a combination of passing and tackling. Liverpool’s Lucas is now the top bonus-point darling in midfield, with 30 additional points earned.

Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle will have impressed his manager Jose Mourinho as he was the only forward to earn bonus for four completed tackles, earning himself an additional two points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout Members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RamseyArsenal5.821.16%
OzilArsenal8.89.35%
GiroudArsenal8.55.63%
JagielkaEverton6.95.13%
LovrenSouthampton5.23.76%

Injury reigns supreme as all of the players mentioned above have found themselves hampered by the festive schedule. Dejan Lovren returned to the first team last week after a bout of illness, whilst Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are both in contention for Arsenal’s trip to Villa on Monday.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
HazardChelsea8.86.64%
LallanaSouthampton5.95.73%
ColemanEverton6.53.90%
NegredoMan City8.63.75%
ToureMan City8.63.64%

The top two transfers in, Eden Hazard and Adam Lallana, look like direct replacements for Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey as they come in at virtually the same price. Yaya Toure and Seamus Coleman’s form has been too good to ignore and it’s easy to why they are amongst the top five in. Alvaro Negredo looks like something of a stop-gap whilst we await the return of Sergio Aguero.

Gameweek 22 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 22, there is an opportunity for three armband options if you choose to use a transfer for Monday night’s game.

Our Strategy:
Emmanuel Adebayor (Crystal Palace at Home) → Luis Suarez (Stoke Away) → Mesut Ozil (Aston Villa Away)

For Saturday January 11, Romelu Lukaku is also an option as he plays at home to Norwich. For the fixtures on Sunday 12, we opt for a captain change to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez who squares up to Stoke at the Britannia. Alternatively, a Man City asset is an option.

Arsenal roll up to Villa Park on Monday the 13th and, with Aston Villa’s defence looking shaky in recent weeks, Ozil looks a good option for points – as an added bonus, Arsenal play at home to Fulham on Saturday 18, where again he looks an enticing option.

Seems like most people including myself on here have some strategy to get Aguero back into our teams when he starts getting minutes again. Can't really argue with that, his scoring and stats speak for themself.

But...Will people be reluctant to bring him back in if our replacements are scoring well? Theres a good chance one of Lukaku, Giroud, Ade, Negredo ect could go on a tear in the coming weeks.
It could be tough decision to drop someone in form for someone coming back from an injury. Time will tell I suppose.

You don't have to get him as soon as he's back, wait till he hits form if you want but you do need some idea of what to do if he scores 4 in his first game back and looks like doing it again.

It's good to look down the road and make some plans for future gameweeks. That being said, those plans are often altered anyways by injury, bookings, etc......My take on Fantasy Prem is to live in the now. When Aguero is back, then I will truly assess what may or may not be necessary in terms of transfers.

I've got two rotes to aguero.

1 is giroud plus my aguero trust (which matures on his return to action)
2 is Ozil - Rambo and Ade to Aguero.

Form will likely dictate which route i take.

Like you say, it would be super hard to drop either if they were scoring since they've got good fixtures

Can we have a hot topic on the options for replacing Rooney please?
Negredo - because City free scoring
    Lukaku - vs opposition
    Giroud - for coverage
JRod - differential punt and price rises

Seem to be the 4 options being bandied about.

I think, there is massive split when it comes to JRod

some think he's excellent value (I'm in this camp) whilst others think he's over-rated (some only dismiss him as they have an in-built big club bias) I'm not on wc so I think I'm taking the punt. It gives me 2-3 weeks to asses him before I make a final call. If you can't punt on someone before a wc (especially the jan one which has a small and finite usage period) when can you?

It matters because if several of his goals were jammy, you would not expect him to score more that way. That's what makes them jammy. Despite what some people might think, no-one is intrinsically lucky.

It's my opinion that several of JRod's goals were a bit jammy. He doesn't have very good technique and if he were given the same chances again, he would miss several of them.

When you're dealing with luck, anything could happen but you have to play the percentages.

I'd drop Skrtel personally, Liverpool don't keep clean sheets. And Sterling is about to lose his place as Sturridge comes back and the formation changes.

Front line is fine but maybe work towards getting Lallana for Sterling by downgrading Skrtlel and even Whittingham. Maybe even drop Mannine for a non-playing keeper if it helps.

              Hope that helps.

What's the likely effect of Rooney and RVP's absence on Januzaj's game time this week ?...From where I'm sat it feels like he's gone from promising talented bench fodder to somebody they will be pinning their team sheet to...Nailed on for a start ?

    A) Ozil->Ramsey now, Next GW Negredo->Aguero
    B) Wait until they're both healthy and accumulate 2 FT's

With both Roo and Walcott out, I have can combine more or less any combination of a mid and a forward til the end of the month (although I already have Suarez, Haz, Silva for ex).

Im thinking about one of these miss: Yaya, Özil, Gerrard

and one of these strikers: Adebayor, Negredo, Giroud

Which combo would you go for?

Not the most exciting question, but who to start this week (in this case assume Burner plays)?
    A) Clyne (WBA)
    B) Turner (WHU)

Tough choice, if you have Marshall A, if not B. West Brom more likely to score.

Stay away from JWP. Never plays and will slowly eat away at your team value. That's been my experience with him all season. Given how much he's plummeted in value, I may be forced to keep him on my WC and I would have spent the whole season having JWP produce 1-pointer after 1-pointer on my bench.

    My finalised WC team

    Davis

    Coleman Kos Terry

    Silva Gerrard Ozil Hazard

    Adebayor Suarez Lukaku

    subs boruc noone chester olsson

Overall im happy noone is the only rotation risk of my outfield players.

No plan to get kun as i think ade and luk will deliver good points till the end of the season and i would rather have those 2 than kun and a cheap 3rd forward.
