Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 22

After back-to-back double Gameweeks it’s time to assess the usual info including Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup, with one eye on Gameweek 23.

Gameweek 20 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs West BromSaido Berahino
Aston Villa vs SwanseaJonathan de Guzman
Hull vs FulhamTom Huddlestone
Man City vs Crystal PalaceYannick Bolasie
Norwich vs Man UnitedNemanja Vidic
Cardiff vs SunderlandFraizer Campbell

Crystal Palace vs NorwichJason Puncheon
Fulham vs West HamScott Parker
Liverpool vs HullLuis Suarez
Southampton vs ChelseaOscar
Stoke vs EvertonLeighton Baines
Sunderland vs Aston VillaGabriel Agbonlahor
West Brom vs NewcastleSaido Berahino
Man United vs TottenhamVlad Chiriches

Over the double Gameweek, four defenders, eleven midfielders and five forwards shared the awards. Eden Hazard picked up his seventh of the season and has now been awarded more MoTM awards than any other player, one more than Wayne Rooney and Curtis Davies. West Brom’s wonderkid Saido Berahino picked up the award twice over the two matches and comes in at only 5.9 million – for those opting for an expensive five in midfield, he looks a decent enabler.

Gameweek 20 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Hugo Lloris, Vito Mannone, David Marshall, David Stockdale and Jussi Jaaskelainen were the top shot-stoppers. Jaaskelainen has now joined Brad Guzan and Simon Mignolet at the top of the bonus points table with 10 additional points.

In defence, a total of 13 players gathered bonus, eight for tackles and eight for passes completed – the three players who managed to achieve both were Kyle Naughton, Daniel Agger and Vincent Kompany. Crystal Palace full-back Joel Ward is still the top defender for bonus points overall with an additional 18 points.

In midfield, 30 players earned bonus points – 19 for tackling and 20 for passes. Several players managed to gather both over the two games but a special mention for Cheick Tiote and Steve Sidwell, who both gained six additional points each after a combination of passing and tackling. Liverpool’s Lucas is now the top bonus-point darling in midfield, with 30 additional points earned.

Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle will have impressed his manager Jose Mourinho as he was the only forward to earn bonus for four completed tackles, earning himself an additional two points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout Members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RamseyArsenal5.821.16%
OzilArsenal8.89.35%
GiroudArsenal8.55.63%
JagielkaEverton6.95.13%
LovrenSouthampton5.23.76%

Injury reigns supreme as all of the players mentioned above have found themselves hampered by the festive schedule. Dejan Lovren returned to the first team last week after a bout of illness, whilst Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are both in contention for Arsenal’s trip to Villa on Monday.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
HazardChelsea8.86.64%
LallanaSouthampton5.95.73%
ColemanEverton6.53.90%
NegredoMan City8.63.75%
ToureMan City8.63.64%

The top two transfers in, Eden Hazard and Adam Lallana, look like direct replacements for Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey as they come in at virtually the same price. Yaya Toure and Seamus Coleman’s form has been too good to ignore and it’s easy to why they are amongst the top five in. Alvaro Negredo looks like something of a stop-gap whilst we await the return of Sergio Aguero.

Gameweek 22 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 22, there is an opportunity for three armband options if you choose to use a transfer for Monday night’s game.

Our Strategy:
Emmanuel Adebayor (Crystal Palace at Home) → Luis Suarez (Stoke Away) → Mesut Ozil (Aston Villa Away)

For Saturday January 11, Romelu Lukaku is also an option as he plays at home to Norwich. For the fixtures on Sunday 12, we opt for a captain change to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez who squares up to Stoke at the Britannia. Alternatively, a Man City asset is an option.

Arsenal roll up to Villa Park on Monday the 13th and, with Aston Villa’s defence looking shaky in recent weeks, Ozil looks a good option for points – as an added bonus, Arsenal play at home to Fulham on Saturday 18, where again he looks an enticing option.

I've had Lukaku too many times this season, captained him 2-3 times against favourable opposition and he did nought. Aguero had a similar away record at one point, and while Aguero is much better, I fancy Negredo to make a mockery of the record at some point.

I'd fancy Ade over Negredo though,so,if you don't want to move Lukaku,go with your gut and stick.

Who's the best Rooney replacement? Other non-Suarez forward is Lukaku. Thinking either one or two gameweeks before I wildcard.

    Negredo (new, CAR)

Doesn't do much away from home but no reason why that couldn't change this week as City score goals for fun.

    Adebayor (CRY, swa)

Installed as the main man under Sherwood. Scored well so far, although there are suggestions he has overperformed and won't keep it up. Palace at home may not be that easy as they will be organised and defensive.

    Welbeck/Hernandez (SWA, che)

Would be a one week punt really. Man United look a bit rubbish but there is a good team in there somewhere.

    Giroud (avl, FUL)

Donkey but has the best two fixtures probably. Can work out in short term bursts.

    Torres (hul, MAN)

    #Flair

I'm leaning towards Negredo I think. Any thoughts?

      No Bezza?

3 goals in the last 3 games.

      Nailed on.

Plays for a team that needs to win games to survive.

      Pens.

      History of explosions.

You dare to mention Torres.....but not the kiss stealing, wheeling dealing, limousine riding, jet flying, no running, fag smoking, son of a gun?

I couldn't work out who Bezza was until you mentioned fag smoking. Would be a flair pick, good fixture v a tired Sunderland this week.

    What you reckon folks?

    A) - 4 and take Rooney out. For either Negredo, Rodriguez, Berbatov or Adebayor.

    B) Play Cabaye, keep the 4 points, but risk having to play Ward if Cabaye misses out.

    or

    C) Get you know what out.

      Similar predicament here.

4 pointer for Rooney to Negredo or hold and have either Ravel or Gabbidon off there bench.

Thing is, Negredo may be short lived as Kun apparent; is coming back next week.

Decent chance for Ade, not looking that likely with Welbz but there may be more of an uptake once people get home and Rooney/RVP news filters down.

I think Adebayor is the player I'm most concerned about not owning this weekend, he can be a frustrating player sometimes but when he's in form he's more or less unstoppable.

Palace looking more solid under Pulis and could be the type of team he will struggle to motivate himself for. Having said that I am wondering should i take hit to get him in!!

Pulis' tactics and the Arsenal game are basically what I'm hoping will conspire to frustrate owners, not feeling confident though!

Should I just save my WC TEAM now?

    Marshall ¤ Mannone

    Coleman ¤ Koscielny ¤ Azpilicueta ¤ Ward ¤ Chester

    Hazard ¤ Lallana ¤ Eriksen ¤ Silva ¤ Mutch

    JRod ¤ Suarez ¤ Lukaku

    I have a shitty team value unfortunately = 101.6M
    In bank: 3.6M*

3.4M will go to upgrade Lukaku ➡ Aguero next week
    Cheers! 🙂

Rooney's Facebook. "Agreed with the manager and the medical team that some warm weather training and recuperation would help this niggling injury I have been trying to play through. Gutted I am not available for selection tomorrow, but sure the lads will give everything to get the right result. As I said earlier today the crowd can help the team's confidence massively so hopefully everyone will get behind the lads and stay with them and the manager throughout the game."
