Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Quarter Final Draw

The Fantasy Football Scout Cup, as sponsored by Paddy Power, is now down to the final eight managers after resuming action last weekend. All eight of our remaining quarter-finalists sit inside the top 70,000 in the overall Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings, though one of our managers will enter the next round as firm favourite:

Cunny Funts is the man in question – a total score of 1,373 so far earns him a ranking of 1,462 in FPL. He’s up against Yes the Sess!, who is the lowest-ranked manager still in with a shout of the silverware – currently nestled just inside the top 62,000, he’s very much the underdog in this tie, having scraped through with a 58-point haul in Gameweek 21.

Sim716 (61,243 overall) squares up to Tdubb05 (45,088) for a place in the semi-finals. The former eliminated our moderator, Applebonkers, last time around, whilst the latter will fancy his chances, having knocked out previous favourite Tony Hibbert’s Love Child.

Tal goes head-to-head with 11 Men in Flight this time around. This quarter-final is the most evenly matched on paper, with respective rankings of 45,190 and 32,963. Whilst Tal has already played the winter wildcard, his opponent’s is currently active ahead of the weekend deadline.

Our final match-up sees ec3dm take on Ajax. The latter has activated the wildcard button and, with an overall ranking of 27,664 to his opponent’s 56,637, is the more fancied to progress.

As always, we wish final eight the best of luck as they brace themselves for battle!

I like it and I'm jealous! Not a fan of rotating keepers, but those are the two I'd have.
Good plan going forward as well.

few wildcard questions for you both:

        1) davies or mannone as back up to boruc??

        2) kolarov or zaba

        3) how likely ageuro to start?

          2) Zaba
          3) 75%

          Zabaleta long term
Tough one, though i'd say more likely than not.

Im still tempted to wildcard. If I could get in a third decent defender I probably would. I can get the same team but only 4.5 defender instead of Kolarov.

Was looking at one of those two and use the Ozil downgrade to boost them up later. Just worried about being priced out of getting a similar team. Im tempted to join you.

the way i see it is, if i wildcard next week, the team i pick will be pretty similar. this week the fixtures are great so might as well cash in on the potential 15-20pts difference i may gain

        hmm interesting

Was looking at Boruc/Davis with Boruc every week

for 0.4 more I can go Boruc/Adrian and always play the guy at home.

Of course that carries it's own risks with those unexpected away clean sheets whilst the guy at home concedes.

        if A

        DDG

Rafa, Smalling, Vidic, Evra (swap Smalling for Evans if Evans is fit)

        Carrick, Fletcher

        Valencia, Kagawa, Januzaj

        Welbeck

        If B

Same team but with Rooney in for Kagawa

I know Chica has a good record v Chelsea, but I don't think he's anything more than a great substitute

Wilshere apparently played deep against Villa on Monday alongside Flamini and was regularly the furthest forward and central midfielder. If I hadn't already gone Ozil on WC, I'd be taking Wilshere all day long with Theo being out.

Gnabry is a great punt, well I say that as I've got him, I can't think of anyone better at that price in a better team against asker opposition. Wenger has said he'll be playing a lot more now Theo is out.

        a) Boruc/Davis so Boruc every week and hope for save points in tougher games

        b) Boruc/Adrian and play the guy at home every week. Riskier as you could end up with a unexpected away CS on the bench whilst the guy you start gets 2

I'm thinking B, in case you want a double up in Southampton defense and Lallana.

I've stuck with one keeper this season and I don't see me going back to rotating keepers to be honest.

I'm still undecided JK; the more I look at it, the more I favour A, with Adrian only having started 3 PL games. As well as potentially having points on the bence, they could also be rotation with Jussi to contend with...

Keeper rotation rarely works. Most of the big clean sheets (loads of saves, bonus etc) come away from home, sad to miss out on those

Is there any point taking out Negredo for Aguero when he has been racking up the goals in the last 2 weeks?

        Or I could have both?

Fwiw Don I posted this earlier , before I got news on Ramsey 🙁
I've made up my mind I'm doing : Negredo > Aguero (ft ) , It was why I kept back money in the first place after Wc , I'm not losing value and I'm not pissing about all day humming and hawing , Pelle has stressed the importance of his return : http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25754418
And looking ahead at city's fixtures here's my thoughts :
          Cardiff (h) - Aguero / Negredo start.
West Ham (a) - Dzeko start may rest both A/N
          Watford (h) - Dzeko start , 45/45 for A/N
Spurs (a) - Aguero / Negredo start And IMO Pelle will follow this kind of pattern ,
There are now enough games to please Dzeko as well , in fact he needs his 3 strikers like United did in 99 , But the bottom line is Aguero is the man to start the important games and with his fitness and physique he's more than capable of 70mins each time. So there I'm sorted , what could go wrong ? http://i.imgur.com/R2Gniv1.gif

        I have Ramsey , 2.3 itb for Ned > Aguero , 1ft :
        Current front 8 ;
        Silva , Ozil , haz , Ramsey , Januzzi
        Suarez , Negredo , Jrod.
        Would you :

        A - Ned > Aguero ( as planned , SAj)
B - Ramsey > Whilshire / other 7.1 or spend Aguero cash and upgrade.
C - save and play jan / Ned

The main question for me is whether Agüero can rise to 100% in a single day tomorrow. Otherwise, I'd rather wait til Saturday.

Precisely this. It'll be a case of closely monitoring tomorrow and, if finances dictate, pressing the button as late as possible. I'm hoping just a rise tonight and bring Aguero in on Saturday evening

He won't. It may be tight. 26k have brought him today already and it's not even 5pm.
The more people that log on today and realise he's about to rise the more will get him tonight instead of tomorrow. Leaving a lot less people to push him up tomorrow. I expect another 15k to get him today.

I usually buy in this scenario, but I'd be taking a hit on a healthy Erickson in a match where he could get points, and switch out Lukaku in his last really favorable match for a while. For once, I'd like to just save the transfer, eat a .1 rise and be semi-sensible.

I haven't saved a FT for a while, I will be this week. I hope it doesn't back fire but I too have Eriksen. Let's chill and enjoy the rare feeling of making no transfers for a week.
I am benching Eriksen however and playing Gnabry.

Apparently Moyes thought winning the community shield was some kind of big thing.

" In contrast,Moyes arrived from Everton without a top-level trophy as manager, although that soon changed when United beat FA Cup winners Wigan to lift the Community Shield on 11 August.

Van Persie says Moyes was surprised when the United players refused to get too carried away following that 2-0 success at Wembley.

"We are used to winning," said Van Persie. "If you win, it's a normal day at the office. After the Community Shield win, none of the players really celebrated, or played music, as it was the way things were."

Wildcard has been played... any thoughts

        Boruc / Cheap

        Sagna / A Williams / Bardsley / Ward / Chester

        Hazard / Oscar / Navas / Eriksen / Januzaj

        Suarez / Negredo / Giroud

2.4mil in the bank (2mil reserved for Negredo to Aguero)

One thought was Sagna to Gibbs and Williams to Rangel? Just not sure Gibbs is nailed on, everytime I buy him I get 3 good games and then an injury. Is Monreal out?

Any other thoughts. Defence is a bit light but I want a strong midfield/attack

Monreal is out but details are not clear. It was initially thought he broke some metatarsals (which would have put him out for the rest of the season) but now it seems like twisted ligaments (not sure on the timescale here). I've just gone Kosc myself it's less of a risk and you're less likely to have to waste an FT later.

Man City have scored more goals than any team this season in England by some distance and are a bit leaky at the back. For me at least 1 str and 1 midf are essential.

I can't see the point of wasting a City spot with a defender even though the fullbacks get forward.

          Reasons

          1) Rotation
          2) Poor cleanie record
          3) Mid and striking firepower - wastes a spot. City are in a different league for points...

Had a loooong busy day. Got a couple of questions for those of you with greater knowledge levels.

        1. Will Aguero start this weekend?
        2. If he does will he play more than 60 ( I don't think he will and Negredo could be a better option)
        3. Drop which striker: Adebayor or Lukaku?

No point asking if he'll start, we don't know and decision is split so a lot of people will be wrong and a lot right.
Most are hanging on to Negredo as he has great form (6 goals in 3)
Lukaku, because of form. But be wary that Spurs may stoop 4-4-2.

It's just TS's words about wanting to play Chadli and Lamela more, it just got me thinking. On the other hand he has won 5 and drawn 1 of his first 6.

Yeah thats why he probably won't. But Townsend is back too. Going to be very interesting. I would like to see more of Lamela. Chadli is awful.

Yeah it does I toyed with the idea and it gives me Ward for Faye and Noone for Ovid... Much better options but I think I will risk this on the WC

I will most likely transfer Ozil out soon and Mert to Kosc can also be possible!

Team is great and it's dodge with 1 keeper and Chester as the only sub (esp with Kolorov) But it gives such an awesome team I don't think I could play Ward once everyone there was fit

Worth the risk for the week with the WC I think!

Not necessarily. No-one can tell but from what Wenger's been saying he's pretty keen on Gnabry. Ox is pretty versatile and can play anywhere, plus Wenger has said he sees him as a Gerrard-type player in the future.

TLDR; no-one knows at the moment for sure.

        Negredo > Aguero done.

Don't care if Aguero doesn't start this weekend. I had planned for the move anyway and Aguero is the main man.

Who to start out of Jrod, Bardsley or Gabbidon?

subs order at the moment pozuelo, gabbi, bardsley... 2 defenders on the bench with decent fixtures.
