Champions League Picks – Semi-Finals, First Leg

Our coverage of the official UEFA Fantasy Champions League game returns this afternoon. With just four teams left in this year’s competition, our options are a little restricted ahead of tonight’s 7.30 pm deadline – nonetheless, we still manage to hand-pick a differential from each of the remaining sides for your consideration:

Filipe Luis – the Atletico left-back sets you back just 5.5 ahead of tonight’s home encounter with Chelsea. With Eden Hazard a major doubt, the visitors are likely to be stunted in attack against a side that have been mean in defence all season; the La Liga leaders have conceded just 22 times in 34 league games this term and with Jose Mourinho bound to keep it tight, Luis – owned by less than 3% of Fantasy managers – looks a real differential worth considering.

Fernando Torres – with Samuel Eto’o set to miss out due to a knee injury, the script looks set for the 9.0-priced Spaniard to lead the line against his former club in tonight’s first-leg. Torres will always have his critics but there’s no doubt he has a tendency to pop up with goals in the matches that matter most – the chance for him to ‘not celebrate’ a winner against his old team could well be the big story of the last four.

Gareth Bale – Real’s summer signing is back in full training after recovering from flu earlier in the week. With Cristiano Ronaldo poised for a return from injury, Carlo Ancelotti will surely target a Bayern backline that struggled against Man United’s pace through the centre in the previous round. Available for 12.0, Bale notched an oustanding winner in last week’s Spanish Cup final triumph over Barcelona and welcomes the defending champions to the Bernabeu in his best form of a superb debut season.

Thomas Muller – handed a brief 17-minute run-out for the weekend win over Braunschwieg, the Bayern forward will be fully refreshed for tomorrow’s trip to Spain. Priced at 11.0, Muller has a habit of netting vital goals in the big games and, with four strikes in his last six Champions League matches, will be confident of finding the net against a Madrid side that has mustered a mere three clean sheets in their 10 matches in this season’s competition.

    Current team:

    Harper (K Davis)

    Baines - Azpi - Demichelis - Flannagan - Stones

    Yaya - Eriksen - mata - Puncheon - S Davis

    Lukaku - Suarez - Roonpig

I think Aguero is a necessity so what do I do to bring him in?
Do I have too much money stored in the backline?

Bardsley. That name! Argggghhhhh! It meddles with my cerebrum. He has burned me without remorse over the past few months. Plus, not so sure he won't stay on the bench, or injury table, or whatever. Without him, Sundy have tied Man City and beaten Chelsea. That's some stuff to consider right there for the rather manic and fidgety Gus Poyet.

it's ridiculous that people think Moyes should be given more time simple because that's how it should be done. any other job in the world, if you don't perform you get fired.

yes he wasn't able to buy all the players that he wanted, but he did spend 64 million and achieved nothing. in fact one of his purchases was a world class playmaker who he decided to shunt out wide because he didn't have the balls to tell Rooney what to do.

very nice and hard working guy, but not good enough for the biggest stage, no shame in that.

Was leaning towards B - keeps options open for the MCY midfielder of choice and trades an injured Distin for a defender with good fixtures and a DGW.

Quite tempted with Alonso of the 3 - his attacking stats are ridic

Maybe but the other problems stem from the owners' lack of investment.

People squawk about Rooney being paid £300k a week. Utd are paying £430k a week in interest payments. What a way to run a football club.

Speaking of rolling pins and Rooney......maybe Jurgen Klinsmann could be the guy to take over at OT. Stay with me here. His family operates a bakery in Stuttgart, and Jurgen himself is a journeyman baker, having served an apprenticeship...... 🙂

He doesn't though really, Moyes was crap, so we wanted him out, nothing wrong with that.

He had great support at games and in the stadium there were no 'booings' etc...(just a plane - that actually got booed by the stadium).

Bottom line is Moyes failed badly, and there is nothing wrong with fans being unhappy about it.

I don't agree with any of that.

Some fans supported him, for which I am grateful. He has not failed. Or succeeded.

It is the old Scottish verdict of "Not Proven"

            How has he not failed?

He took a squad that in the past 4 seasons has won the title twice and lost it twice by 1 point and on goal difference, and taken them to 7th place playing drab, 1970s style football.

I've seen all of it as a match goer, and it hasn't been good at all.

He's alienated several players, dismantled a successful, proven back room team and instilled a weak "we'll try" mentality.
