World Cup Dugout Discussion – Matchday One

The wait is over. The World Cup kicks off with the host nation, Brazil, facing up to regular dark horses, Croatia.

The tournament favourites lineup as expected, with the likes of David Luiz, Oscar and Paulinho the familiar names alongside Neymar – the Barcelona starlet sports the armband for Fantasy managers far and wide this evening.

The Croatians have the talent to ensure that tonight’s opener will be a cracker, although the loss of striker Mario Mandžukić to suspension for their first group match is a major blow. Hull City’s Nikica Jelavic leads the line for European side, while Šime Vrsaljko is perhaps the surprise inclusion in their lineup as Danijel Pranjić drops to the bench to make way.

Brazil: Julio Cesar, Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Luiz, Marcelo, Paulinho, Gustavo, Hulk, Oscar, Neymar, Fred.

Croatia: Pletikosa, Srna, Corluka, Lovren, Vrsaljko, Modric, Rakitic, Perisic, Kovacic, Olic, Jelavic.

      no, you can't sub a 4th striker. you first have to change formation (there is no 4 striker formation..) and then you can sub i.e. a defender for a mid

        Correct. You can't sub a fourth striker, as it isn't even possible to play four strikers.
        But you can sub a 1st, 2nd or 3rd striker for another one.

    I've always wondered if FIFA knew on some level the decision to hand it to Qatar would eventually lead to such a backlash, they would require a revote. This is why it was announced 10 years before the tournament; to allow enough time for the reaction and subsequent revote. Brazil won the bid 7 years ahead of time while South Africa only had 6 years to prepare.
    
    The whole thing, as everyone already knows, is a fix but I reckon FIFA were always worried the world wouldn't accept it but made sure they took Qatar's money first.
