Fantasy Premier League 2014/15 is Now Open

The waiting is finally over. Just three days after the World Cup came to a conclusion on Sunday evening, our thoughts immediately focus on domestic matters after Fantasy Premier League (FPL) opened its doors once again this afternoon:

This morning’s release of the Player Price List heightened our anticipation – only three midfielders and four forwards are priced above the 10.0 barrier, with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez the subject of much interest after he was classified as a midfielder for the season ahead.

There are changes to how the Bonus Point System (BPS) is calculated, too. Essentially, every previous statistic which factored towards a player’s BPS score is now multiplied by three – a forward earns 24 points towards his BPS score, for example, instead of eight in 2013/14, whilst a shot off target takes a single point from a player’s BPS score; previously, the system only deducted a point for every three wayward efforts.

A new factor introduced to the BPS is the decision to reward players for successful dribbles. Full-backs and wide men who are willing to take on opponents are now smiled upon favourably here – they earn a single point towards their BPS total, the same as providing a key pass. These new tweaks should hopefully prevent situations where, as we saw many times last term, numerous players picked up bonus points in the same match.

Fantasy managers now have the chance to assemble our 15-man squads with just a month until the campaign gets underway on Saturday August 16, where the early lunchtime kick-off sees United and Swansea go head-to-head in Louis Van Gaal’s first official match in charge.

As always, we’ll be rolling out a series of articles on the Player Price List over the coming days, breaking them down by position.

For now, this is just a heads-up. Enjoy tinkering, everyone!

Nice. But back line is a little skimpy.maybe downgrade one of silva/Eriksen?

silva to nasri or maybe eriksen to tadic/de jong certainly frees up funds but I think midfield is where the points lie. And maybe already risky with fabregas and sanchez so would like some solid known prem league performers alongside them

As an Arsenal fan, I think Sanchez will take time to adapt and will struggle in the beginning.
Ramsey proved that he can do what he did last season consistently and I think he's a great buy at 9m
Ozil would also be a great signing as I think he was only in 2nd gear last season.
Giroud will be a bargain if Arsenal don't sign a CF. There's no chance Sanchez will play as a CF.
Fabianski at 5m looks a good choice too from Swansea. Guaranteed starter, wouldn't have left Arsenal for Swansea if they couldn't provide that.

Anyone considering the uber defence? 4 cheepies rotating to fill 2 slots. Haven’t looked into it too much but rotating Villa, Southampton, QPR and Burnley which is the first one I've tried (costing 18m) gives you these games over the first 10 gameweeks:

sto & HUL, NEW & WBA, HUL & SUN, NEW & cpl, SUN & STO, QPR & wba, whm & lei, WHM & SUN, STO & AVL, hul & TOT

Doubtful on him being like Soldado.

His style suits Arsenal a lot and with Ozil having Sanchez/Walcott, you can expect them to have a fair bit of chances. Him having the best conversion rate in La Liga points towards the right direction.

He may not be the best player in the league - but he'll definitely do decently at the very least.

Reposting this to get some thoughts:

So, didn't know where else to post this

Essentially, I'm going to be playing in a draft style fantasy league with 9 other friends (so 10 teams total). The basic rule structure is the same as the fantasy.premierleague.com fantasy apart from:

    - no "bonus points". though multiple goals/assists in a game get a bonus point.
    - 1 pt for 4 interceptions for defenders / 3 interceptions for all others.
    - 1 pt for 4 tackles for defenders / 3 tackles for all others.
    - 5 pts instead of 4 for clean sheets only for goalkeepers
    - 1 pt for 2 blocked shots (happens very rarely, 5-6 points extra for defenders overall)

Essentially, it gives defensive mids a way to earn points, makes good defenders better picks and increases the returns of box to box mids like Yaya Toure or Aaron Ramsey - they had the highest PPG's apart from Suarez. Mostly followed by strikers and Coleman.

Overall the effect is that the gap is lowered between strikers/attacking mids and def mids/defenders/goalkeepers but the first category is still favored. Guys who are box to box and both attack/defend become even better.

I say all this because, I have pick #2 in the draft. So I'll get pick #2 in the draft followed by #19 and #22 pick. Suggestions for who I should get for my first pick? Wanted Ramsey pretty badly but I was debating on avoiding him hoping he might still be available when my next turn comes. Think he would?

Basically, who would your first pick be?

Also, any under the radar guys I should hope to pick up later? Was thinking of saving Theo as a late pick (since he would be injured for the first couple of months and isn't likely to get picked). Any advice / thoughts would be appreciated.

Could paste the point totals according to the rules for some of the top players if that helps.

    Thanks a ton.

On the transfers screen, you can sort by price. Makes it easier.

This season looks a little on the easy side, prices not high enough should have no problems for anyone picking a decent side

not too hard to pick a good side but it also seems like there's a lot of options out there

It's all relative. We're playing eachother. There are lots of possible variations between our teams.

So I've landed on a very sketchy first draft

    Mannone Krul

    Ward Debuchy Rosenior Chambers Baird

    Ozil/Rambo Eriksen Silva Sanchez Albrighton

    Pelle Rooney Dzeko

Definitely going to mess around a fair bit but nice to have a team I'd be happy to fall back on.

1 Utd considering they have the easiest start to a season I've ever seen in all my years playing FF would worry me.

Not convinced on doubling up on the forward line, waiting to see defenders that are bought etc. and midfield could be anyone's guess depending on what LVG fancies. I'd have Mata otherwise.

I ended with almost same as this but with Chelsea cover esp. with first two fixtures

      Sanchez/Rmbo > haz/fab
      upgrade one def

Aye looking at doing something like that. Then again Chelsea have 5 or 6 tough fixtures in their first 10/11 games. So I'm not entirely sure on that yet!
