Champions League 2014/15 – FantasyiTeam Matchday 2 Picks

As we mentioned previously, we’re joining forces with Fantasy iTeam (FiT) for this season’s Champions League campaign. Having supported their popular World Cup game, we’ve teaming up once again to cover Europe’s elite club competition, with Matchday 2 only hours away.

A free Fantasy football app, FiT is available on a number of mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android. It’s free to download and play, so you can already go in and start drafting up your starting XI, with unlimited transfers right up until 10 minutes before this evening’s kick-off – please note that the first fixture of Matchday 2, between CSKA Moscow and Bayern Munich, gets underway at 5pm GMT.

We’re supporting FiT throughout the competition and have an official Fantasy Football Scout League, with an iPad mini available to the winner. There’s also a VIP European Match Day Experience for two on offer for the overall winner of the Fantasy iTeam Champions League game.

Having rolled out a Rule Guide and taken a look at some of the best budget options in the player price list, we now get to grips with the upcoming schedule and offer four player tips for both Tuesday and Wednesday’s matches.

Tuesday

Priced at just 7.2, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson looks an in-form option as Ajax make their way to APOEL Nicosia this evening. The Dutch side have already picking up a point in their group opener at home to PSG and will be hoping their Icelandic centre-forward can replicate the form that saw him fire a weekend hat-trick in a 5-2 rout at NAC Breda.

Schalke’s Eric Choupo-Moting is another reasonably priced option for tonight’s matches. Coming in at 8.4, the Cameroon international has grabbed three goals and a pair of assists in six league appearances so far and is likely to play a part in the final third as his side play host to minnows Maribor.

Despite netting a hat-trick in Porto’s 6-0 rout of BATE Borisov, Yacine Brahimi sets you back a mere 5.7 for Match Day 2. The Algerian has now served up four goals and three assists in seven appearances across all competitions this term and looks in the mood as his side travel to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Bayern’s Mario Gotze is also on our radar for a trip to CSKA Moscow. The home side face a tough task of recovering from a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Roma last time out and with four goals in five league starts, Gotze – who also supplied the assist for Jerome Boateng’s winner against City in Matchday 1 – seems excellent value at just 7.3.

Wednesday

Ibrahim Afellay remains very kindly priced as Olympiacos head to Swedish club Malmo tomorrow evening. The on-loan Dutchman was instrumental in a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid last time around, grabbing a goal and assist, and at just 5.7, he looks an excellent midfield option against the Group A underdogs.

Zenit’s Salomond Rondon is another man in form ahead of a home clash with Monaco. The Venezuelan has scored seven times in as many starts this season and, priced at 8.3, looks the man most likely to fire his side to a second successive group stage victory.

Kevin Grosskreutz is a very budget-friendly midfield option for Dortmund’s trip to Anderlecht. Coming in at just 5.9, the left winger supplied both assists in the 2-0 win over Arsenal in Matchday 1 and his creativity is likely to be instrumental again as Jurgen Klopp’s side look for another win.

While Real Madrid’s trip to Ludogorets will be heavily targeted by Fantasy managers, we’re turning to the other match in Group B for our final selection. Veteran Marco Streller has notched five times in eight appearances for FC Basel this season and his eye for goal could well take advantage of Liverpool’s porous defence in Switzerland tomorrow evening.

Fantasy Football Scout League

We’ve already set up an official Fantasy Football Scout league for you to join, with an iPad mini on offer to the winner – the league name is Fantasy Football Scout and the pin is 11155.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Schone is not nailed on(doubt of injury i read)
And i would have changed Welbeck, but vs Galatasaray he may be a good pick up.

2 goals and assist so far for 5.6 is good value, takes corners also and West Ham more attacking this season, he'll be in my team soon

Yeah but it doesn't look like he's going to score any time soon - you're a member you can check his goal scoring stats.

I'm skeptical about his chances created, he seems to be relying on crosses to create chances - which means they are lower quality chances compared to those of say Fabregas who creates high quality chances which are more likely to be assists.

Not sure I agree with this line of thinking. A chance created means its led to a goal scoring attempt. A cross is likely to be in the box, maybe six yard box. A chance created centrally could be a long range shot or a situation where the striker has had to turn and make his own chance.

E.g. look where Silva's chances created have come from. His assist to chances created ratio is lower than downing's.

I have downing for the next two games and will then reassess. Seems more likely to do well than cesc over the next two imo.

I'm not an owner but he's always lurking around the area, he spends a lot of time there and he provides a few crosses in the box.

This is a decent start: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/11/

(make sure you change the filters to all matches for this season)

There are a couple of odd entries (particularly the top one) but largely it looks like a who's who of PL creativity.

4 chances created and look at all of them..

Yeah, fair enough. I considered him but I do need to see more points from him to be sure he isn't one of the anomalous entries.

As David Hume said, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence 😀

True, I expect him to be an outlier based on this evidence.

Look at the top crossers - Tadic, Moses, Downing - they shall I expect have a significantly lower chances created/assists ratio then others.

As a new Tadic owner I feel the reason to buy him should not be his creativity (that's a bonus) but this new goal threat, same for Moses who I am now seriously considering..

Who are you looking to get?

So now that I've got your attention I'll shameless bombard you with another question. 🙂

I've not owned Sterling all season, I'm thinking of getting because of his ownership (50%), his stats have really regressed however. I think he's spending far less time taking shots from the danger zone and that's evidenced with his returns drying up bar a wonder goal from the edge of the box.

                What do you think?

                  Hah! 😀

Well, it didn't look that way to me, I thought he was the one bright spot for Liverpool against Everton. But I'm not that great at reading the games while I'm watching. I always think Silva has had a better game than everyone else 🙂

Try the Comparison Tool - Sterling GW1-3 Versus Sterling GW4-6

As a player yes, but Rodgers seemed to relegate him to wide left - where he doesn't seem to be worth it.

That's because Silva usually is 🙂

I like the look Silva, Fabregas (slightly overpriced though), Ramsey (when back) and Di Maria (look at the through balls - he's making the right type of chances + may get to play on the tip of the diamond with the Roonpig gone)

Ah, you're missing out. Have you found it? (Members Area > Comparison Tool)

Normally you use it to compare two different players. You can use it to compare the same player in different weeks. Type Sterling in the player box and select him from the drop-down list.

Then in the 'Range' box select 'Gameweek range' and choose from the drop-down boxes that appear. On the left, choose 1 to 3, on the right choose 4 to 6

Or another way to look at it; best goal/min in PL history, plays for one of the best teams, starts when fit and doesnt have doubts over his teams ability going forward like Pool.

Not to mention you are talking up a guy who hasnt played for weeks and hasnt even been on the bench leading up to this weekend.

      UCL team-

      Oblak - Handanovic
      Moreno - Manolas - Rakitskiy - Musuaku - Mbemba
James Rodriguez - Fabregas - Sterling - Calhanoglu - Brahimi
      Ronaldo - Messi - Aduriz

      Got 1 FT. Any ideas?

      Thinking Manolas>4m def.

you should be ok as you have Handanovic.

        Moya starting

I'd want Bayern and/or Schalke attack

I'd be worried about taking Messi out, you get the feeling that if Barça do something, he's involved, so I'd be looking at an assist minimum most times.

Knowing Ramsey, he'll only miss Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge.

      Worth keeping him?

He could be back with a bang after this short break.

would you want him anyway though? i guess it comes down to this.

i was thinking of getting rid before the injury but the alternatives don't inspire either - not sure di maria, fabregas worth the money - and i would still rate him highly despite the odd blank.

i have sold for Tadic though, because i have the non-playing albrighton

Quick question. I bought Rooney at 10.5, he's currently 10.4, do I lose another 0.1m if he drops to 10.3m?

My only problem with getting Baines from next week is if he fails over the good fixtures (which has happened before) then it'll be hard to judge when to cut your losses and move him out...plus Europa. But he could have easily had a penalty and assist vs Pool.

        Handanovic (Roberto)
        Rakitskiy Cahill (Moreno Lichtsteiner Jedvaj)
        Brahimi Fabregas Lucas (Bellarabi Sterling)
        Messi Martinez (Ronaldo)

My FT will be Lichtsteiner => Uchida to free up some funds then I can't decide between:

        A) Lewandowski/Costa & Masuaku (for Martinez and Moreno)
        B) Rondon & Bale (for Marinez and Sterling)

I prefer A but I'm torn between those attackers:(
