Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Monday

Saido Berahino is amongst the goals once again as West Brom play out a 2-2 home draw with Man United. Stephane Sessegnon, Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind also find the net, whilst Angel Di Maria earns an assist as Radamel Falcao drops to the Red Devils’ bench.

Berahino Nets Again
The youngster continues to thrive as the central striker for West Brom and took his tally to six for the season with a second-half effort against United last night. Now up to 45 points after the first eight Gameweeks, the 5.6-priced Berahino is shaping up to be a decent short-term differential – having netted four times in the last three Gameweeks, he now entertains Palace and Newcastle in the next three, with a trip to porous Leicester sandwiched in between.

Brunt Under the Radar
Having recovered from a groin injury sustained on international duty, Chris Brunt continues to pick up the points for the Midlands outfit. Whilst Stephane Sessegnon’s superb opener grabbed the headlines, Brunt’s creativity is paying off time and again – his assist for Berahino’s goal was the third time in the last four Gameweeks he’s teed up a team-mate to fire home. At 5.4 and with a 0.2% ownership, Brunt could be worth considering for those on the lookout for a short-term midfield punt.

Wisdom in the Points
Unable to feature against parent club Liverpool last time around, the right-back ousted Cristian Gamboa from the starting line-up against United last night. In spite of Alan Irvine’s recent praise for the Costa Rican, it seems he remains behind Wisdom in the pecking order, and with an assist for Sessegnon’s opener, the 12%-owned youngster looks set to remain as one of the most popular cut-price defenders around.

Falcao Benched as United’s Away Toils Continue
With his side seeking a first away win of the season, Louis van Gaal’s team sheet raised a few eyebrows as Radamel Falcao dropped to the bench last night in order to accommodate Adnan Januzaj as United shifted to a 4-2-3-1. The Colombian had scored or assisted in the previous three but was afforded just 19 minutes by his manager last night. With unlikely scorers Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind rescuing a point for the Red Devils, Van Gaal may think twice over omitting Falcao as Chelsea roll up to Old Trafford this coming weekend. After the match, though, he admitted he may opt to keep the new system and also suggested Fellaini’s physical presence may be beneficial in the centre of the park as he continues to tinker with his preferred XI.

Di Maria Ticking Over
The Argentine moved to within a point of the FPL midfield summit after serving up an assist for Fellaini’s strike last night. Snapped up by over 203,000 Fantasy managers prior to the Hawthorns encounter, Di Maria has now played a part in seven of his side’s last 13 goals (three strikes and four assists), but with Chelsea, City and Arsenal in the next four, some owners may be looking at a way out in order to generate cash for the Sergio Aguero. Having limped off with a thigh problem late on, we’ll be anxiously awaiting updates on the 10.2-priced midfielder’s fitness ahead of the weekend deadline.

According to whoscored, Berahino has had 2 games out wide and 0 goals, whereas in the middle he is 6 goals from 6 appearances.

So how do we know when he's going to play wide and when he's up front? 🙂

90% sure he was wide right in gw1 when he got his brace (albeit 1 was a penalty so not related to position).
he was tracking back too deep and was too uninvolved against southapton though

Thought being Aguero less, this week would be a sure fire disaster with 68. Still managed to move up from 170k to 117k. Somewhat surprised. Another green. Onwards and upwards

Yeah, not having Aguero means you can invest in a few other players.
I feel quite relaxed not owning Aguero despite his 4 goals.
It would be a different story if Pelle and Baines hadn't scored well.
Really happy with 79 despite no Kun or Tadic.

One of the main arguments in his defense has been that the back 4 has hardly played enough games together. I think the backline of Rafael/Jones/Rojo/Shaw is his preferred back 4 and will probably play the next couple of games barring injuries or truly shocking poor individual displays.

Blackett ? If you have him and there's no pressing transfer...hold on. With the whole uncertainty regarding Costa, Kun showing up in a big way, Wally and Rambo back from injury, there're more [potential] important transfers to consider.

    Mannone, Heaton
    Baines, Bertrand, N.Taylor, Duff, Moore
    Hazard, ADM, Chadli, Sigurdsson, Boyd
    Welbeck, Falcao, Costa

I am having a nightmare start to the season. Falcao gamble hasn't paid off at all. Going to lose him for Aguero.

Hazard to Tadic to fund it? (also ADM to Fabregas due to fixtures?)

I am tempted to argue for keeping Falcao. Surely he's going to relish playing against Chelsea and he, along with his manager will be keen do inflict maximum damage. I don't rate United's chances of keeping a clean sheet but I dare say I can see them outscoring Chelsea.

That said, should Kun be fit and rearing to go this weekend, I'd pull the trigger on the transfer, I'd keep ADM mainly as he seems to be the focal point for any United attack. So it's Hazard ➡ Tadic to fund Falcao ➡ Kun.

          It works.

Yep, he was my saviour. Ahhh dang, probably would have had Aguero if I'd known Costa was out.

      Downgrade Ivan IMO

Ivanovic-> Bertrand, Sakho->Pelle and possibly Tadic->Eriksen/Chadli is possible

McCarthy and Jakupovic not nailed, could end up with no keepers.
Dummet and Yun not nailed. Still a chance Wisdom could lose his place. Need to free up cash from somewhere to improve the defence. Probably by downgrading Ivan. Or Sanchez.

    Help very much appreciated

    Krul Elliot
    Clyne Naylor Wilson Dummett Moore
    ADM Hazard Siggy Sterling Marney
    Aguero Costa Pelle

Could just do Wilson-Chambers and Marney-Boyd, or something like Hazard-Sanchez and Wilson-Wisdom.

    Thanks.

I asked this on Saturday but after last night I'll ask again

Is Berahino (c) really such a bad idea this week?

My other main options are Siggy (no form) and Sterling (possible rest) or Kun

I think it's worth the gamble.

Kun or coasts for me though

Kun should be your main reference, Siggy is in good form if I may add, Ki wasted the chance he created and he comes from the back of 2 goals in international level.

I felt comfortable (C)ing him in GW 2 and 3, don´t know how this defeat will affect them as they didn´t deserve it but Siggy is always good for a goal and assist.

He should have at least 1 assist against Stoke and its Stoke away, not an easy game for any player
2 goals for Iceland too in last game
So he is still in form

    What do yall think?

    A. Di Maria, Naylor, Berahino
    B. Boyd, Wisdom, Aguero

Tempted to take a -8. Want to hold onto Costa unless it's a long term injury

    Rest of the team

    Forster (Hamer)
Clye - Azpil - Baines (Naylor, Duff)
Sterling - Siggy - Fab - ADM (Downing)
    Pelle - Costa - Ulloa

Downgrade Courtouis to 4.5M and upgrade Clyne to Baines (if you have the cash) otherwise Coleman. Probably suggest Foster

    Hmm...

    2FT, 0.5 ITB

    Foster (Mannone)

    Baines, Bertrand, Chambers (Taylor, Moore)

    ADM, Sterling, Siggy, Downing (Boyd)

    Costa, Pelle, Aguero

Thinking of doing Taylor -> hutton, to fund Downing -> Chadli.

    Thoughts?

Used it first time Costa was "injured", my WC team got 30 points less than my original team and I dropped to 1.5mill rank.. I always start the season with 1.5mill rank after 4 gameweeks.. now up to 130k though..but it sucks

Used it in GW4 and has paid off quite nicely.

Took Ramsey, Rooney, Terry (right before his OG) out and got players the likes of ADM, Aguero and Clyne in along with a lot of other changes.

Anybody going without Aguero? I really like my team at the minute. A lot of players are consintently scoring points and whilst Aguero is great he wont score four goals every game.

I would rather have a strong 11 than a strongish 10 and Aguero.

For example: Is Ivanovic, Sterling and Welbeck to Chambers, Chadli and Aguero worth a minus 4?

I have faith that Ivan and Sterling will comfortably outscore the other two and for my captain I can have Costa or Pelle.

Thoughts? Is he essential? Worth weakening other areas for?

I'm holding off, Welbeck is easily capable of at least a goal a week with his fixtures and, like you say, the other players that you would lose are much better than their replacements.
