Spot the Differential – Gameweek 12

As the Gameweek 12 deadline edges ever closer, we roll out another trio of overlooked options for your perusal once again. Our attentions turn to a couple of cut-price attackers looking to net yet again, whilst a fit-again City midfielder also makes his way onto this morning’s radar.

Samir Nasri

After a couple of months on the sidelines, the Frenchman has returned to action just in time for a kind upcoming run of matches for City. Afforded his first start since Gameweek 4 last time around, Nasri’s comeback has already diminished James Milner’s minutes and, as we saw last season – where he made 34 league appearances – Nasri, when fully fit, is a firm favourite of Manuel Pellegrini’s.

Certainly, with a single assist in six league outings, it’s fair to say that the midfielder has yet to find his form. As he begins to build up his match sharpness, though, Pellegrini will be looking to afford Nasri the same sort of attacking license that produced seven goals and 11 assists in last term’s title-winning campaign. Available for 8.2 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he’s currently owned by less than 2% of Fantasy managers, but with showdowns against Swansea, Sunderland, Leicester and Palace in the next six, he seems one to monitor as the champions look to go on the offensive to keep their title tilt on track.

Ayoze Perez

Utilised as a brief sub in seven of the opening eight Gameweeks, Newcastle’s summer signing has hit the ground running upon his introduction to Alan Pardew’s starting XI. Handed his first start in Gameweek 9, Perez has proceeded to score in each of the subsequent three league outings, netting against Tottenham, Liverpool and West Brom as the Magpies ascend the table.

The young Spaniard has also earned six bonus points in the FPL game for his recent endeavours, and with Pardew keen to court caution with Papiss Cisse in light of his knee problem, Perez look in line to retain the lone striker role at home to QPR this weekend. Bearing in mind the R’s have conceded in every road trip so far, the Tyneside team will be looking for Perez to produce the goods once again and, available for a cut-price 4.8, he could well be worth considering ahead of a schedule which also sees him square up to West Ham, Burnley and Sunderland in the following five.

Bojan Krkic

Yes, we’ve been here before. The Spaniard’s stunning pre-season form had many eyeing up his acquisition but a sluggish start to life in the top-flight saw him tumble off Fantasy radars and Mark Hughes’ team sheet before August was over.

Over the last couple of Gameweeks, though, Bojan has finally settled at the Britannia and is looking instrumental to Stoke’s prospects in the final third. Handed back-to-back starts in the role in “the hole”, the summer signing grabbed a goal and two bonus points in a 2-1 win at Tottenham last time around and looks poised to retain his starting berth as Burnley come calling later today.

The Potters have now scored twice in three of their last four league fixtures, and with the fixture list turning nasty in Gameweek 13, a victory against the Clarets looks vital. Available for just 4.8 in FPL, he squares up to a side that have conceded more shots inside the box than any other in the last four Gameweeks, suggesting points could be on the horizon for anyone brave enough to roll the dice.

Decided to gather some information when trying to pick a captain for the upcoming gameweek and this is what I found.

Aguero and Costa does both have 6 goals from home games, so not a big difference here. Aguero does however got 2 more away goals with 40 minutes more played which slightly puts him in the lead here.

Swansea have conceded 7 goals in 3 out of 5 away games. It is worth noting that they conceded 4 goals against Chelsea. West Brom have conceded 5 goals in 2 out of 5 away games. Swansea's away defense record looks worse than West Brom's, so Aguero got this advantage as well.

Swansea is however fifth in the league compared to West broms 13th placement which should suggest that Chelsea got the easier game coming up, but the statistics so far indicates that Aguero should have a easier time scoring.

I had Costa as my captain before looking up this statistics, but have changed him to Aguero after this. Costa does feel like a safer option imo since he plays for the currently best team in the league, but Aguero is a bit more punty with half the ownership compared to Costa and got the statistics going for him. Both should score today considering that both play at home against a weaker team, but making the decision on how to captain is a tough one 🙁

Good luck to whoever you guys pick! 🙂

Also that Dzeko is out and whenever that has happened, has helped Aguero

Great! I was not aware of that and havent consider any information other than the one presented, but there is probably a lot more that could be taken into the equation such as international breaks etc.

I know we are only 15 odd GWs in, but I might add that...and this might be a bit wonky, you may want to cross reference the team shape/formation, as you will find that a view into their strategy/tactics facing like to like teams vs a Top 6 strategy would shed light and make more sense as to why certain teams have or will ship goals on the road.

Thanks for enriching the thread! And thanks for the research.

Help! I've got 1 FT and about 5 injury doubts. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Forster

    Bertrand / Rose* / Chambers

    Fabregas* / ADM / Sanchez / Downing*

    Aguero / Pelle / Welbeck*

    (McCarthy* / Boyd / Naylor / Duff)

    Any suggestions?

Considering Pelle & ADM > Costa & Chadli... Anyone got anything better?

Downing appears to be the one looking least likely to play.

      Play Duff instead of Rose.

Can you do Downing to Chadli?

Agree this would be the best move. Lots of these guys may play this week and will almost certainly be back next week. You'll need your FTs for when people start getting suspended/properly injured.

    Guzan
    Baines* / Clyne / Rose*
    Fab*/ ADM / Sanchez / Downing*
    Aguero / Pelle / Berahino
    (MCcarthy* / Wisdom / Boyd / Saylor*)

    1 FT & 1.3m itb

    A) Fab & Pelle -> Siggy & Costa (-4)
    B) Rose -> Azpi & hope Baines play (not sure)
    C) Rose, Fab & Pelle -> Azpi, Siggy & Costa (-8)
    D) Rose, Fab & Pelle -> Dummett, Oscar & Costa (-8)

    Re-post

I need Sanchez. Current team is:

    Schmeichel
    Baines, Chambers, Clyne
    Sterling, Tadic, Fabregas, Chadli
    Berahino, Aguero (c), Costa

    Foster, Boyd, Wilson, Moore

    2FT and £0.5m in bank

Can do Sterling, Tadic and Wilson to Downing, Sanchez and Yun/Dummett, or Tadic, Wilson, Fabs to Oscar, Sanchez and Siggy, both for -4.

Go for it or just get a defender in for Wilson this week and then get rid of Tadic and Sterling next week for Sanchez and Downing if fit?

    What should I do lads?

There's logic in it. I think Azpi will probably miss one of the three games between Boxing Day and New Years Day, but that's all. Terry goal threat vs Azpil bonus potential also comes into it.

Normally id say no, but it isn't just Sakho thats the issue, the hammers appear to have all kinds of injury worries and big sam has been harping on about rotation. So whilst i really rate Sakho (above Austin) i fear he may prove to be a potential millstone round our necks between now and xmas.

      1. Tronity
        • 10 Years

Yeah exactly - I'd seen that Sakho and Valencia could both be rotated which will be an easier decision if Sakho is injured. Sakho was great for me for a few weeks but he really seems a rotation and injury risk.

Very nice. I'd personally find the funds for hazard over Fabregas though. Maybe chop a goalie into a 4.0 or Wanyama down as well if needed. Rest is great though.

Fellas, currently leading my league need done FF guru help for this week due to yellow flags

          Krul

          Coleman, Clyne, cresswell

          Fab, siggy, downing, tadic

          Costa, aguero, pelle

          Subs myhill, boyd, wisdom

1ft and 0.8 in the bank

Currently fab, downing and Coleman doubtful - still not sure about costa or aguero for captain this GW

          A) downing > Moses
          B) cresswell > Azpi
          C) fab > haz / Oscar
          E) pelle > Austin to free up funds next week
          D) ride it out this week and keep fr

Why are you thinking about Cresswell? He scored 9 points last week, is fully fit, and they have great fixtures after this week.

Fabregas will play. Chelsea also have great fixtures.

Pelle will be against Viola's 4th and th choice centre halves. Could be a good haul there.

Downing is the only one that would interest me. But then I'd look at the fixtures, and knowing that I'd want him back straight away-and that he might still start-I'd ride it out.

Thanks bredrin, think I have been looking at it for too long and you go kinda mental! Only looking to get a Chelsea defender in for the whole cresswell option had think west ham concede this week but as you say guaranteed started and have been impressed by him this year.

              Might just ride it out
