Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 16

Five more players fell victim of the Suspension Tightrope over the Gameweek 16 action. Villa’s Alan Hutton disappointed his numerous new owners by collecting a fifth yellow of the season during Saturday’s midlands derby loss at West Brom – the right-back will sit out this weekend’s visit of United before returning to action for the Gameweek 18 trip to Swansea.

In terms of Fantasy popularity, Southampton’s Graziano Pelle was the most high-profile – fortunately for his 24% of owners, the Italian will miss tonight’s cup clash with Sheffield United and will therefore be available for the weekend visit of Everton.

The same scenario applies to Newcastle’s Daryl Janmaat. Handed a fifth yellow in the 4-1 loss at Arsenal, he’ll skip Wednesday’s Capital One Cup trip to Spurs but is free to play in the weekend Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.

The cases of Tom Cleverley and Tom Huddlestone are a little more complex after both earned their fifth caution last time out. Although Villa’s on-loan Cleverley is ineligible for this weekend’s clash with parent club United, the FA have confirmed that he will still serve the one-match suspension against the Red Devils and will be available for the Boxing Day clash against Swansea.

Huddlestone earned his fifth yellow of the season in Hull’s loss to Chelsea, therefore triggering an automatic one-match ban. The midfielder was then dismissed for serious foul play in the 2-0 loss at the Bridge – which earns three more matches on the sidelines and extends his suspension to four Gameweeks. Huddlestone will therefore sit out three home fixtures (SWA, LEI, EVE) and a trip to Sunderland – he’ll next be available for action on January 4, when the Tigers face Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round.

Villa’s Kieran Richardson is also sidelined through suspension. The midfielder was sent off for serious foul play at the weekend and will miss the next three before returning in time for the New Year’s Day showdown at home to Palace.

The Tightrope now creaks under the weight of 30 players as we head towards Gameweek 17. This week’s new entries include Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, George Boyd, Marouane Chamakh, James Chester, Cheick Tioté, Jordi Gómez, Connor Wickham, Steven Gerrard, Mario Balotelli, Ryan Mason and Ki Sung-Yeung. Balotelli now has 20 PL bookings to his name – exactly the same number as he has Premier League goals.

Diego Costa owners will be a little concerned after the Chelsea striker joined Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole on seven bookings for the season after incurring the referee’s wrath against Hull. Given that the 10-yellow card deadline is in mid-April, Costa will need to curb his enthusiasm for fear of earning another suspension further down the line.

In terms of returning players, Cesc Fabregas, Charlie Austin, Lukas Fabianski, Calum Chambers, Steven Taylor, Moussa Sissoko and Gareth Barry are all back in contention for this weekend. Barry’s caution in Gameweek 15 took him onto 99 Premier League yellows – one more and he’ll be the top-flight’s first centurion for bookings.

Hey everyone, need some advise this week.

    Forster
    Terry, N.Taylor, Yun
    Fabregas, Erikson, Miralles, Siggy
    Rooney, Costa, Bony
    Heaton, O'Shea, Boyd, Hutton

    2M in the bank.

Considering taking a 4 point hit and do Miralles > Toure and Costa > Pozo/Austin/Kane? City have some great fixtures coming up and i need cover, would love Yaya to be the only transfer but can only afford him by losing Costa, alternatively i could just do Miralles to Silva/Nasri but not as good as Yaya!

    1. SC not pearls before swine
      • 13 Years
      9 years, 6 months ago

If I were in your shoes I would probably just get Nasri/Silva in for Mirallas and curse after Yaya knocks in 5 penalties over the next 4. OR I'd do the hit and Costa would bang in 6 goals over the next 4 while Yoyo got suspended...

Sorry, my sad sackness aside I'd rather get Nasri and save the 4 points.

Personally, I know Yaya is an incredible player, but the only reason the rest of the team has been quiet is because there has been a dedicated and skilled striker. I think Yaya will score more than his teammates, but I expect to see the rest of the midfield to rise to the occasion as well. I'd start questioning how many hits I was going to take before bringing him in.

yeah, my thoughts are that with them being down to the bare bones he might see decent minutes over 5 games or so. 4 goals and 2 assists in less than 300 minutes shows you his potential. it is a punt, no doubt

    @ Rick

Can't keep up with FFS' pace on my phone! 🙂

True that Hart has greater potential of CS Points than any other GK in next 4 but are you considering WCing on Jan 1st week? If so then yes he's worth it but there are some people like me who'd like to wait until Jan end & we can't be bothered to pay £6m for a GK when he has eve, ARS, che after next 4.

Yes, it can happen to anybody but I'm here talking about a fan's point of view. Salah deserves his chance & this was the best fixture to give him the opportunity. Hazard is quite a fit player but he is no Suarez so ahead of upcoming busy period I'd have preferred to see him start on the bench today.

He really isn't if you're planning like me on WCing at the end of January. You don't want to be stuck with £6m GK for eve, ARS, che fixtures. Especially when you've alternative like Panti for £1.6m less.

city can keep CS against those sides i reckon.

eve, ARS, che. We are talking here about City defence, not Chelsea's. You're overestimating their strength at the back. Just because they lost their Strikers they need not necessarily become rock solid at the back.

as long as aguero is out i dont think i will need the funds. only one i can think of is maybe RVP exploding or Sturridge returning. but for now im fine.

Can you see anything better for me to consider?

    Wisdom Baines Dummett
    Yaya Sanchez Hazard Siggy
    Austin Rooney Bony

I need to get Haz in for his next home game, he's killing me. I'm prepared to go without this week but it'll require a hit either this week or next. Currently have Oscar and Costa as my chelsea attackers. I'm seriously considering ditching Costa for all the reasons we know, bps etc. plus I like Oscar, scores well compared to most other mids. Considering a major change of Costa go Kane (have bony and Austin) so price rises no issue. So on that basis, a hit this week or next?

Really? I can assure you not having Haz is a killer. Well above the average this week and would have cpt Haz if I'd had him but had to go Costa. Got me a big red arrow.

Nasri, Silva, Milner were the 3 players mentioned as striker.

So I can't see Yaya playing that role.

^this^ I can't see a holding midfielder playing as a striker, Yaya likes his late runs into the box too much.

He doesn't need to. He provides enough pops at goal wherever he plays. All that Pell needs to do is play him as normal and ask him to move a bit higher if things get sticky...as always...
