The ScoutCast – Episode 150 – Costly

Granville and I raise out bats to the grandstand as the 150 comes up for the ScoutCast. Fittingly, we choose to spend the milestone episode moaning about Diego Costa, for very different reasons.

Chelsea’s “agro magnet” dominates discussion on the eve of an expected three-match ban that will end my love affair with the grizzled goal-getter. Meanwhile, Granville is left smarting from Costa’s 16-point Gameweek 22 haul as he does his best to make light of the 59-point chasm that now separates our teams.

Elsewhere, we glide through the ScoutCast regulars, whilst taking time out to lament Kevin Mirallas and his latest bout of Baines-bullying that robbed us both of belated returns.

Count the cost via this link, or pay your dues via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Please could you advise? Costa will need to go presumably, fancy a one week punt prior to my wildcard next week. Any ideas?

Just my take on the Costa incident....

I see a lot of really good talented young players playing in my son's league (West lancs prem)..top kids who are playing for academies...great young players. No good though because one day they are going to have to play against the likes of Costa and Skrtle and they aren't "hard" enough...Thugs...I piggin hate them...

      What's wrong with Skrtel?

He's a proper defender, but I don't think I've seen him cross any lines...

Skrtel is actually really sensitive and just wants to hug whenever there's a corner

No he hasn't..but he's very physical and shows what our young lads are actually up against when it comes to progressing....It's not good enough just to have silky skills in the prem, you have to be tough as well...

It's always been tough though but quality comes through. I remember playing as a kid and the stand outs were the big physical feckers. But James Thomas who I played against A lot ended up at Blackburn then scoring a Hattie to keep the jacks in the league.

Yeah it has...When you watch fourteen and fifteen year old lads play, who think they are really good at footy (and they are) we have to remember that one day it's not another fifteen year old lad they need to beat...It's Martin Skrtle...or Shawcross...or Costa...Tough game footy !!

At what age do they start playing with adults generally?

I know it's slightly different, but I was playing hockey against adults when I was 10 or 11, and every year after.

Not sure...but I know that most of the teams in my son's league would beat most adult teams by a distance...some very talented kids in W Lancs and Merseyside..very talented...

True. You're right that most develop an edge though. A lot of the time it's getting that early elbow in the stomach to let the opposition clogger know they won't be bullied. Suppose it's why strikers commit so many fouls.
I remember Kevin Davies being a young winger who'd get pushed about...how he changed!

      Nicely balanced,

      Very similar to mine:

      Ospina / Foster
      Terry / Jones / Wollscheid / PvA / Bertrand
      Hazard / Sanchez / Downing / Puncheon / Boyd
      Aguero / Giroud / Pelle

Tempted to upgrade Downing but to whom, triple chelsea? Eriksen? Stick!?

thoughts on selling Sanchez now on the off chance he is out for extended period of time and not just 'rested as a precaution'. current sell price is 11m so lose 0.5m on it. on WC and still have 2nd WC.

I think both are quite nailed. Moses lack of goals / eye for goal is a legitimate concern to me despite his wonderful strike in the Cup game. Walters on pens also helps his cause.

            no its not.

            -------------------Stat----Chelsea-----Soton
            Goals Against/90-------0.9-----------0.7
            Shots Against/90------10.3----------9.5
            SoT Against/90--------- 2.8-----------2.8

              chelsea 11 clean sheets
              saints 10 clean sheets

that's all that matters in fpl terms.

That's not how this works. Clean sheets are not the best indicators of future clean sheets, the numbers above all forecast future clean sheets more accurately.

well you said saints have best defence in the league.
we can't know what will happen in the future.
maybe they actually will have the best one at the end but until this moment they aren't having one.
                  it's chelsea's defence.clean sheet's define how good defence is.
it's how you decide which team has got the best defence at the end of the league, isn't it?

like I said, clean sheets are the first thing to define any back-line.

I can get Pelle on my wildcard. His home form is fantastic and he has 3 decent home games in the next 4 but his overall form has been worrying. Not that many goals from him in the last ten games.

Question: Is it worth paying 2.1M extra to get him over Kane. His fixtures turn good but Kane's form is better.

    Morning DZ

I'm the same as everyone else and it comes down to this:

    a) do what everyone else is doing and get Giroud (90% of teams I've seen have Aguero Giroud Kane)

    b) Take a punt on Falcao.

a means a lot more money to splash around but if I spend that it's harder to save a slot for a prime attacker in the team.

He will be assessed on Saturday. He's not definitely out, and if he is it shouldn't be for long.

No rush, Wenger says he will be assessed on Saturday but I think he'll miss this weekend personally.

    Curently Costa, Giroud, Kane.
With the ban likely to come into place, who to get instead?

    Cisse
    Pelle
    Risk Remy?
    Falcao
    Other

Can't afford Augero and not that interested either
