The ScoutCast – Episode 150 – Costly

Granville and I raise out bats to the grandstand as the 150 comes up for the ScoutCast. Fittingly, we choose to spend the milestone episode moaning about Diego Costa, for very different reasons.

Chelsea’s “agro magnet” dominates discussion on the eve of an expected three-match ban that will end my love affair with the grizzled goal-getter. Meanwhile, Granville is left smarting from Costa’s 16-point Gameweek 22 haul as he does his best to make light of the 59-point chasm that now separates our teams.

Elsewhere, we glide through the ScoutCast regulars, whilst taking time out to lament Kevin Mirallas and his latest bout of Baines-bullying that robbed us both of belated returns.

Count the cost via this link, or pay your dues via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sod it. Cazorla/Walcott/Ozil/Ramsey none of them are nailed on, who knows who will play when. I'm going to be a dullard and stick to the safety of Kosc, Sanchez, Giroud I think.

i'm thinking the same, and would then switch out fab/oscar for the hot hand gw27

    shameless repost..

    Panti - Krul
    Baird - Terry - Jones - Bertrand - Wollsh
    Caz - Haz - Walcott - Oscar - Boyd
    Aguero - Giroud - Pelle

0.3m left itb, 2nd wildcard still available

(would be doing Alexis > Caz in this WC draft allowing for PvA > Wollsh and a Kane > Pelle punt)

    Moses absolutely kills it!!!

If only hitting the cross bar or duffing goal scoring chances got FPL points he'd be first name in my team. Along with Cout. 🙂

        Not sure I agree....

Based on their last six matches (not gw's) Moses has more attempts, LOADS more in the box, better shot accuracy, similar assist potential and a higher position on the pitch.

I think he is more nailed too

    Pantilimon
    Koscielny Azpilicueta Fonte
    Sterling Sanchez Hazard Di Maria
    Aguero Giroud Kane

    Bench: Jakupovic, Wisdom, Baird, Marney

This is what I said in my previous post Sinik mentioned re Sanchez...

Not assuming. Will certainly wait for whatever news we get before making a decision. But if it were really that minor I don't think we'd even be hearing about it. He took some serious knocks in the Cup. And it was an unnecessary risk bringing him on. So it's no surprise that Wenger isn't throwing himself under the bus.

    Thoughts?

Not stalking you. Not at all.

You post a lot. You have lots of opinions and advice for everyone.

You're an American, but you like to use English/British euphemisms and a vernacular that is never used here in the states.

You are one of the more interesting posters on here -- and you are always on here.

Here is my guess so far:

This is only your second or third year playing FFL

You live in the Midwest (Illinois)

You were born in 1998 in Chicago or Omaha

You just finished applying to college and, actually, stand a good chance of getting into a reasonable school (probably one of the "new" Ivies; thinking Macalester, etc.)

You have LARPed at one point in your life

I'm thinking this. He won't come on unless Villa are leading which is HIGHLY unlikely.

Saying that I'm not sure Giroud is the best VC out there...tricky choice though. I may play safe with Hazard at home against a shakey City defence without Yaya. Plus Haz might be the main weapon if Costa is out

I am captaining Hazard, now, too. Sanchez too uncertain. My fear is that he starts, but Wenger has to take him off because he tweaks his hammy, and we get 2 measly points. Haz can also explode and is not a question with regards to injury.

The problem with this is just looking a game before when he had Alexis on the bench and put him on against a non-league side with the game already won. Logic is out the window with Wenger pretty much always. It's quite a risk captaining him for me.

I think that's due to Alexis being such a grafter and so can protect a lead. Very tricky decision but as a Villa fan who watches every game, I honestly don't see us as much of a threat.

We'll park the bus and our counters aren't as effective anymore.

I don't follow that rationale, mate. You don't risk your best player and talisman to protect a lead against a non-league side with nothing to lose when a rash challenge could put him out for months. It serves him right....and he is getting punished for his seeming inability to not allow a player chirping in his ear at halftime because he just wants to play in every game and is a bit of a nutter in his own right to protect him for the good of the team and overall campaign. Especially when you had Coq and other such players on the bench already to do said job.

Highly unlikely that a game at the Emirates would be postponed due to snow. But I suppose to be extra safe, you're right.

I agree with the last three, not sure about the others. Looking for an explosive pick in falcao. if Sturridge starts to fire then sterling has a lot of points potential, plus the land mine situation in ARS' midfield

    A) Will Costa be banned before City game?
    B) Is Sanchez definitely out? Would you take out on WC?

    D) DGW in GW28? When will Chelsea's be?

mmm I see your point but I wouldn't say 100%. To me it looked like he was just focused on the ball. I guess we'll have to wait and see, expecting the ban though

well I just feel that by default professional footballers have exceptional spatial awareness compared to amateurs, and even I would know what I was doing if I stamped him there..

Costa's entire 1 pace (with his left leg) is taken with his right foot on top of Can's, and ends the stride with Can's foot pinned to the ground.

He'll be suspended, but save your transfer until tomorrow... i doubt Costa's price will drop, if that's your hesitation

I personally have no hesitation, haven't "owned" Costa since GW14..brought him in this week in case he rose twice, but he's gone and I probably won't buy again as I expect him to miss at least 5 matches between now and the end of the season, maybe even 6+ if he gets another red down the line..

In the last six GW's only Chelsea have conceded fewer chances in the box than Stoke...Chelsea are the only other team with more clean sheets than Stoke in the last six as well...four to three...

    mmmm...good fixtures coming up...

What is the FFS read on Azpilicueta ?

Have Ivanovic in on my WC, but stitches on the foot isn't the best injury to have when you're a footballer.

Same... I wanted to be really alt, and brought in Azpi after JT scored in the first week of his spree.

I'll show them all, when I captain Peter Crouch this weekend.

I think Ivan will play, he is a warrior. Especially if Luis is out.

I think Azpi could be a great pick, you just always risk Luis starting instead. I was burnt by him over xmas.

Personally I think I'd pay the extra for one of Chelsea's more secure and attacking defenders, especially if you've already used your standard WC

Personally too much on your keepers.

Not sure on Trippier too with their fixtures and his lack of returns for the price.

I like the rest but you might be a week too early with Studge

    Ok WC draft 115467:

    Foster Myhill
    Terry Bert Kosc Hutton Baird
    Haz Alexis Eriksen Puncheon Boyd
    Kun Giroud Kane

I think I like this one (maybe...)

I think gotta pick one between Kane and Eriksen if you are going with two Chelsea with 27s blank looming. Looks okay besides that. Little nervous still about Baird's place and I'd prefer PvA to Hutton at this point.

Not sure about your in the bank situation but I do kind of like the idea of Eriksen over Kane. Can't see Kane tearing it up though I still think he will prove to be good value for money at the same time. Lot depends on what you bought Kane at and who you can afford to replace him with.
