Captain Sensible – Gameweek 26

Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Eden Hazard (26%) leads the way in a closely-contested race this week. The Belgian has managed just two assists in his last four at Stamford Bridge but will fancy his chances of returning to form – visitors Burnley have conceded at least two goals in each of their last six road trips. With that in mind, it’s perhaps surprising that only 17% have opted for Diego Costa – the Spain international has found the net in eight of his nine home appearances so far.

Sergio Aguero is just behind Hazard on 25%. The City striker ended his goal drought with a brace against Stoke last time out and is expected to recover from a minor back problem to welcome Newcastle to the Etihad. With Yaya Toure back on board and Samir Nasri and David Silva both in form, the Argentine will be looking to improve upon a surprisingly poor home record – Aguero has found the net in just three of nine outings in front of his own fans.

Despite serving up five double-figure hauls in the last eight, Harry Kane is backed by only 11% of Fantasy managers as Spurs welcome West Ham to the Lane. Sam Allardyce’s side have managed a single away clean sheet all season and will struggle to keep their hosts at bay, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look for a morale boost prior to next weekend’s Capital One Cup final against Chelsea.

With that quartet hogging most of the votes, there are a number of differential candidates for those willing to gamble with the armband. Romelu Lukaku is backed by just under 4% at home to a Leicester defence that has shipped at least two goals in eight of their last nine road trips, whilst Arsenal trio Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud have been largely overlooked ahead of a visit to Palace.

I just sold him for Dawson. It was a toss up between him and Bellerin.

Now Bellerin poss injured. Just hope Dawson keeps his place.

In that situation, I always tend to play the attacking player unless it's an obvious, nailed on clean sheet for the defender.

Exactly, that's what we all thought about Sunderland at home to QPR!

Definitely play Mane, he has looked brilliant lately, now the Saints' main attacking outlet with Pelle out of form.

Liverpool just had a europa league tie, too.

Would ideally like to save my transfer this week, is it possible with this team? Very worried about Walcott and obviously Wisdom needs to go?

    Ospina
Clyne - Wolscheid - van Aanholt
Hazard - Sanchez - Walcotf - Di Maria
    Defoe - Aguero - Kane

    Krul - Moses - Jones - Wisdom

Morning gzzz, been a while since i was here. have 1FT and 0.4m

    Panti
Iva pva bellerin --- naughton wisdom
adm silva hazard ozil -- boyd
    kun giru kane

    Initial plan:
save FT, do one FT in gw27, have 2FTs for dgw28, do 3 transfers and assuming chelsea have a dgw, end up with 6 dgw players

    New plan:
A: wisdom >> wolscheid as bellerin is a doubt. Will then save FT next gw (and shd get 11 playing), and revert to initial plan to do 3transfers in dgw28 to end up with 6dgw players

B: wisdom >> rose, good fixture this gw. will end up with only 10 players next gw but then end up with 7 players in dgw28. The other worry is whether rose will play both the games in dgw.

In theory it shdnt make a difference if i have 10 players in gw27 and an extra in dgw28 vs. 11 (in gw27) and one less in dgw 28

      • 9 Years

Poch usually rotates rose and davies when there are 2 games in a week. I'd guess davies will play one game in gw 28 as rose will play in the cup final.

I like the theory but Burnley have enough threat to score so would still go with Hazard

Not sure. He is OK pick. Play well but not good in opposition box(probably due to light weight). Someone like Crouch/N'Doye possible?

True. I'd bench him this week obv and he has a decent fixture next week. Gayle has to go I think. Swapping him for Kane on WC has ruined my season.

I would look at Dembele but he blanks next week. But pending team news he is probably the best 1 week punt at that price

Gil is coming in for me but only to warm my bench
