The Scout Mission – Gameweek 32

Next up, we turn our attentions to the weekend’s ten fixtures. With many Fantasy managers preparing to wildcard next week, we’re monitoring the form of Arsenal, Liverpool, Sunderland and Newcastle’s strikers, whilst City’s fit-again Belgian and the battle of West Ham’s budget midfielders are also on the agenda.

Welbeck’s form ahead of the double….
As we prepare to reassemble our squads for the upcoming doubles, there’s promising signs that the former United man has nailed down a regular role under Arsene Wenger. Welbeck has been named in the Arsenal first XI in three of the last four Gameweeks and led the line in back-to-back clashes against Spurs and Everton, heightening his appeal at a price of 7.3 in FPL. With his opener against the Toffees taking his tally to three strikes and an assist in just five appearances, Welbeck may well find his way into more wildcard plans if he produces the goods at home to Watford.

Iwobi’s minutes….
Handed a surprise start away to Barcelona in the Champions League, the youngster retained his spot for the Gunners’ trip to Goodison. Iwobi vindicated his manager’s decision by netting the second in a 2-0 win and looks to have edged ahead of the likes of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell for a role on the flank. At a price of 4.5, his value for money will be hard to ignore for many wildcarders if Wenger unleashes him from the off against the Hornets on Saturday.

…and Sturridge’s….
Liverpool’s fit-again frontman highlighted his goal-getting capabilities by bagging his fourth goal in just over 400 minutes of pitch time this term against Southampton in the previous Gameweek. Encouragingly for any would-be suitors, Jurgen Klopp chose to start Sturridge at St Mary’s just three days after he was named in the first XI United in the Europa League, which suggests that the striker’s fitness is on the up after numerous stints on the sidelines. With nine fixtures in the final nine Gameweeks, including a couple of doubles, Sturridge – with a mere 1% ownership – could prove a deadly differential if Klopp can keep him out of the treatment room.

De Bruyne’s return to the City fold….
After a couple of months on the sidelines, the Belgian’s return to full training earlier this week has Fantasy managers on alert as we start to firm up our wildcard plans. De Bruyne’s average of 5.5 points per appearances is greater than any City attacker this season and with Manuel Pellegrini’s men set for a double Gameweek 34, his fitness will be eagerly monitored. Now down to 4% ownership, the summer signing could be a devastating differential if he can prove his fitness from this point onwards.

Mitrovic’s momentum….
The Serbian seems to have won the race to lead the line under Rafa Benitez at Newcastle, starting both matches since the new manager was installed at St James’. Mitrovic’s equaliser against Sunderland backed up his recent improvement since the departure of Steve McClaren – he’s joint-top with Harry Kane for efforts inside the box over the last two Gameweeks, with seven apiece. At a time when Georginio Wijnaldum has been moved to a deep-lying role in the double-pivot, Mitrovic could emerge as the best route into the Magpies attack for the double and beyond.

Lanzini as the Hammers’ budget option….
The Hammers midfielder threw his hat into the ring ahead of their pair of double Gameweeks by netting in the 2-2 stalemate at Stamford Bridge last time around. With many looking to acquire Dimitri Payet for the run-in, Lanzini and Michail Antonio could be set to battle it out for our affections as the Hammers host struggling Palace this time around. Priced at just 4.9, Lanzini could barge his way past the former Forest flier if he can start to replicate the form that served up three goals and two assists in six appearances between Gameweek 8-13.

Mahrez and Kane’s pre-wildcard form….
As we start to plan for the impending doubles, the popular Fantasy pair remain in fine fettle as Leicester and Spurs battle it out for the title. Mahrez has bagged the winner in two of the Foxes last three, whilst two goals and an assist against Bournemouth helped Kane produce back-to-back double figure hauls for the first time this term. Owned by 68% and 46% respectively, can we really afford to cash them in at this point?

Martinez’ wide men….
With a trio of double Gameweeks to contend with, the Toffees look primed for wildcard investment over the run-in. Although Ross Barkley’s security of starts ensures he remains the favoured midfield option, his lack of form – ten blanks in 12 appearances – has been anything but convincing. Aaron Lennon has now started the last six and racked up four goals and an assist over that period, though with the likes of Kevin Mirallas now back from suspension and big-money signing Oumar Niasse getting amongst the goals over the international break, Martinez’ penchant for rotation could still scupper our plans for investing in the Toffees options out wide.

Bolasie’s chance to shine….
It’s fair to say that Palace’s form could barely be more unconvincing as they prepare for back-to-back doubles in Gameweeks 33 and 34. Having conceded in each of the last 11, many may baulk at Scott Dann’s 5.7 asking price, whilst at the other end of the pitch, the uncertainty surrounding Connor Wickham’s fitness is enough to deter investment. In the centre of the park, though, there’s hope that Yannick Bolasie may spring into form just in time. Granted, the wide man has been anything but consistent but, as ten and 15-point hauls against West Brom and Newcastle attest to, he’s capable of explosive returns on his day. We’ll be keeping a keen eye on his Upton Park showing, particularly with that pair of home clashes against Norwich and Everton in Gameweek 33 in mind.

Defoe as a third forward….
Back-to-back goals against Southampton and Newcastle in the last two Gameweeks took the Sunderland forward’s total to 12 for the season – a tally bettered by only five other frontmen. Despite his key contribution and a very kind 5.1 price tag, Defoe remain in just 4% of FPL teams as the Black Cats prepare to host West Brom this weekend. With a double Gameweek 37 also to follow, another goal-getting display could earn him a place in some wildcard teams as he becomes increasingly vital to the Wearsiders’ survival bid.

    RM WCT:

    DDG Robles
    Bellerin Monreal Dann Sakho Simpson
    Sanchez Firmino Payet Lennon Mahrez
    Kun Luku Kane

    GW 33: save FT + TC Luku
    GW 34: Dann -> Utd def + BB
    GW 35: 2 FT to get 11 players

    Main questions I have are around Oezil vs. Sanchez, Lennon vs. Barkley/Lanzini, Kane vs. DGWers in 34 (e.g. Martial, sturridge)...

      Like it. You happy with Monreal? Is he nailed?

      I personally am getting Barkley and opting for Ozil.
      Means I keep a front three of Kun. Kane. Lukaku

      Looks good. I'd go coutinho over firminho and Lennon to Barkley if you can. Not convinced of a better striker than Kane at the moment

        Monreal is nailed yes, more than Gabriel that I see many folks are adding here...

        Barkley vs. Lennon if we look at past 4/5 games states and form, choice tends on Lennon but it's more of a gamble...

        Couthino I am very much thinking about it with the news that Firmino did not train yesterday...

      Good stuff, prefer any of the Everton defenders over Dann though, with Lanzini instead of Lennon (in my opinion)

        That would mean for me doubling on Everton defense.... Dann will have norwich at home in the DGW, then he's off + his goal threat + having 4 vs 3 DGWers in 33 makes me think

          Why not just get Migs now? Then take a punt on Bolasie for GW33 and bring in Firmino GW34?

            Yes makes sense, gives me more flexibility for 35, still triple everton for 33/34 with Jagielka instead of Danne for example - Thanks!

              But I can't really decide who to get for Bolasie in 34

                  Think he's being overlooked. Those fixtures really are nice! Problem is we're not scoring enough goals.

                  But Palace and Villa.....surely?!

                  Other problem is not enough midfield slots - lliverpool mid / Arsenal mid / Payet....need someone cheaper too for overall team value I expect. Tough to slot him in. Unless you're Jay

                    Haha, i think i can easily fit him in instead of Sanchez. That would leave me with millions to sort the defense out 😀

                    I do think he is golden for those two GW's. Unless he gets a RC in 25 minutes for two stupid fouls.

          Adrian - Palace are TERRIBLE at the moment and Pardew normally tails off at the end of the season, West Ham fighting for their highest ever finish

          Courtois - Not the best form, no motivation , but playing v the worst team in the league.

          Ruddy - 2 CS in the last 2, seems to be fighting, relegation 6 pointer at home v Newcastle who seem better at St. James' Park.

            I almost got Adrian last night because i thought i would lose value on Butland, but realized i wont so i slept on it. Wanted to see what other people think as well!

    Morning all, with both my keepers picking up injuries on international duty I need to use my FT this week to bring in a replacement for the next two GWs, before I use my WC.

    With Everton, and Palace having a DGW next week it would make sense to bring one of them in, but which one?

    Everton have three away games, but Palace have a terrible defensive record, is it even worth doing this?

    Is 11 too few DGWers for a bench boost team?

    I've activated my WC this week and am happy with the set up. I have two Everton players for their three DGWs, 11 DGWers in total for GW34, 12 players for GW35 and 7 DGWers already in my squad for DGW37.

    The logic was that if I get my team set up like this, I only mostly have players in my team who I'd want anyway, regardless of DGW and don't have to plan future transfers (such as Lanzini -> somebody with GW35) down the line, I can just play it by ear when bringing in more DGW37 plaers, which allows for injuries etc.

      I think it can be a smart move, conservative approach could well turn out to be the best option. Temptation and greed for points is turning us all towards maximising DGW players.

        Yeah, I just can see the logic selling Kane/Alli/Mahrez, so I'm keeping them.

        Also Azpi with Villa coming up and a DGW down the line...

        Not going to panic into taking my team apart completely 🙂

        Good company, then 🙂

        Have this I'm sticking with, I think:

        DDG{x2}, Darlow{x2}
        Bellerin{x2}, Sakho[x2}, Evans{x2}, Funes Mori{x2}, Azpi
        Özil{x2}, Payet{x2}, Firmino{x2}, Alli, Mahrez
        Lukaku{x2}, Agüero{x2}, Kane

        Only question mark is Evans.

        1. Irish Madridista ⭐
          • 13 Years
          8 years, 2 months ago

          Yup, pretty similar to mine alright!

          Ruddy - Darlow{x2}
          Bellerin{x2} - Fuchs - Simpson - Klose - Coleman{x2}
          Ozil{x2} - Payet{x2} - Mahrez - Lanzini{x2} - Sanchez{x2}
          Kun{x2} - Kane - Lukaku{x2}

          DDG has an amazingly tempting DGW34, but I just can't stretch to him if I don't want to play him every week.
          Firmino looks a fantastic option too.. and I WISH I had Alli this week, some form.. Best of luck with it 🙂

            Thanks matey. Yeah I couldn't look past DDG, really. Smalling too expensive and I don't get the Rojo-love.

            Ruddy will do alright, I think. I'll be looking to get a Nor defender in for their DGW.

      Probably not if they're quality. People seem to be happy to shove anyone in just to meet 15 DGW players. I personally think a lot of the nailed on and consistent SGW players will outscore the Bolasies people are trying to squeeze in.

          Sanchez - Ozil - Payet(C) - Lanzini - Mahrez

          Kinda wanted to bench Kane and play Lukaku, but that's just crazy talk with his ownership..

            I would not bench Lukaku. No chance. Easily bench Lanzini. I wouldnt even consider anything else.
            Man U defensively is a shambles when it comes to stats and Lukaku wants that golden boot. I am considering to WC now just so i can TC him next gw.

              Agreed, United are useless defensively at the minute, but I can't (moreso won't, sorry man) bench Lanzini, he's my attacking punt this week 🙂 Expecting West Ham to comfortably beat Palace, and I don't want to play Lanzini next week so there'd be little point in me getting him if ONLY for GW34 and shipping straight away after..

              I hate benching Lukaku, and I know he'll score, so I had Kane on my bench for ages, BUT I chickened out of that..

              I'll flip a few coins 😛

      Not really sure there's much love.

      It's more that he's 3.9m, has a double including a decent home fixture. Defensive stats are on the up for Newcastle apparently, and even though it's not the greatest fixture there's no blank in GW35. Decent wildcard enabler.
