Armed with a wealth of information from the first Gameweek of the season, our community writers have been assessing the value of popular and under the radar options, as well as discovering how well some of the Fantasy Premier League’s most experienced managers fared. Our round-up also looks at the battle lines already being drawn up between veterans and casual managers, a goalkeeping soap opera and the mixed fortunes of Fantasy football’s cheapest players. Elsewhere, we catch up with the statisticians in the Members area take a peak at the key numbers of Gameweek 1’s most attacking players and we also find out who has claimed early bragging rights in our community competitions.

The Community Articles

Players from the two Manchester clubs dominated the thinking of our community writers this week with TimT pondering whether the 74,000 Fantasy Premier League managers who have drafted in United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic this week may have been better off transferring in his team-mate Wayne Rooney.

Mesqueun has been looking at Manchester City’s attack and found that Raheem Sterling could be an unlikely source of attacking points this season.

Meanwhile, supporters of both Manchester clubs are among those in high spirits ahead of Gameweek 2, according to Bolivian Seaman’s latest look at what the fans are saying.

The wealth of choice among Liverpool’s attackers is the subject of Loudini’s first community article, while Andy85wsm looks back at FFScout’s successes and failures in predicting Gameweek 1’s top performers.

The veterans being tracked by Kavali had some notable crystal ball gazing successes, after finishing the Gameweek well above the overall average. As well as revealing details of the 50-strong group of stalwarts being monitored, he also rolled out details of their excellent first Gameweek of the season.

Finally, SW6 announced that battle is well and truly underway between Fantasy Football addicts and casual managers this season as he looks to get one over a smug Steve in accounts.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With just one Gameweek completed the FPL transfer market is already busy. We considered whether some managers may be too hasty to ditch certain players, while Demba Ba examined whether Philippe Coutinho justifies being one of the week’s most sought after players. The Liverpool midfielder also came under the gaze of Applebonkers earlier this week.

Following his goal against Everton last weekend, Erik Lamela is also attracting interest. Gooner Kebab asks whether the Spurs midfielder is the real deal or a one-match wonder.

Among the busiest in the transfer market are those who had a poor week. These unfortunate managers popped their head above the parapet to take part in our first Rough with the Smooth of the season, where our community details their tales of joy and woe.

Joe Hart has certainly had a rough week, after being left out of the Manchester City starting XI for the foreseeable future. Dusan Citizen dropped by to offer some more detail around the soap opera that is emerging between the sticks at Manchester City.

Makaveli23 added to the chat about misfortune by asking the community for their Fantasy Football horror stories, with Stoke’s Jon Walters coming off the bench, along with his missed penalty and two own goals, a particular tale of fright for him.

Burnley players will also be cursing their poor luck after losing to Swansea at home last weekend. Aggero urges caution in writing off their ability to keep teams at bay at Turf Moor this season.

There were mixed fortunes for the 4.0 priced defenders in the Fantasy Premier League player list, according to Bobby F. While Marc Wilson has moved from Stoke to Bournemouth, where he once again faces stiff competition for a starting role, Swansea’s Stephen Kingsley and Jordi Amat earned their investors valuable clean sheet points and the hope they can continue being named in the starting XI.

The Members Tables

Before ditching some of Gameweek 1’s low scoring players it may pay to see if they feature on my goals imminent table and offer the prospect of points over the coming weeks.

Team performance comes under the microscope of 76509, while premK86 takes a look at the statistics of Gameweek 1’s most attacking players in his latest table.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The Scout Picks Challenge, which is based around our own Scout Picks, is back with @OFCProdigy dropping by this week to announce details of how to take part in Gameweek 2’s contest. Another popular community contest to launch this week was Fantasy Football Frog‘s Five Prediction.

The draw for the qualifying round of JaffaliciousFFS UEFA Champions League competition has now been made, while in TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score in Gameweek 1 was 43, which saw 165 players depart and close to 3000 remain.

In Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league the leader after Gameweek 1 is Aidan Pearson, who is 731st overall with a score of 85.

Going into Gameweek 2 Facer has taken an early lead in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league, closely followed by 2013/14 FPL champion Tom Fenley.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Mourinho on Mkhiaryan: Asked in his Thursday press conference to reveal his thinking behind the decision, Mourinho provided an honest and detailed answer, reiterating that Mkhitaryan would be an important player for United this term.

"Options," the boss said. "I was reading the game against Leicester and I felt that we needed the speed of Jesse Lingard and, in the game against Bournemouth, that [Juan] Mata would help guard against their pressing really high. He could reach some spaces behind the line of the pressure and could be very useful for us.

"I decided to play [Wayne] Rooney in both games, close to Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], and I didn't start with Micki. When some managers buy players, they feel they have to protect their choices by playing the player all the time – I am not like this. Before me, comes the team and what I think is best for the team.

"I felt that Lingard and Mata were better options for the team in these matches, with the reality of the Premier League, so I made that decision.

"I keep saying the same thing, though, that Mkhitaryan is a super football player and will give us a lot during the season."

he won't play tmrw, targeting return gw3 v spurs. I'd sell mane yes but not for a straight swap for coutinho/firmino (liv midfielder), fixtures between gw3,4,5 not the best.

mane to sterling would probably be my move in that case

I am loving Mark's new role on FPL. He has become a FPL celebrity of sorts.

Talking of celebrities, I hope someone starts a petition to get Mark into the next celebrity big brother house. He in my opinion would be the biggest name of the lot to go in (going by this years standards) and with a good backing from the fpl community behind him I am sure he would go on and take the crown.

Currently have Shaw, Amat, Kingsley and Stones starting with Tadic on the bench. I feel like if I start Tadic I need to bench Shaw. But then, I could hedge my bet on Swansea and bench Amat. I'd still get one CS if Swansea keep Hull out and can hope that between Shaw and Tadic, one will get 6 points or more.

But then I think, maybe Stones is the one to bench. Sigh. What would you do?

    Quick Price Change Question.

I'm an owner of Tadic & Vardy. Both look like possibilities to drop over the next week.

Opposite to that, Redmond & Ibra both look to price. I'm facing what looks like a minimum 0.4 swing.

Is it worth a -4 in order to bank that value and avoid being left short?

I'm holding off hoping if Southampton do score it will involve Tadic (thinking set piece) more likely to get points through a corner or freekick than open play on Utd, but that's just my opinion and logic. I have Ibra so that's not a worry for me but I'm worried about Musa, keeping him just because if he plays I think he will score, if he doesn't play I kinda of mucked it up this week but oh well. Vardy will improve this week and I think he will score if Musa doesn't play. I'm sticking until after the Leicester game

At this point in the season it's a tough choice as there are no options in the middle ranges 9.9 etc. Personally I'd keep tadic and drop vardy and protect a bit of value but points are more important and tadic looks primed for points

So, Tardy and Vadic to IBRA and Redmond.

Currently on Deulofeu after a last minute regrettable switch from Redmond last week.

0.0 in the bank and also have Townsend.

Was going to stick but I'm not happy with Deu's potential lack of game time so I'm wondering whether to go back to Redmond or have a cheeky punt on Mark Noble... Any opinions?

Stick for now. Why change so suddenly? He looked dangerous against one of last year's best sides and has the ability to become a top top player. Mirallas is more likely to be sidelined imo, and Deulofeu will surely start this week with doubts over Bolasie and Lukaku.

    Repost

    Hope someone gives me reply

    Last question before deadline !

    1. Play 3-5-2 with Diomande on the bench with mids of:
    Hazard, Firmino/Coutinho, Lamela, Bolasie/Deulofeu, Redmond

    or

    2. Play 3-4-3 with Capoue on the bench with forwards of:
    Aguero, Ibrahimovic and Grey/Negredo/Carrol/Rondon...

I would play 3 up front and bench Capoue.

I personally always aim for 3-4-3 and I feel capoue is overrated

foster only (no rotation) owners, are you planning to own him for the whole season or transfer in heaton when wba fixtures go downhill and burnleys' improve?

I'll reassess in the GW4 WC. Wouldn't mind playing him all season but WBA tend to get less solid towards the end of the season.

You have Foster and therefore you are asking for others opinions of what they are planning on doing with a player you have. Which is funny as you don't like others providing their opinions yet you are asking for them. You are a complete moron.

I only change GKs at a wildcard or emergencies (Krulliot 14/15).

Last year I had Butland and McCarthy almost all year.

        Why wouldnt you keep?

You picked him, presumably knowing that West Brom were so effective away from home last season. You picked him knowing that West Brom can keep a clean sheet against anyone, and that Foster will get save points.

I've gone for him and Jaku and I will keep them, baring injury, or if West Brom look like relegation fodder. If Foster stays fit the whole year, I think there will be little difference between him and some of the top goalkeepers. Foster offers stability, and an extra 1.0 for more flexibility elsewhere.

As long as Jaku keeps his place I feel good about playing Foster through GW7, starting Jaku for GW8 through GW11, then going back to Foster for GW12 through GW14, at the least.

Yeah, my reaction too. Townsend is in off the bench for me now though. Real shame, as the fixture offered a good chance of a clean sheet and Kone offers fantastic goal threat.
