Opinion

The Pre-Match Preamble – Gameweek 6

I’ve got results but I think I may have just lost the dressing room.

There have been several turning points.

Firstly, my continual underestimation of Etienne Capoue’s ability has caused dissenting murmurings since week one.

I bought the guy for one job and one job only.

He’s meant to be there when I need him – springing to life to deliver me a handy two points when my big signings are in the stands.

Somewhere along the line, he’s missed a meeting or his misread the job description. Either way, he seems intent on embarrassing me with his unfeasible and unsustainable strike rate.

I’ve stuck to my guns. He’s benched again today but nobody, including me, is very happy about it.

There’s talk of changing formation – of switching to all-out-attack just so that Capoue can get minutes.

In truth, I’m tempted. At least to get an incentive to drop in on a floodlit Turf Moor on Monday night.

As it is, Burnley against Watford sounds like x-certificate stuff, made all the more chilling by the prospect that Capoue will undermine my judgement further with another sublimely taken goal.

On top of this, my transfer policy is now in question.

I’ve managed to get away with ushering Eden Hazard quietly out of the back door.

There’s hardly been a whisper about that – those opening three Gameweeks now seem forgotten.

Clearly, the lads remember how he let us down last season. I think they were thankful that I’d not fallen under his spell again.

But my other Gameweek 6 move has provoked a much bigger reaction.

There’s talk that my decision to eject Zlatan Ibrahimovic is personal. Accusations that there wasn’t room enough in the dressing room for two swollen egos.

He didn’t go quietly, either.

“Zlatan is not happy. Zlatan says that your blind faith in Aguero and your concept that Lukaku will show consistency is ridiculous. You will see that he will blank at Bournemouth. You are a fool to turn your back on Zlatan.”

Yeah. Whatever. There’s the door, don’t forget your hair bands.

I fully accept that it would be just like Zlatan to punish me.

Today’s early kick-off will be another 90 minutes of flinching and fidgeting. The forthcoming Old Trafford meetings with Stoke and Burnley also look to be terrifying prospects.

But I’m in a decision-making business and, as I’ve said before, this season is forcing me to make some big ones.

Lukaku and Sanchez had to stay. As for Aguero – he’s just Aguero and he comes tattooed with the captain’s armband.

But I admit – “Mark might have made an error.”

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Pickford or Heaton really doesn't matter.

Both teams will concede and both keepers will have plenty save points.

I see the only thing splitting these two points wise is if one manages to save a pen, and that's probably as likely as one of them getting a CS. In other words, fairly much not gonna happen.

If you have Watford attackers in your team play Pickford, and if you have CPL attackers in your team play Heaton.

If you have both then toss a coin and enjoy the 2-4 points. 😉

I don't think that's even close to being true. Coutinho is the best player. Will that translate into points; debatable but it's a lottery with those 3 plus Lallana. 1 thing Coutinho has in his locker over the rest is set pieces though

    2. DK5
      • 13 Years

Its quite a manner of taste. Mane most explosive, but can be quiet for long spells. Coutinho has the long shots. Firminho more steady I guess.

look at firmino when he has played his game is now about creating space and assits

coutiho on set pieces and shoots a lot

mane is just eplosive and fast so will get both goals & assits

i will put money on mane out scoring firmino

cout also finds himself on the bench a lot. firm and mane are pretty firm starters. firm is getting a lot of shots, and mane is on form.

firmino is nailed, as is mane, coutinho is not

Lat minute repost! Approaching final WC drafts. A or B?

    A)
    Pickford, JAKUPOVIC
    Walker, WILLIAMS, Holebas, McAuley, Amat
    Sanchez, Sterling, Firmino, Antonio, Capoue
    Aguero, Lukaku, RASHFORD
    £0.0 ITB

    B)
    CECH, Pickford
    Walker, BAINES, Holebas, McAuley, Amat
    Sanchez, Sterling, Firmino, Antonio, Capoue
    Aguero, Lukaku, DIOMANDE
    £0.3 ITB

Was fairly set on A, but tending towards B at the moment for more balance and no Rashford/Capoue benching headaches

Hi my fellow fantasy addicts. I'd much appreciate input on this team.

    Jakupovic - Pickford
    Clyne - Amat - Williams - B.Smith - Valencia
    Fletcher - Sterling - Sanchez - Antonio - Firminho
    Rashford - Lukaku - Aguero (c)

Plan is to save transfer and then do Valencia and Rashford to whomever is in form (unless Rashford somehow is a confirmed starter).

Don't much like to drop Capoue, but getting Fletcher frees up 0.4 which helps the team a lot.

I'll try to comment on others team. Have a wonderful gameweek!

I've played my wildcard this gw, and I also got rid of Hazard and Zlatan. Considering mid-term fixtures, it's probably the best move to do. It's true Zlatan can always score, but Aguero will score more than him. If you are to have Aguero and Lukaku, it's impossible to have Zlatan as well and have a balanced team. Obviously you can always be thinking it was an error after today's 12:30 match, but in the long run your team will probably benefit from your moves.

Got Capoue, Antonio, Sterling, Ibra, Lukaku... 0 ITB

    A) Start Sanchez, transfer Dembele, bench Nacho

    B) Start Sanchez, bench Dembele, transfer Nacho
    For Nacho (ITB=7): Rondon

    C) Transfer Sanchez and Nacho, bench Dembele
