The Weekend Team News

Olivier Giroud is back in training as Arsene Wenger confirms that Arsenal have no injuries from last week’s win at Swansea. Robert Snodgrass is a worry for Hull ahead of their trip to Chelsea, while Leighton Baines is also a minor doubt as Everton roll up to Palace.

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal have no injuries from the squad that faced Swansea last weekend. The Gunners boss also stated that Hector Bellerin, Francis Coquelin and Kieran Gibbs “should be available” for selection at home to Burnley, though Theo Walcott misses out again.

Winston Reid, Sofiane Feghouli, Sam Byram and Andy Carroll are all minor doubts for West Ham’s trip to Middlesbrough, with Slaven Bilic “very optimistic” that all four will be available at the Riverside.

Robert Snodgrass is a slight doubt for Hull’s trip to Chelsea with a muscle problem. David Meyler is set to return to training today and is likely to be available.

Ronald Koeman has revealed that Leighton Baines is “struggling a bit” with a rib problem but expects the defender to be fit in time to face Palace. Maarten Stekelenburg – who was on the bench last weekend – is now 100% fit, according to his manager.

Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Bertrand have recovered from the knocks that forced them to miss Southampton’s midweek cup clash with Norwich. Steven Davis remains on the sidelines, though, as Claude Puel’s welcome Leicester to St Mary’s.

Jan Vertonghen has been ruled out for around six weeks with the ankle injury that forced him off against West Brom last weekend. Mauricio Pochettino also revealed that Erik Lamela is set for further scans on a hip injury that leaves the club uncertain as to when he will return.

Antonio Barragan and Gaston Ramirez remain unavailable for Middlesbrough’s clash with West Ham. The Teesside team have new boy Patrick Bamford in contention after he was snapped up from Chelsea in midweek.

Mark Hughes has revealed that Bojan is back in contention for Stoke’s clash with United after recovering from a hip problem. The Potters manager has no new injury concerns ahead of the bet365 encounter.

West Brom will make a late assessment on Jonny Evans’ ongoing calf problem, while Tony Pulis has conceded they are still waiting to hear if Allan Nyom is cleared to play after withdrawing from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Paul Clement has confirmed that recent additions Martin Olsson and Tom Carroll will feature at Anfield, though fellow new boy Luciano Narsingh is doubtful with a calf complaint.

Heurelho Gomes remains a doubt for Watford’s trip to Bournemouth due to a back problem. Daryl Janmaat (groin) will be assessed, while Isaac Success and Nordin Amrabat remain sidelined.

Javier Manquillo has been ruled out of Sunderland’s trip to West Brom with a calf complaint. David Moyes expects Jack Rodwell to be available but is less optimistic on Victor Anichebe and Steven Pienaar’s chances of recovering in time.

Marc Wilson is sidelined for Bournemouth’s home match with Watford due to a hamstring problem. The Cherries are also without Simon Francis, who serves the last of a three-match suspension.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Just looking at the fixtures after this week and City have got a good run but really don’t know who to invest in.

The defence is out for obvious reasons.

Aguero I would only get in for Ibra, and I don’t want to get rid of Ibra who also has great fixtures.

KDB is interesting as a differential but would have to come in for Hazard.

Sterling is currently top of my list but I am struggling to accommodate him with a lot of other good options around.

Anyone else planning to bring in City players after this week??

Form over fixtures. City look in disarray at the moment. Why would you want Sterling ahead of Alli, Eriksen, Coutinho, Lallana etc?

Trying to make some ground up in the league.

Is Costa as (C) too much of a risk. I'd set Sanchez as (V) just in case - but is there potential for him just to make an appearance.
Hoping that if he is fit, and the toys are back in the pram, he starts.
Surely at home to Hull is a good option. Plus some 250k less backers?

  18. ViperStripes

I'm going to bench Kane...this is why

I have front 9 all with good fixtures and all with good form or good stats (I'm looking at you Pogba)
    Sanchez, Lallana*, Philips*, Stanislas*, Pogba*
    Defoe*, Kane*, Ibra

I don't want to suffer the Mahrez curse of last season when people bench the lowest price player regardless of points potential, so that means I'll ignore price.
If I'm to claw up the ranks I need differentials that aren't on the bench, so of the 6 possible candidates I need to play the lowest owned
    Defoe 1,274,799
    Lallana 1,175,070
    Philips 880,320
    Kane 828,238
    Pogba 498,677
    Stanislas 143,089

So hedging my risk I want to play the players that will hurt the most if they did well but were on bench (Defoe & Lallana)
And I want to play the differentials (Pogba & Stanislas)

The unknown I can't factor into ownership is how many will Captain Kane (which is likely) and how many will bench say Defoe (which again is likely)

So choice is now between Philips & Kane

Philips is being talked of as potential Captain material this week on here, Kane clearly isn't.
MCI won't get beaten 4-0 every week and will be looking for a come back game (so tight defence I would expect).
Tottenham don't need to win as much as MCI i.e. 1 pt would be good result for TOT but MCI need 3 pts to keep on track for possible title but at least CL.

    So Kane it is.

It's good. Holgate will only play in a 3-4-2-1, ie rarely. Get a 3.9 and bump Cook up to a 4.4. Get PJones in for McAuley while you're at it, if you can gl.

I'd be tempted to get Hazard in. Got a feeling he'll explode

Well might just do it as well. Reckon Hazard is gonna finally explode with all that penalties hull concede

We need to extend Alex Sandro's contract asap. Great player.

Alli for me. Biased though as I own him, more goal threat. He's the explosive pick IMO

Was having a look at whether Kane (C) might be a safer bet than Sanchez? Looking at the past five PL fixtures: goals scored (+) for strikers respective teams and conceded (-) for their opponents

    Arsenal + 2G/game
    Burnley - 2G/game

    City -1.2G/game
    Spurs + 2G/game

there's a wider gap with ARSvBRN (4) than with MCIvSPU (3.2). And Kane's largest 5 scores have all come against middling to weak opposition and 4/5 at home (SUN/WHU/SWA/Wat/WBA). Granted he appears to be finding some form now, but really it all points towards a bit of a punt that's very unlikely to yield more than 9 points

I did something simpler with Hazard v Sanchez. Do you think there is a bias in how we do these things? Are we looking for what we want?

it's incredibly simple and doesn't account for anything about how the teams themselves match up, tactics, player form etc. But I think there's enough in there to say it's unlikely that Kane will explode and Sanchez will do nothing, whereas it's moderately likely that Kane will blank and Sanchez will score points.

I was hoping it would back Kane, so it backfired if I tried to bias it!

    WC week, settled on this:

    Heaton (Jaku)

Alonso - Rose - Baines (Friend - Kingsley)

    Coutinho - Hazard - Sanchez - Stan - Phillips

    Ibra - Kaku (Barnes).

0.0 itb (first time this year!)

    Next week Hazard - Alli/Eriksen (I think).

    Any final thoughts?
