Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope

The lull in domestic proceedings affords us time to check in with the latest batch of miscreants on the Suspension Tightrope, with a number of players still very much at risk of a ban.

As highlighted by the FA website, anyone who reaches ten yellows by the second Sunday of April (inclusive) will be subject to a two-match suspension.

With Gameweeks in each of the upcoming two weekends, in addition to a full set of matches next midweek, we essentially still have three lots of league fixtures to navigate.

The only sides that this does not apply to are Crystal Palace and Arsenal, who face off in the final fixture of Gameweek 32, which takes place on Monday April 10 – ie, one day after the cut-off date.

As evidenced by the lengthy list in your sidebar on the right of the site, three players are just one caution shy of reaching the ten-card mark – Joe Allen, Craig Dawson and Mark Noble.

Sitting in 10% of Fantasy Premier League squads, the Potters’ midfielder is the most popular of that trio – he still has to steer past clashes with Leicester City, Burnley and Liverpool to avoid a place on the naughty step.

Dawson has been drafted in by over 11,000 on the back of two goals against Arsenal last time out but must avoid falling foul of the referee’s wrath against Man United, Watford and Southampton.

Noble missed the Gameweek 29 loss to Leicester through injury, though has since returned to training. Nonetheless, with Pedro Obiang ruled out for the season, it remains to be seen whether Slaven Bilic will immediately rush his captain back for encounters with Hull City, Arsenal and Swansea City.

A further 19 players sit on eight yellows.

For those Fantasy managers eyeing up double Gameweek 34, this also includes Palace’s Jason Puncheon, United’s Paul Pogba and Middlesbrough trio Martin de Roon, Adam Clayton and Gaston Ramirez, who all play twice in that round of fixtures.

If any of that quartet were to earn their tenth booking in Gameweek 32, for example, they would trigger a two-match suspension and therefore miss their respective sides’ first match of double Gameweek 34.

Although Pogba is still struggling through injury, those considering the likes of Puncheon or Ramirez as cheap midfield options will have to keep a keen eye on their discipline.

Twenty players currently boast seven yellow cards apiece.

Among the big names here are Chelsea pair Diego Costa and Pedro, who are still at risk should they pick up a caution in each of the next three (CPL, MCI, bou).

While that feat is more than achievable by Costa, in particular, his 39% ownership will be somewhat soothed by one booking in his last nine league outings, while the 10%-owned Pedro has gone eight league outings without collecting a caution.

In saying that, it’s still worth noting that should either player contrive to somehow earn themselves a suspension in such fashion, they would only miss one league match (against Man United in Gameweek 33) as their FA Cup semi-final clash with Spurs takes place prior to a Gameweek 34 derby with Man City.

The same scenario applies to the 13%-owned Raheem Sterling.

Should the City wide man be booked in the next three league fixtures against Arsenal, Chelsea and Hull to resultantly trigger a two-match ban, he’d still be available for the Gameweek 34 derby against United as he would instead miss the Gameweek 33 match with Southampton and ensuing FA Cup semi-final with Arsenal.

United’s Antonio Valencia – the most transferred in player for the Gameweek – is also on seven yellows.

Now up to 14% ownership, the Ecuadorian could conceivably still miss the first match of double Gameweek 34 if he’s booked in the next three league matches (WBA, EVE, sun).

Ironically, Zlatan Ibrahimovic – who is also on seven cautions – will avoid toppling off the tightrope due to the fact that he is currently suspended.

The United forward serves the last of a three-match ban in the Gameweek 30 encounter against West Brom, meaning he can only accumulate two further bookings, in Gameweeks 31 and 32, and move onto nine cautions at most before the cut-off date is extended.

Hull’s Tom Huddlestone, meanwhile, will remain on seven cautions until the cut-off date passes as he will sit out the next three matches due to suspension after being sent off in the Gameweek 29 loss at Everton.

As mentioned, Palace will only play twice before the April 9 cut-off date, so both Yohan Cabaye and Damien Delaney are safe on seven yellows apiece ahead of their double Gameweek 34.

One player not yet mentioned – Watford’s Jose Holebas – remains way out in front for total bookings earned. The wing-back sits on 12 cautions for the season, just three short of the 15 required before he would suffer a three-match ban. No player has ever earned 15 bookings in a single Premier League season; Watford’s reluctance to break that record may well explain why the Greek defender was benched at Crystal Palace in Gameweek 29.

Any thoughts about Friends availability for Boros dgw 34? When is he expected to be back, and is he worth keeping?

If you have other defenders to play until then I'd keep just in case he's back

Gna make a decision on Boro in 32 when they have Burnley. Too much doubt atm so an extra couple of gws is useful to see who to get... Gibson too expensive at 4.9 imo

Still unsure whether to take a hit this week as chasing. Last time of asking 🙂

    0ft 1.2itb

    Pickford
    Valencia Davies Alonso Maguire
    Coutinho mane sane siggy
    Lukaku aguero
    Grant yoshida Gray antonio

Thinking maybe mahrez for coutinho but will be a struggle to get Sanchez next week unless I do -8. I am chasing ML by 70 points so I guess now or never? Would captain mahrez too... Cheers!

At what point do Sky players give up hope on the FFS members area fixing it's Sky stats?

I've been told it's on the roadmap since the start of the season. Not many weeks left now...

We've not supported the Sky Sports game this season so it did go behind other items on the fix list. I'll speak to Ed tonight once we've sorted the Cup draw and see if its a quick fix - I suspect it is but may need us to reprocess the season data to repopulate the tables with the recalculated bonus.

I'm interested in views on Deeney...

He seems to be off everyone's radar but has some sweet fixtures (SUN WBA tot SWA hul) and 5 goals in 7 games. I'm considering him as a switch from Aguero to free up Sanchez funds next week and then maybe out for Zlatan / Kane later.

    Why no love for Troy?

For me, when I watch him I just don't think he or Watford are that good. He doesn't really seem to be particularly good at anything whereby he could make a goal for himself (pace/dribbling/long shot etc). He's a right place right time lump who's had a good streak. I don't trust him enough to buy.

Fair comment, but plenty of strikers have fallen into that category over the years, Inzaghi, Lineker, Klose for example. In better teams admittedly, but don't Gabbi and Llorente fit the same profile, in equally naff teams?

Pretty much yes. Gabbi particularly doesn't look that good long term also but then he's in a better team. Llorente seems to carry some aerial threat. He's made some headed goals out of not the best crosses (that game he scored two, Burnley?) It's marginal, he's hardly a top rate player. Just the feeling watching him.

Already used FT for Coleman > Valencia

    King / Alli / Siggy / Coutinho
    Costa / Carroll / Lukaku

    Cech / Davies / Brunt / Pieters

Valencia played a lot of games. A lot to play in April for him. I'm afraid that he may be rested at some point in next games. His next fixtures (DGW included) are worse than Walker ones imo. I think that Walker will outscore Valencia.

Well I thought he'd be good this season. 3 assists and a very lucky goal all season isn't all that really. Rotation is definitely a concern, the Utd defense isn't that stable with injuries so CS aren't guaranteed. The fixtures could definitely be better. The extra DGW element is overhyped imo when it comes to him. I think there are better options is all.

    Best defender upto 6.3?
Thinking Alderweireld Davies Valencia Bertrand..have Baines and Alonso

      Valencia

Alderweireld could be an excellent differential but not sure he's worth 0.1 less than Walker or 0.8 more than Vertonghen. Davies is a good short term option but transfer waiting to happen. Wouldn't go this route unless you plan to WC before GW34. Bertrand looks good for attacking returns but I don't see Saints keeping many cleansheets.

    Jaku
    Fernandez, Valencia, Baines
    Sanchez, King, Siggy, Firmino, Ali
    Costa, Lukaku

    Heaton, A.Carroll, Robertson, Brunt

    1/ G2G this game week
2/ What players should I look to change in the next couple of weeks, cant do this week as no free transfers. Was thinking Brunt out and possibly Robertson for Gibson/Yoshi/Bertrand/Chambers, or even Siggy/Firmino out or Carrol.
    Have 1.5 itb

Was all set on bringing in Walker for Coleman (already own Valencia) but after scoutcast yesterday Mark, has made me consider Alderweireld. My question is who do I get?

    A). Walker

    B). Alderweireld

Walker if you're leading and others under you have him too.

Alder if you're chasing and want to be different.

    Double gameweeks:

Does anyone know when the other doubles are likely to be scheduled for?

Some teams have 2 doubles to still be rescheduled, Southampton and Arsenal...

All other DGWs will be in GW37 except for Arsenal/Southampton which will be 35 or 36

Yes, was thinking of those moves with Deeney involved with 2 decent looking home fixtures. Also wanting Alli so might wait on Sanchez for the week after.
