Introducing – Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football

Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football as our brand new partner game for the 2017/18 season.

While this may be a new game to many of you, Yahoo is, of course, a hugely well-known and trusted name. They were also one of the first to pioneer an online Fantasy Football game, with their season-long game one of the most engaging around.

Now Yahoo have returned with a daily Fantasy sports offering that we will be covering throughout the season.

That also means we will be able to present you with some fantastic offers, including a huge free-to-play half-season tournament with over £40,000 in prizes and perhaps even the chance to win £1 million. No, really. More on that later this week.

Yahoo are also providing a superb introductory offer for our visitors whereby, if you deposit £5, you’ll get a free £50 credited to your account. See the foot of this article for details on how to sign up and get started.

What is Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football?

If you’ve played any daily Fantasy Football or “DFS” games before, you will be instantly familiar with the concept of the Yahoo game.

You have £200 million to build a team of 11 players that you can enter in a variety of contests that are either free to play or have an entry fee with cash prizes on offer.

Each player has a value assigned which changes week-to-week based on their performance and popularity in the previous Gameweek.

The scoring system is more detailed than both Fantasy Premier League and Sky Sports – but that’s a good thing. Based on Opta data, the scoring brings a wider range of players into the mix, including those often-neglected defensive midfielders.

We will have an in-depth article, examining the nuances of the scoring system, very soon.

Yahoo’s contests allow you to tinker with your line-ups right up until kick-off, so you can monitor teamsheets and use the “late swap” feature to swoop for bargains and remove absent players.

Week to week, we will be bringing you our Yahoo Focus articles to help steer the nucleus of your XI for the weekend contests.

Why Should I play?

While so much of the Yahoo game is familiar and easy to grasp, it’s very different in a number of key ways – not least because it is very friendly for new players.

The game operates a “Fair Play” policy, with many of their contests allowing just a single-team entry, while others allow only up to ten teams per user. This levels the playing field and increases the chances that new players can compete for prizes.

There are also “no veterans” or “rookie only” contests which allow you to play and learn the game before taking on experienced managers in bigger contests. However, if you become a seasoned player, you can, of course, take part in contests that allow 50+ teams.

As mentioned, the scoring system is also finely balanced and perfectly suited to our visitors.

We are all familiar with Opta data and, if you’ve got yourself a Fantasy Football scout membership, you already have access to statistics and tools to help you select teams in the Yahoo game. We’re even building custom tables and will be implementing player prices into those tables in the coming weeks.

The Yahoo game is also fully localised for a UK audience. That may sound like a small thing but, with other daily games talking in dollars and asking you to build “rosters”, it’s nonetheless a welcome touch.

The other main reason to play is that the game has a huge range of contests for all players. There are free-to-play games, contests with entry fees as small as 25p right up to £1,000 for the high rollers.

You can register now and compete in the Gameweek 1 £10k contest that offers a £2k top prize for a £5 entry fee.

How Do I Start?

Yahoo’s Gameweek 1 contests are up and running so you can register an account and get started immediately.

As mentioned, if you register and deposit £5 or more, Yahoo will also give you a £50 bonus to be used in-game.

  • Register here
  • Deposit £5 or more and use the code FANTASY50 to claim your £50 credit
  • Choose a contest and start selecting your first Yahoo squad.

Later this week we will bring you news of the huge Fantasy Football Scout Yahoo Cup contest, which is free to play and with £50k in prizes.

Look out for details of that and further articles on the Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football game to come before August 11.

You must be over 18 years of age, resident in the UK, and of legal capacity to register with Yahoo Daily Sports and open an Account. If you sign up, please always play responsibly.

Abraham v Gayle is difficult. Same number of goals, Gayle fewer mins, Ab playing in a struggling side. Coin toss?

If you could only have attacking 'cover' from EITHER Man City (KDB) or Spurs (Eriksen/Alli), which would it be?

It's for the whole season/a draft league.

Kdb easy. I think spurs are over rated. Just the fact that they came 2nd to Leicester and whatever last year when teams like man utd, man city and arsenal all did pretty bad for their expectations. I think spurs were the better parts of a bad bunch. I think they are a good team but they haven't made any signings, I can see the players stretched by half season with champions league and all. Also kdb is at the heart of a team that should score way more goals than spurs

Spurs have the golden boot winner two years in a row as their number 9 and one of the best goalscoring midfielders in europe in delle alli and one of the top three if not the best defences in the league. How can you say they are overrated?

    DeGea - Elliot
    Francis - Kolasinac - Trippier - Suttner - Mee
Milivojevic - De Bruyne - Willian - Pogba - Carroll
    Lukaku - Kane - JRod

i just think having 2 attackers or 5.0 and 6.0 mil worth is not a great tactic. Maybe take out J-Rod and plug in some money into the defence ? J-Rod Milli Mee -> 4.5 Fraser and Yoshi

Not interested in upgrading my defence and actually will most likely downgrade Mee to Long as I don't feel I need 5 playing defenders, especially not to upgrade to a S'hampton defender after their pre-season, think they are heavily picked purely because of fixtures, and it may backfire.

As I say I have 1.0ITB, JRod can become Chicharito / Iheanacho / Gabbiadini ... Milivojevic could become Chadli / Phillips / Townsend / Iwobi ...

If I downgrade Mee to Long I could bring in Rooney / Redmond / Tadic / King / Rashford / Klaasen / Ramsey ...

so in the same way elliot got his place at the end of last season atsu finally got a run of starts in the last 4 games (scoring twice and getting an assist). since then he's been getting rave reviews in pre-season, something he didn't have last season as he only got a couple of brief cameos under antonio conte then only joined up with newcastle on deadline day. he then had the african cup of nations to further hamper his season. ghana didn't do particularly well in that tournament, but worth checking who won player of the tournament the one before when they very nearly won it.

anyway i wondered about him when the prices came out as the 4.5mil to 5.0mil list looks completely bereft of starting attacking players. a couple of newcastle fans had put me off though. that was before pre-season started, now i'm wondering again. gouffran has left so as far as i can tell his competition is fairly limited.

p.s like alonso if any free kick pops up on the right side of the area... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjFzqbxs_m4

Atsu always had great potential. I know the answer to the ACN question without google too. 😉 And he also impressed in the last World Cup.

The new signing, Murphy, is the fly in the ointment. He was good for England U21 in the summer and they paid a fair fee (for Newcastle). Rafa likes a tinker. That's the problem.

Which do you reckon scores more in the first 6-8 gameweeks?

    A) Zaha in midfield and rotate Francis/Mee in defence in a 3-4-3

    B) Kompany in defence and rotate Milivojevic/Mee in a 3-4-3/4-3-3 hybrid

    1. Mick J

A seems slightly better to me, partly due to Kompany’s ongoing injury problems.

Palace and Burnley rotate brilliantly for weeks 1-6, so if there was a nailed 4.5 Palace defender I would definitely go with A as Zaha has looked electric in pre-season. However, Kompany has done great for me over the years at various starts and ends of seasons, so I am usually of the opinion that he is always worth having until the inevitable injury occurs.

Can't decide at the moment, so will probably leave it until deadline to pick one or t'other.

Lindelöf will probably not play to start with, so pick him when he’s 5.3 and has found his place.

I’ve chosen de Gea myself, think he’ll be worth that extra £1.0.

    3. Pompel
      • 10 Years

Try to find extra 0.5 for Foster + Bailly. The returns from extra £ on defender is larger than for GK, simply because de Gea will not get that many saves and bonus with a strong defense in front.

    Elliot - 4.0 (yikes)
    Alonso - Trippier - Yoshida - Suttner - Long
    KdB - Mane - Willian - Fraser - Carroll
    Lukaku - Kane - Abraham

Is this too risky going with two 4.0 goalies?
