Development Squad – Update Four Is Live

Update Four is now live, introducing heatmaps as a major new feature, along with another round of tweaks and improvements.

Once again Matz1lla has done us proud with his efforts, as we continue to work at enhancing the site and tools on offer.

Here’s what’s included in this update:

Team and Player Heatmaps
As mentioned in our preview article, we’ve tried to go the extra mile with our heatmaps feature.

I always wanted to ensure that, when these were included in our members’ area, they would work with the ability to slice the Opta data by intervals – eg Gameweeks, matches, home and away etc.

Implemented in this way, they suddenly become more effective as a method of analysing player and team performance, not just in a single match, but in a group of fixtures or over the entire season.

So heatmaps can now be found in player and team profiles and in the player and team comparison tools.

You can also get them in the match dashboard, to view traditional team or single player maps for a particular fixture.

We’ve added maps for the following statistics:

Touches
Passes Received
Shots
Chances Created
Recoveries
Challenges Lost
Successful Take ons
Failed Take ons
Goal Attempts Conceded (teams only)
Chances Created Conceded (teams only)
Fouls Conceded (teams only)

Hazard vs Pedro – Touches – 2016/17 All Matches
members

The preview movie below shows the heatmaps in action and the options and possibilities available.

Heatmaps Preview Movie

If you’ve any feedback on the maps or have any requests on other statistics you would like to see mapped, please get in touch via support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

Bonus Points System additions
Having added the Baseline Bonus Points System statistics in Update Three, we’ve tweaked this further and implemented the statistics to both the player profiles and player comparison tools.

Baseline BPS is now included as a key statistic when comparing players.

Fantasy Goal Involvement
We’ve always included the goal involvement statistic.

This measured a player’s contribution in terms of goals scored or assisted as a percentage of his team’s goals scored when he was on the pitch.

We’ve now expanded this to offer a new statistic, which takes into account Fantasy assists. This is now found on the player statistic Involvement tables.

What’s coming next?
We’re looking to add Fantasy Premier League prices to our database in order to surface these in our profiles and player tables. The aim is to introduce the ability to filter tables by these prices.

We will then move to include Sky Sports prices in their tables and also build Yahoo Daily Fantasy tables, which will hopefully include player prices for the forthcoming contests.

Expected goals remains a background task as we continue to research and explore options for our model.

Once the season begins, we will also start to address improvements away from the Members’ area and, in particular, look at our HomeCrowd comments system.

You can see our current task list and track our progress through the next update via this roadmap.

You can also send your feedback and requests to me at mark@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

Our previous updates are detailed here, here and here.

A reminder that, if you want access to this forthcoming update and other future additions to the members’ area, you can sign up for the new campaign now for our pre-season price of £12.50 (RRP £15.00).

Existing registered users can upgrade via this link. New users, who are yet to get a registered account, can sign up via this link.

If you’re new to the benefits of Fantasy Football Scout membership, you can get full details, along with a series of movies previewing the content, via this page.

Due to the new site additions, if you encounter any loading issues with the images in comparison tool, we advise clearing the browser cache (shift and F5) to resolve this.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Are you all for making transfers early in a gameweek or do you have the patience to stretch out and wait?

A mini WC in GW3 (2FT + 1 hit) is my plan but I feel events might overtake me.

That's my plan, too, Bojack. Did it last year, too, thought I'd give my guys a second chance... and missed out on Capoue. So maybe I might change that.

Completely depends on some players. For example, if Allan Nyom explodes he's in my side before you can say NyomWatch

Definitely early transfers are the way to go at the beginning of the season to make the extra money. After the first 10 or so game weeks I'll be more wary on moved

Having a play with a 3 big up front to try and cover Man City. Do you think you can get away with something like this?

      Foster
      Trippier Cedric Hegazi
      Salah Fabregas Phillips Zaha
      Jesus Kane Lukaku

      Elliot Carrol Mee Mariappa

Thanks! I'm a bit scared by lack of balance but I think I'll risk those 3 up front and keep tinkering with the rest. Don't really want double West Brom defence for a start so need to find another 4.5 defender that rotates with Mee, any suggestions? Would help if Tompkins was nailed!

Anyone going with Kompany or Stones?
Yes, Stones hasnt given us good memories, lol, but City have opted to go 3atb in every preseason match and looks like they'll start the season 3atb.
Stones looks great value at 5.5 in that case.
Also, much being said about City's defense, City have been pretty good defensively in their preseason matches.
Plus Stones has a decent threat from set-pieces too.

      Thoughts?

The injury record that Kompany's had could make a good turn man bad.

Stones in fairness has threatened at set pieces in the games I've seen.

            He may well yes.

If so he's a solid pick like. 6.0 is a good price.

My worry would be can he play twice a week?

Kompany - if he plays he has superior goal threat and high clean sheet promise.
If he doesnt all bets are off - so not choosing another city who depends on him like that.

Swa, WBA and New looks doable ... perhaps more away games than ideal but little to be fearful about in terms of opposition. 4.5's available from all three.

No way of knowing for sure. I guess there's always an element of risk with a set of 4.5's. Swa, WHU and Bou is decent too but then is Francis nailed! Only dodgy one there is Eve away.

I think while Stanislas is out and Smith can play right wing, Francis is nailed. When Stanislas is back then it's Francis vs Smith for right back and I'd say Smith wins, then Francis vs Cook at cb and I would say Cook wins ...

Historically Spurs haven't played well at Wembley, Didn't manage a single clean sheet there last year in Europe and only managed one won, in the last game when they had already failed to qualify beyond the group stage.

Kane only scored 2 goal in 5 games in Europe last season.... Alli and Eriksen 1 in 8 games.

13, good team, nothing wrong with it. Just not sure whether Austin is nailed on. I'm between him and Redmond

Ok, I'm fairly settled on a template now.

      Which team looks better?

      Foster,
      Bailly, Trippier, Bertrand/Yosh, (Daniels)
Willian, Salah, De Bruyne, Redmond, (Ritchie)
      Lukaku, Kane

      A - 442 Bertrand & Daniels
      or
      B - 352 Yosh & Ritchie

isnt walker rotation risk due to the 3-5-2 formation?

If you can find the 0.5, get Walker.

Kompany will be good until the glass he's made of gets a crack, probably around GW3

      Who's on penalties for City

      How's this team looking :
      Forster, Elliot
      Daniels, Kompany, Long, Hunemeier, Yoshida
KDB, Willan, Milivojevic, Ritchie, T Carroll
      Kane, Lukaku, Jesus.

Just downgraded Alli to get in Jesus. Does it look good ?

        Not a great deal.

        Salah/Mane/Firm front three

        Mid three from Hendo/Can/Wij/Cout

        Nothing clearer for the rest

Curious to know which method fpl players prefer to start off with.. Do you have a tried and tested method? 2 methods how i think you can approach it..

      1. Trying To get a balanced squad with "coverage" and tweak where needed

      2. Go for broke with fixtures with the teams expected to do well ignoring "coverage " with the plan to wild card early and get in the form players when the bandwagons becomes more clear

Of course there's other ways to approach it but I usually go for option 1 and more times than not it backfires spectacularly so might try another approach but would like to hear the thoughts of others on how you approach it and any methods you'd avoid in future

With no data for "form" to go on apart from famously untrustworthy preseason, I tend to default to balance with a 3-4-3, covering option 1 of those that you put out.

I am tempted this year to change it up a bit, though, with a 3-4-3 with the 2 3s being premium and the middle being threadbare... but midfielders did score the most points last year.

        SO many damn variables

Wingbacks in so many teams has made me feel like I need to abandon the 343 top heavy I usually do and spend way more than usual in defence

Back 3 for me currently is Kolasinac, Trippier and Bertie. Never had that before, normally go for the pound shop defence. Have to pay heed to the market conditions!

planning to wc early is kind of self defeating as many of the 'hot' prospects in gw1 to3 are flash in the pan mill stones you'll flipping out for the next 10 gw.

Signed been there done that, badly burned.
