Dugout Discussion – Tuesday

Another midweek Gameweek is upon us and with it surely another bout of heavy rotation.

Benches at the ready, we start with three Tuesday night fixtures with Chelsea the headline act.

Antonio Conte’s side travel to Huddersfield Town, with the Italian having already prepared us for the absence of striker Alvaro Morata. Fatigue and a back problem keeps the Spanish striker sidelined with his red flag sparking a fire sale – over 663,000 managers have shed the striker ahead of tonight’s deadline.

That leaves Eden Hazard as the key attacking asset on show at the John Smith’s stadium, with the Belgian seemingly thrust into a central attacking role by Conte tonight. Hazard has already produced big scores on the road and will be fancied for further returns against a Terriers defence that has creaked of late.

Meanwhile, those holding Blues defender will hope for a reversal of fortunes following just a single clean sheet from the last four Gameweeks. Andreas Christensen makes his seventh successive start in Chelsea’s back three tonight.

Defence will also be the focus at Turf Moor, where Burnley host Stoke City. Ben Mee and Matt Lowton again miss out for Sean Dyche’s side, though left-back Stephen Ward takes his 25.5% ownership into the clash with the Potters.

Finally, at Selhurst Park, we’d expect defences to play second fiddle in the meeting of Crystal Palace and Watford. Both field attacking line-ups, with Richarlison starting for the visitors despite the pre-match talk of a rest for the Brazilian. Ruben Loftus-Cheek – a fifth midfielder in 440,000+ squads, could yet become a key figure and a hero in tonight’s clash.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Seriously though watch Masuaku against Chelsea. He's already had a couple of assists earlier in the year too! I know Ogbonna is cheaper 0.1 I just feel like there is a bigger upside to Masuaku

Is Masuaku nailed? Isn't he in direct competition with Cresswell for the LB position?

I can't help but feel his time is limited.
He's an awful defender and has never nailed down any run in the team in the past.

Yeah I feel the same. Cresswell is a better LB and can't see Masuaku playing LM consistently like last week.
Who's more nailed between Ogbonna and Masuaku?

West Ham fans seem to think Masuaku is nailed on the left wing, and brings real close control to the position

Has he played LM in any of the 'easier' games? Could have been played there against Chelsea for extra protection

Always difficult to say with a new manager but looking at history you'd have to say Ogbonna.
I got him in based on that. Masu is obviously a bigger gamble but that was my choice.

            2. La Gazzetta

They'e both started the past 4 games. Masuaku playing a bit higher up the wing than Cresswell. Can't imagine Moyes changing the team that beat Chelsea, especially the player who looked like their most damaging. Some risk involved but good option for 5th defender in my opinion

Looks the more exciting option and if you base it on that one game, then yes.
Under a new manager he has a fresh chance but his defending and I'd say attitude leave a lot to be desired.

Yeah he's the kind of risk I'm willing to take to try climb the ranks. Finding it a bit hard to trade any of my mids/forwards and Otamendi so hoping I can be ahead of a few with him. Could backfire but I think he will survive until DGW 22 at least.

was considering selling ward anyway for the next few weeks, not the best fixtures. I'll end up holding tho, too many other potential problems to worry about

I would sell but deciding who for is the issue, I think I'd rather Ward than a Femenia/a Kabasele from this point on as at least I know Burnley have a great chance of a cleanie in the few easier fixtures they have over the coming gws. Watford seem capable of conceding to anyone!

If it follows the pattern so far then yeah. But Poch would want Rose's pace against Sterling, Davies struggles against quick players.

After checking how many people have captained Kane (including Jay Egersdorff who said that Salah is the best option), I feel really pessimistic about captaining Salah now, especially after Klopp's comments that he was taken off as a precaution last match because of hamstring issues... 🙁

I never took C off Kane from last week that I'm aware of. Did Bavies>Ota yesterday checked subs and saved team. When I checked after deadline update C is on Coutinho. 70% of ML top 10 have Kane. I'll be crushed if he explodes

My policy is to decide on captains as soon as a gameweek opens, so armband had been on Salah since Saturday morning. I thought about changing it to Kane but decided against it, on the premise that Brighton are more solid than Stoke. We'll see tomorrow...

Coutinho the better C choice this week, I think. West Brom sit back and Coutinho shoots from distance. On free kicks and pens. Gets the extra point for a goal and clean sheet.

Sucks to hear about the hammy but just wait and see. Always a rotation risk with pool players and if his hamstring is really not right then your VC(I'm assuming Kane) will be cap anyway!

        • 8 Years

Yeah VC is Kane of course, just sucks because I would've definitely captained Kane given the information I now know... I'm afraid of a late cameo if benched, or early injury if played now.

Oh my god, don't get me started on Courtois... I got him 3 GWs ago thinking it would be nice to finally have a premium keeper with great fixtures and not have to worry about losing points etc.

And then Chelsea concede to Newcastle, West Ham, and Huddersfield...

That is my exact same scenario mate! I got him in because the fixtures till February looked tasty.... I've regretted it. Especially since pope got 11 points today and he's so much cheaper.

I think I'm going to go to De Gea... you know he's going to lead the points table for keeers at the end of the season so might as well stick with him.

Yeah De Gea would be the only premium keeper to trust from now on. If I had a spare FT I would rage transfer Courtois out immediately, despite the fixtures...

I think long-term plan is I might get Lloris for DGW22, and then back to budget keepers.

True but premium keeps are overrated big time (deGea the exception), going with Fabianki and RGK was a move that I'm happy with despite my poor season thus far!

Start of the season this was my midfield
    Kdb Willian Fraser iwobi Carroll

    How bad was that selection!

Mine had Salah and Eriksen, so far so good.

But then Fabregas (red card, -1 point, having to take a hit immediately).

And Redmond (who I kept for 6 whole weeks).

he's not out, just has a hammy issue that needs to be managed, right?

Might even be a non-issue, all that was really said is that he felt his hammy and was taken off as a precautionary measure.

surely if hes not fit enough to start then he wont play at all with a hammy issue?

I think we will continue to see Klopp use him every game and rest him when he can. Sounds like the kind of injury he knew about before the game or at half time so he chose to leave him out there to try and win the game first before bringing him off (even though he had options like Coutinho and Firmino he could've brought on sooner). Probably not a strain but a load management issue. I think we will see him benched at some stage and not brought on if the game is won.

Most CS since he started in GW4 nearly most saves and GK in a team with defenders that don't score high bps for pass completion etc like defenders from top teams
